Dear Parents and Community Members…. Camp
The level of excitement was very high as students
patiently waited for the bus to arrive yesterday morning.
At 8am year 5/6 students, Miss Eakin, Mr Maher and Lyn
were on their way to Lake Ainsworth.
They arrived safely and were straight into the
activities planned for the day. We know they will have a
wonderful time and will come home with many stories to
share!
Responsible Pet Ownership
Last Wednesday Gina Pagen came to visit our K-2
students to discuss responsible pet ownership. Gina also
brought her 5 year old dog “Cruze” along. During the visit
she discussed safe ways to approach dogs, warning signs
that they might be an aggressive dog and how to look after
dogs. There is an app that can be downloaded for free
called “Victor and Victoria’s Pet Town”. It helps to
consolidate what was learnt during the visit. Alternatively
further information can be found at: http://www.pets.nsw.gov.au/

Contact and Family Details
It is extremely important if you change your mobile
or home phone that you let the school know.
On many occasions lately we have tried to contact
parents when their child is sick at school only to find out
that the numbers we have are no longer working. It is very
important that the school is able to contact parents/
guardians. Also if there is a change in status at home or
the child is no longer living with you then please let the
school know as soon as possible.
Do you have problems with getting your child to school
for some of the following reason?
Won’t get out of bed
Won’t go to bed
Can’t find their clothes, books, homework , school bag…
School lunches not ready
Dawdles over breakfast
Homework not done
Watching television late at night or in the morning when
they should be getting ready for school
Mum planning a day out
Test/ presentation at school
Child or sibling birthday
Child screams and won’t let you go
Here are some suggestions which are based on ‘setting
regular routines’
Have a set time to be out of bed
Have a set time to go to bed
Have uniform and school bag ready the night before
Make lunches the night before
Have a set time for starting/ending breakfast. A routine is
important.
Set time for daily homework activities
Turn the television on for a set time only if appropriate
Be firm, children must go to school
Provide lots of positive encouragement
Be firm, a birthday is not a holiday
Time arrival at school to coincide with bell time and leave
quickly. If arranged with the teacher beforehand, place
your child’s hand into that of a teacher and then leave.

Crunch and Sip It has been wonderful to witness the
beautiful, colourful and fresh fruit and
vegetables students have been consuming during
the two week Fruit and Vegie Challenge not only
during Crunch and Sip, but also at recess and
lunch. Sadly, once these challenges end, we
often see students returning to old habits of
LCM or muesli bars, lots of biscuits and chips.
Students have shown they LOVE these
healthy, colourful and fresh foods and summer
is the best time to continue to encourage and
support this healthy eating due to the amazing
fruit available such as stone fruits (plums,
nectarines, peaches), melons (rock melon,
watermelon, honey dew), berries (strawberries,
blueberries), grapes and cherries. The fruits
can be eaten whole or put in small containers.
This season is also great to make a fruit
salad, have salad for lunch either on a sandwich
or in a tub. Try to keep up the great work of
EATING THE COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW!
Quick, easy, cheap and most importantly MUCH
better for the body and mind.
FRUIT and Vegie Challenge – Congratulations
to all the students who challenged themselves
to eat the recommended servings of fruit and
vegetables a day (2 and 5) and to those who
tried new foods. The challenge doesn’t end now.
You now should try to make these changes as
part of your everyday life.
