2. StartupEurope.eu

• An EU initiative to:- Raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges faced by web-

entrepreneurs 1. - Network, Europe–wide, among the stakeholders and facilitate

access to resources2. - Develop web talentFinal goal:• - To strengthen the environment for Web Entrepreneurs to start and

stay in Europe. The focus is on starting up and scaling up.

The €10 million funding will be allocated to:- Projects to accelerate web entrepreneurship in Europe by using new cross-border services co-developed by several local web entrepreneurship ecosystems and hubs working together. - Coordination activities to strengthen the environment for web entrepreneurship in Europe and that exploit synergies across stakeholder communities.

What are we looking for? a. Accelerate web entrepreneurship in Europe:

Proposals to develop and provide new services for web entrepreneurs, building upon existing local ecosystems or hubs working together:-- to launch and scale up new ventures-- to link web entrepreneurs with mentors across Europe-- to create exposure to new financing opportunities-- to link acceleration programmes across Europe.

•Budget: €6 Million

•Examples (non-comprehensive list) :

• provide online tools (training, legal) that support web entrepreneurs to start a new venture and scale across borders

• prizes for innovative web and mobile services and applications • putting geeks from one local ecosystem in residence within

accelerators and startups of another local ecosystem• meet-ups of stakeholders of the local ecosystems, Internships across

local ecosystems or travel grants• …

What are we looking for?

b. Coordination activities in the area of web entrepreneurs Activities to strengthen the environment for web entrepreneurship in Europe and that exploit synergies across stakeholder communities.

Includes support to European initiatives: impact on Startup Europe objectives, such as encouraging entrepreneurship, facilitating access to resources, increasing availability of web talent, thought leadership and the other areas listed in the startup manifesto.

Budget: €4 Million

•Proposals may include features such as:• networking all relevant stakeholders groups; • supporting European initiatives on web

entrepreneurship, in particular to support Startup Europe implementation (see startupeurope.eu)

• encouraging people, notably young people and women, to become web entrepreneurs;

• supporting awards to celebrate web entrepreneurship;

• promoting the use of MOOCs for web entrepreneurship skills

4. Expected overall impact

Real expected impact on the web entrepreneurship ecosystem is of extraordinary importance for this objective, in concrete:•To provide new, innovative environments including services that will help web entrepreneurs in their process of starting up and scaling up their startups.•To support the emergence of dynamic European ecosystems for web entrepreneurs that also contribute to shaping future web entrepreneurship specific policies, in particular for the implementation of Startup Europe EU initiative. (see, for ex. the Startup Manifesto for a list of 22 concrete actions at www.startupmanifesto.eu) •To contribute, together with other relevant initiatives of the Commission, to a positive impact across the continuum of actors for entrepreneurship.
