I researched how realistic it would be to shoot this performance for my indoor event for this unit and found that the probability was not very high. This was due to the fact that it would cost a minimum of £14.40 to get into the event and this would only be for a seat that is very far away from the stage and so the quality of my photographs would not be very good. Another option would be to contact the arena and ask for a photo pass, the event is relatively close and so I didn’t think it was possible to achieve this and so I decided that I would choose another event instead that was more realistic. Where: Liverpool Echo Arena

This band is performing at the Liverpool Echo Arena on the 5th May.

How would you expect to set up your camera?

The lighting within the Echo Arena is very low, with the only lights being from the stage and so I would have to use a high ISO. The band will be moving around the stage and so I would have to use a fast shutter speed to capture the motion. An F stop at around F4 would be my ideal aperture as it is wide enough to capture the subjects.

Considerations:

White Balance- I would use the automatic White Balance on my camera for my test shots and then alter it to a pre-set setting if the colours within my image are not right.

Health and Safety-

Things that could go wrong. PreventionsEquipment could be damaged getting to and from the event.

I will make sure to carry all of my kit within a camera bag to reduce the risk of anything becoming damaging.

The Echo Arena is located by a main, busy road and so I could get injured getting to and from the event.

I will make sure to cross at designated crossings to reduce the risk of getting injured by any cars.

Equipment could be stolen. The equipment that I am going to bring to this event is quite expensive and so I will make sure to carry it in a camera bag so that I can keep an eye on it and also only take it out when necessary. (Only at the concert, not on public transport etc).

Point of View- Typically, when shooting for the Echo Arena, a photographer is not located close to the stage. They are usually located by the sound engineers and this is quite a distance away and so equipment such as a long lens would be necessary. Where the photographer is usually positioned is not blocking anyone’s view and so they will be able to move around freely within the small allocated space.

Access?-

Without the permission of the staff, I am unable to take photographs at this event with my DSLR. The only way that I would be able to shoot this event would be to get a photo pass from the Echo Arena and this is not very possible for me as I do not know anyone within the Echo Arena to contact. There is an email that I can contact on the website but I am unsure as to whether I will be able to get a response quick enough to attend this gig and so I would have to choose another event to shoot for this unit.

What: Titanic and Liverpool: Exhibition

When: 30 Mar 2012 - 31 Dec 2017

Where: Merseyside Maritime Museum

Another indoor event that is happening before the submission date in Liverpool is the Titanic and Liverpool exhibition. Here, I will be able to take photographs of the exhibition and the people that attend it. I feel like shooting an exhibition would be a good idea as it is something that I have never done before, however, I may not be able to take photographs within the building as this is a common practice within some museums and galleries. If this is the case then I will need to look for another event to shoot for this unit. This event is free but I don’t feel as though the photographs that I will get from it will be to a high enough standard and so I have decided that it would be more suitable to choose another event. However, this may be a good idea for a backup plan if my main idea does not work out.

How would you expect to set up your camera?

Unlike the gig at the Echo Arena, I would be in more control of the lighting for this exhibition. This is due to the fact that the lights within the Maritime Museum do not have dim lights. I believe that an

ISO of about 400 would be ideal for this event as this is the average setting for average light. I can afford to take my photographs with either a fast or a slow shutter speed as there is not going to be any movement that I need to photograph.

Considerations:

White Balance- I would use the automatic White Balance on my camera for my test shots and then alter it to a pre-set setting if the colours within my image are not right.

Things that could go wrong PreventionsEquipment could be damaged getting to and from the event.

I will make sure to carry all of my kit within a camera bag to reduce the risk of anything becoming damaging.

The Maritime Museum is located by a main, busy road and so I could get injured getting to and from the event.

Point Of View- Unlike the gig, I would be able to move freely around the exhibition and so therefore my vantage point would not be restricted.

Access?- I would not need to get photo pass for this event as, like previously stated, my access is not restricted and so I would not need a pass to get into specific areas of the exhibition. By being able to take photographs without a photo pass it means that the probability of me turning up to this event is more than likely. I have already planned what I am going to shoot for the indoor event for this unit and so this exhibition would be a perfect back up plan.

