Our next adventure is to revisit Princess Louisa and Chatterbox Falls. To do this we will be traveling from Egmont up a very long fjord to Malibu rapids. At the narrowest point of the rapids it is approx 100 feet and at full current the water can be around 10 to 12 knots. Obviously it is very important to do your calculations and judge your time correctly; you don’t want to do the rapids unless it is slack water. The chart, even if you can’t see much detail is an idea of what the fjord looks like but the mountains rise on each side for thousands of feet and is very densely covered with pine and some madrona trees. The pictures with what appears to be snow are ice and the source of the many falls and the one famous Chatterbox. The fall is beautiful and loud. The amount of water rolling out of the mountains above is huge and produces an amazing amount of spray…it creates its own ego system. The trees around the falls are covered with fern and moss; it looks as though someone has lovingly covered all of the branches with green velvet. Well, I guess He did.

I really wanted to come around the corner and find Discovery waiting for us but Jack and Sheri weren’t there. Jack for those of you who don’t know left us this spring and he love to travel in British Columbia with family and friends on his boat.

We stayed at the dock at Chatterbox Falls which is a long dock with no facilities but lots of fun people. Upon arrival everyone moves their boats up or back to make room for the newcomers and often people will take boats along side. We even took a “stink pot” alongside to show what open minded sailors we are. They were from Wyoming. It truly does take a village.

Before leaving the falls we motored down the fjord a little ways and took a buoy to be closer to the rapids for a very early slack water. We took a sailboat alongside and discovered the couple was from Issaquah, small world.

Our early up to make slack water brought us back to Egmont and we stayed an extra day because of high wind warning. Tony and I took a walk to the general store, only 10 minutes the young man said. Ten minutes my foot, it was 45 minutes on a winding hilly road, we hitch hiked home and got a ride right off…good thing too. We found two available boats and are hoping the Cushmans will partner with us! Oh, and a pickup to go with it!

Our next stop will be Westview/Campbell River where there is a large grocery store. We’ll be provisioning there for the long haul. Pretty soon we’ll have a clean boat, clean bodies, clean clothes and lots of groceries….life is good.

I’ve been told 2 or 3 times what plant this is and can’t remember, of course. But look how BIG!!!!!
