How can my child become a better writer? Keep a writing journal at home and have your child write daily. Here are some ideas for writing prompts: http://www.writingprompts.net/1st-grade/ If your child misspells an important word while writing, make a flashcard for it (word and picture) and keep it in a recipe box. The words can be collected and alphabetized to reference later when the words are needed again.

A spelling test should have no misspelled spelling words, no capital letters in the word (unless capitalized for proper noun), and no backwards letters. Be sure to practice at home!

Assessments Coming Up:Friday, October 28: Phonics/SpellingFriday, October 28: Math: Weekly word problem-solving test.