What: Abandoned Asylum and Orphanage Ghost Hunt

When: Friday 5th May 2017 9:30pm- 3:30am.

Where: Newsham Park

An event that I would be interested to shoot would be the ghost hunt that is happening at Newsham Park on the 5th May. While I would find this shoot intriguing to shoot, I think the actual chance of me shooting it would be pretty low for a couple of reasons:

Lighting- The event is going to be late and night and so the lighting will not be worth shooting in without a flash. I don’t think that the people running the event will be happy with me going through the tour with my flash on as it would affect the other people that are attending this event.

Price- The cost to attend this event is £54 and so it would be too much money for me to pay. The event is also sold out now and so it would be unrealistic for me to say that I will shoot this event.

How would you expect to set up your camera?

This event starts at 9:30pm and so the location will be very dark, therefore I would need to alter my ISO to between 800-3200. As stated before, it will more than likely be frowned upon for me to use a flash at this event and so I would have to rely on a high ISO. Due to the fact that this event is a tour, I will be walking around; this means that I would have to change my shutter speed so that it is fast. I will then be able to capture photographs in motion. My aperture would have to be about F10-22 so that I can achieve a well exposed photograph.

Considerations:

White Balance- I would use the automatic White Balance on my camera for my test shots and then alter it to a pre-set setting if the colours within my image are not right.

Health and Safety-

Things that could go wrong. PreventionsThe event will be quite late and will be located in an abandoned house.

It would therefore be important to go with someone and not alone.

Equipment could be damaged/stolen going to and from the event.

To prevent my equipment from being damaged or stolen I would have to make sure that I kept all my kit in my camera bag. The cushioned interior would protect it from damage and all of the kit would then be in one place so that it would be easier to keep an eye on.

Points of View- I have not been to this type of event before and so I am unsure as to whether I am actually permitted to take photographs if I go. I will be walking around the building and so there would be no restriction, if I can, in taking my photographs.

Access?- The cost of this event is £54 per ticket and I know no one that could reduce the cost of this and so the chances of me actually attending this event is unlikely.

What: “Bry” Gig

Where: Arts Club

This is the event that I have decided to shoot for the indoor event of this unit. “Bry” is an artist that I am genuinely interested in and so I would enjoy doing this event. The Arts Club is a small and personal venue and so I will be able to get good shots of the performer and also some of the audience.

How would you expect to set up your camera?

I would expect to use quite a high ISO for this event (800 and above) as it is quite dark within the Arts Club with the only lights coming from the stage. Due to the fact that this is a gig, I would expect the performer to move around the stage and so I would use a fast shutter speed so that I am able to capture him in motion. (i.e. playing guitar and moving around the stage.)

Considerations:

White Balance- I would use the automatic White Balance on my camera for my test shots and then alter it to a pre-set setting if the colours within my image are not right.

Health and Safety-

Things that could go wrong Preventions.Equipment could be damaged/stolen going to and from the event.

To prevent my equipment from being damaged or stolen I would have to make sure that I kept all my kit in my camera bag. The cushioned interior would protect it from damage and all of the kit would then be in one place so that it would be easier to keep an eye on.

The Arts Club is located by a main, busy road and so I could get injured getting to and from the event.

I will make sure to cross at designated crossings to reduce the risk of getting injured by any cars.

Point of View- As stated before, the Arts Club is quite a small venue and so I believe that with my lenses I would be able to get good photographs. I also have access to the “pit” so that I can achieve photographs with a different aesthetic.

Access - My tutor has been able to get me a photo pass for this event and so I would not have to go about getting one myself. By having a photo pass this will give me access to the “pit” and would therefore allow me to get photographs at a different vantage point. Due to the fact that I have a photo pass for this event it means that I get to attend this gig for free, with all of the factors that I have mentioned it means that this gig is the most suitable event and so this is why I chose this event as my final one and not any of the other events.
