SAFE: - pupils, staff and families all need to feel safe:
1. Physical Safety2. Emotional Safety
Clear | Simple | Consistent | Memorable RULESEveryone needs to understand why the rules exist and why they are important – children need to be PRAISED when they follow the rules and SUPPORTED if they don’t!
Children like rules and predictability – they make them feel SAFE! Provide a HOOK to help them remember!
Get families on board with the rules! They need to feel confident that their children are going to be safe.
Can we work together with children to develop the rules and how they might work?
Adults need to role model the rulesWhen we are safe – we make better decisions and we can follow the rules.
Our Glitter Mind is settled!
WELCOMING: Create an environment which follows the rules AND keeps everyone safe and is warm and welcoming.
How do you show you care and nurture without using touch?
Everyone needs to feel that they BELONG – you are genuinely delighted that they are back at school
ALL TOGETHER: for the child
Regardless of role or job title we all need to work to make that child feel included and create a framework of support
S.W.A.N.
Top Priority
Enable families to have a genuine voice in what is happening for their childBreak down professional and personal barriers to ensure that we are there to fully support the child
No ONE person has all the answers! But we can all askQUESTIONS
about the best way to support that child!
Use some of your targeted responses for your most vulnerable children as a universal measure for every child
NURTURING: children and adults
Everyone is on a state of high alert and anxiety
[ FIGHT | FLIGHT | FREEZE ]
Our brains are not primed for LEARNING!
We will have forgotten about: how to learn how to be around other people.
Readiness for learning needs to be carefully CREATEDthis has been a long period of transition (like a summer holiday which has lasted for 3 – 4 months)
ALL RELATIONSHIPS ARE KEY! EVERY POSITIVE INTERACTION
WILL HELP CHILDREN THRIVE AND FLOURISH
Nurture and Create an environment to have fun! – to laugh together - to relax – to teach our brain that school is a safe place – THEN learning can begin!
YOU are laying the foundations for future learningBe forgiving of yourself if your children do not make expected progress!
