Assignment Three Group Members: Anastazja Galczak Mariam Kirkitadze Chriswin Roach Chloe Castaldi The Proposal Our goal is to spread awareness about sexual violence in colleges, that it is something that people should be aware of and to encourage victims to speak out even if they don't believe that they will be supported. What we plan do to is not only use the Internet but also promote our cause ourselves at our own university, Hunter College. Our campaign message is Voice Over Violence, which represents how people shouldn't be afraid to speak up but also should try to prevent and fight sexual violence. We created a hashtag, #voiceoverviolence and a selfie in which people can draw a volume up sign on their hand and put it over their mouth or just draw the volume up sign wherever they please in their picture. It's a symbol of speaking up and out, of using your voice. We will use this campaign message on social media as well as when we launch our campaign at Hunter. April is sexual violence awareness month and the color for sexual violence awareness is teal so when we commence our campaign at hunter we will wear teal and hand out teal colored balloons with the volume up signs and hashtag written on them. The ProposalOur goal is to spread awareness about sexual violence in colleges, that it is

Documentation

We got a total of 58 likes on our Facebook page, which presents pictures from our campaign and people participating spreading awareness of #voiceoverviolence . It was really fun to talk to so many people about sex violence that happen every on college campuses. As well as educate people about what to do in a case of an incident like this.

A survey we asked every to take in exchange for our lovely teal balloons.

Throughout our survey while spreading our #VoiceOverViolence balloons we realized that out of the 40 people, 40 thought that a rapist or anyone who committed assault should persecuted. We also found that 32% of students actually knew someone who has been raped. And 27% didn’t know what to do in case they witnessed it or it happened to them.

What to do in case of an assault:• Immediately report it to the Department of Public Safety (212-772-4444) who

will notify the local Police Department and the Vice President of Student Affairs.

• Get a medical examination at the hospital or at your private doctor right away. Note: Before seeing the doctor, the victim should not douche, bathe, shower, or change clothes, as this would destroy valuable evidence.

• Students should inform the doctor of the act committed upon them. The doctor should take semen smears and note any injuries.

• The victim should inform the police of all details and give police any clothing stained or torn during the attack.Contact the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs with regard to a

change in the academic situation after an alleged sex offense.

The proper statistics are really difficult to find on sexual assault cases. The reason for that is because there’s a lot of pressure on college to uphold their image, and scandals are not what they need. In most cases the investigations are not done properly and males who commit such crimes cannot be persecuted. In some cases the college will protect the scholarship athlete rather than just another girl. Today’s world should really think about our priorities, because turning your back from someone in need because of money is what always happens; and we can do better.
