Foundation Newsletter Term 3 Welcome Back It was so pleasing to hear about stories of family holidays and special outings over the term break. You may notice that our classrooms look different this term. Over the holidays our classrooms received a fresh coat of paint and the layout of our rooms has changed. Because of the new paint, over the next couple of weeks students will be keeping their bags on the back of their chairs instead of outside the classroom. We will let you know when this changes. Semester 1 reports are now available on COMPASS. Please see Mrs Williams, Tom or Wendy at the office if you need help with login details. This term we are starting Inquiry. This unit is focussed on questions that students asked about healthy bodies, such as ‘what do I need to eat to be healthy?’ and ‘why is exercise good for you?’. As part of this unit, we are organising an excursion to Brimbank Bicycle Education Centre. Communication with Teachers Classroom teachers attend meetings after school each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We are available for a quick chat before school from 8:40 until learning time commences at 8:50, when students enter their classroom. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting outside of these times as we are more than willing to discuss any issues or concerns. Learning Focus for Term 3. In Reading, we will continue to learn how to solve words using clues such as the first letter, the size of the word, the shape of the word as well as any pictures that may help. We will continue to focus on making predictions and inferring how the characters in a book are feeling to help comprehend the texts we read. We are continuing our Writing in Term 3 by writing about ideas that students want to write about. We will continue our work on learning the sounds that letters make and using the letters we know as well as words we know when writing. We are also learning about how to draw a detailed picture that can tell a story. We have begun Term 3 learning about Place Value in Mathematics.
