DAFT Workshop 12.30-14.00 June 5 th 2015 Working systemically as an Independent Practitioner: A contradiction in terms? Facilitator Ruth Beck I am a BACP accredited Humanistic Psychotherapist and a UKCP Registered Independent Practitioner. This workshop will explore some of the trials and joys of independent practice from a systemic perspective. In order to work systemically we usually consider it necessary to be part of an organisation. In 2012 I stopped working for CAMHS to take up some family duties and set up in private practice. This workshop will explore some of the freedoms, but also the challenges facing an independent therapist wishing to maintain a systemic perspective in work with individuals as well as with families including: If a parent seeks counseling or help for a young person who is the client? How might the work differ from that of a therapist working in an organisation?

Working systemically as an Independent Practitioner: A contradiction in terms?

Facilitator Ruth BeckI am a BACP accredited Humanistic Psychotherapist and a UKCP Registered Independent Practitioner. This workshop will explore some of the trials and joys of independent practice from a systemic perspective. In order to work systemically we usually consider it necessary to be part of an organisation. In 2012 I stopped working for CAMHS to take up some family duties and set up in private practice. This workshop will explore some of the freedoms, but also the challenges facing an independent therapist wishing to maintain a systemic perspective in work with individuals as well as with families including:

If a parent seeks counseling or help for a young person who is the client? How might the work differ from that of a therapist working in an organisation?

Using vignettes and case study we will explore some of the potential issues and dilemmas. As in all DAFT workshops there are perhaps no simple answers and everyone’s contributions, ideas and experiences will be welcomed.

This workshop is free and both parents/carers and professionals are welcome. PPD Certificates are awarded. Come along with your lunch if you want to. No need to book. If you would like to keep up to date with DAFT news including the latest on presentations and conferences see:

The DAFT Committee meets after the Presentations from 2.00-3.00pm and we welcome new members who can offer time to plan and plot future events.
