What is the USA triathlon?USA Triathlon is bringing the nation's most competitive triathlons to Cleveland, Ohio, the "Rock 'n Roll Capital of the World!" The Olympic-Distance Age Group National Championship will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11 while the Sprint National Championship will occur on Sunday, Aug, 12. Athletes will swim in Lake Erie and bike and run along the lake shore overlooking downtown Cleveland. Participants of both races have the chance to compete for Age Group National Titles as well as spots on Team USA in 2019.

Volunteer DescriptionsAirport Greeter – This role is extremely important as the first “face” of Cleveland once meeting attendees land at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. You will make attendees feel welcome and excited for their experience in Cleveland by greeting them as they make their way to baggage claim. You’ll also be on hand to answer any questions about Cleveland, their meeting or travel logistics.

ApparelAll volunteers will wear the “Ask Me About Cleveland” shirts, your choice of pants – nice jeans, black pants, whatever you prefer, and comfortable shoes. If you do not have a volunteer shirt already, you will be able to get one upon check-in.

ParkingCLE Smart Parking Garage – Please park for FREE in the CLE Smart Parking Garage – seen in green on the map. It is the only garage with attendants as you exit and is connected to the airport. As you leave the garage, let the staff at the gate know your name and that you are volunteering with Destination Cleveland, and they will let you out for free.

Second parking location if necessary – If the CLE Smart Parking Garage is 100% full, then park in the CLE Brown Lot – noted as brown on the map above. There is a free shuttle service that goes back and forth from the airport – every 15 min. There is no attendant, so in this case you do need to pay on-site. It will be $9 a day, however, if the ticket is kept, and emailed to Chelsea, it can be reimbursed. *There is an ability to live check on line the availability in the CLE Smart Parking Garage. So, that day I will monitor and send an email about an hour before each shift to update if the Brown Lot needs to be utilized.

FAQ – Pricing for Transportation: Ride-share (Uber, Lyft) price?

The cost of ride share varies and depends if the company is surging but usually a ride downtown is $25-$35.

FAQ – Pricing for Transportation: Taxi price?

The cost of a taxi to downtown area is posted on a bulletin board by their window, is usually $36-$45.

Rapid price? The cost of the Rapid is $2.50, the ride takes about 20 minutes and the trains run about every 15-20 minutes.  Make sure to give a schedule and tell them where to get off the train (Tower City/Public Square).  

FAQ – Shuttles: There is a shuttle that travelers must take to get to all rental car

companies.   There are no shuttles to the downtown hotels, unless the traveler has

made prior arrangements with the hotel.  The options for those looking for transportation are:  taxi, ride-share, train or limo service (the limo service people are always available near the Gold Coats desk).

There are shuttles to the local hotels and long-term parking places  

Last Notes: Visitors typically get their luggage first and ask questions second.

Visitors staring at their phones and walking between the Gold Coat desk and door 5 are usually looking for ride-share and don't realize you must leave the building to get to it.  Don't be afraid to ask them if they need help, they usually do.

If you don't know an answer to a question refer the visitor to the Gold Coats (walk them to the Gold Coat desk).

Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS for volunteeringWhen I arrive, what do I do? Where do I go?Upon arrival, please go right to the volunteer check-in area. Once checked in, you will be instructed exactly where to go and can have any questions answered. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes before scheduled shift time. Review the check-in page for the specific check-in location and check-in information.What if I cannot make my shift?Things happen, and we understand if you cannot make your shift. Please send an email: ckertes@destinationcle.org, or call: 216-875-6651, at least 24 hours before your schedule shift so we can find someone to take over that position.Will I get a break?There will not be a specified time for a break, however, if you need to use the restroom or take a minute break you are able too. Please just alert a staff member or volunteer to ensure there is someone there to cover you during that time.Will there be food available?There will not be snacks or food available during this opportunity. However, you are welcome to bring your own food and store in the volunteer room or even or little coolers. Water will be provided.
