Alan Barnes is a prolific international performer, composer, arranger, bandleader and touring soloist.  He is best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax, where he combines a formidable virtuosity with a musical expression and collaborative spirit that have few peers.  His range and brilliance have made him a “first call” for studio and live work since his precocious arrival on the scene more than thirty years ago.

He broadcast regularly over a ten-year period with the BBC Big Band and Radio Orchestra and has toured and recorded with big band leaders, Dick Walter, Kenny Baker, Bob Wilber, Don Weller, Stan Tracey, Mike Westbrook and John Dankworth

Li hails from Tiger Bay and is well known for her dynamic and unique interpretations of songs in many genres including jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, gospel and Latin styles by artists such as Etta James, Billy Holiday and Amy Winehouse.

Li and the Band will be playing a special programme paying tribute to the great black lady singers of jazz, blues, soul, gospel, rhythm and blues; including Dinah Washington, Ruth Brown, Dakota Staton, Big Mama Thorton, Wynona Carr, Sister Rossetta Tharpe and of course our very own Shirley Bassey.

Gary Phillips is one of Wales most versatile Guitarist, leader of the Amigos Gypsy Orchestra. Gary plays styles from Flamaeco/Cuban to Jazz/Blues and Funk.

SUNDAY June 9

12pm Constellation Big Band

Constellation Big Band was formed circa 1973 and was originally known as ‘Joe Berni Dance Band Neath’ The band originally consisted of musicians who played in bands during the 1939-45 war years and post-war years, who came together to once again enjoy the pleasures of playing music that they loved. The band recreates the sounds of the Big Band era with music from

Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton and many more. We also pride ourselves in having a vast array of music to accommodate all genres of musical taste and style

1.45pm Sarah Meek/Guy Shotton Quartet

Cardiff based jazz vocalist Sarah Meek hails from Cheshire, a graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama has performed for various venues around the UK and abroad.

3.30pm Guardalavaca De CubaHot Brass and Percussion to round of the afternoon with Cuban, South American, Latin and Samba. Dance away the last excesses of the weekend with this fabulous South Wales based 8 piece band.
