Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 6:7-13

“Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them”. We all want to be loved and affirmed, or at least to be like and accepted. We definitely do not want to be ignored and rejected. We will sometimes rationalize reality or live a lie to get what we want. That can lead to self-deception and co-dependency in our relationship with others, and inordinate attachment to things. Jesus knew he was sending his disciples to preach the Good News to people who would criticize, ridicule, reject and attack them because the Good News made people aware of their need to change. Jesus knew that our human nature resist change and rejects the person who call us to change. He cautioned his disciples not to diminish the truth or soften the Good News in order to be liked and accepted by those who refused to change. He taught them that it was better not to be loved, than to be loved for the wrong reason. The Good News calls us to change; to love Jesus for the right reason; to be loved for the right reason. How do we treat the person who brings us the Good News and calls us to change?

The Lord’s Day is the Church’s preferred time to celebrate

infant baptism, especially at Mass, but the sacrament may

be celebrated at other times. Preparation for new parents

or those new to the parish is held by appointment.

Visits to the Sick/Homebound: If you are sick or

homebound or know someone who needs Holy

Communion please contact the parish office. We will

arrange for someone to bring you communion.

Eucharistic Adoration: is the First Friday of every

month at St. Anthony Church from 9:30am- 6:00pm.

Please come and spend some time in prayer and

reflection during this time of adoration. The adoration

Pope Francis declares a new World Day for

Grandparents and Elderly on July 25th:

Pope Francis has recently declared this July 25th to

be the first annual World Day for Grandparents and

the Elderly and has asked every diocese to promote

its celebration in each parish community.

We thank God for the gift of our Grandparents and

Elderly among us, as well as, their wisdom and love

they share with us in our lives.

All Masses the weekend of July 24th and 25th will be

offered especially for our grandparents and elderly

in thanksgiving to God for them, as well as, God’s

continued blessings and graces they may need.

weekend of July 24th and 25th.

Final Blessing and Dismissal of Mass The Concluding Rites with the Dismissal prepare us for mission: empowered by the Holy Spirit, we live out our baptismal consecration in the world. Renewed by the Eucharist, we are sent back into our daily lives to transform our communities and world.

Pope John Paul II writes that the Prayer after Communion, Final Blessing, and Dismissal should lead “all who have shared in the Eucharist” to “a deeper sense of the responsibility which is entrusted to them.” Returning to their daily lives, Christ’s disciples are called to “make their whole life a gift, a spiritual sacrifice pleasing to God (cf. Rom 12:1). They feel indebted to their brothers and sisters because of what they have received in the celebration” (Dies Domini, no. 45).

The Good News we have received should overflow into our lives and move us to mission in the world. Thus, the Concluding Rites are not an end but a beginning, calling us to make our entire lives “Eucharistic,” so that “the Christian who takes part in the Eucharist learns to become a promoter of communion, peace and solidarity in every situation” (Pope John Paul II, Mane Nobiscum Domine [Stay with Us, Lord], no. 27). If we leave Mass before the dismissal, we miss out on celebrating and being taught why we celebrate the Eucharist in the first place. We are fed and strengthened on the body and blood of Christ not only for ourselves but also for all those he gave his life for. We are dismissed from Mass not because it’s over, but because we have work to do. We are to go to the world to proclaim Christ. And so we stay to the end of Mass to be blessed and commissioned: “Go and announce the gospel of the Lord.” “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.” From USCCB & U.S. Catholic
