GENERAL GUIDING NOTES BEFORE FILLING THE APPLICATION FORM

Please read these notes carefully before filling your application. They contain critical information about how to fill and submit your application.

a) Who should apply?

Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) under Skills Development Facility (SDF) provides non-repayable funding to companies that are active in the agribusiness, construction and manufacturing sectors in Uganda. This particular form is for Internship programme of the SDF support and targets companies willing to take on Interns from vocational training institutions. Therefore only apply with this form if:

1. company has been in existence for at least 2 years, and2. is active in either Agriculture or Construction or Manufacturing sectors in Uganda, and 3. is intending to take on interns from training institutions.

If you are not part of the categories above and you would like to receive skills development support from PSFU-SDF project you should use the other application forms for other windows, which can be downloaded by clicking here or found on www.psfuganda.org.ug

b) What are eligible activities?

SDF will provide subsidies to private companies willing to take on interns to provide complementary short-term practical training. The SDF can support internship with the duration of up to 6 months.

An intern is here defined as a temporary position with an emphasis on-the-job training rather than merely employment, and it can be paid or unpaid. The target group for this initiative is youth undergoing training at an education institution such as vocational institutes, technical colleges or polytechnics. Also, youth participating in non-formal vocational training programs do qualify. Students and degree holders from higher education institutions are not eligible for support. It is the responsibility of the company taking on the interns to ensure that these are properly supervised and have an opportunity to obtain the intended practice experience. Abuse of the interns as cheap labor will result in immediate suspension of the support. The SDF will compensate up to 100 percent of documented expenses related to the cost of transportation and feeding of the intern, learning and demonstration material, and insurance of the intern. The SDF will not pay for the cost of equipment and machinery. The stipend for each intern cannot exceed USD 200 per month (includes insurance). However, For companies that having been having internship programme before and are intending to increase on the intake, the additional number of interns will be supported and the company's current rates of payments will adopted.

Applications for supporting interns will not follow the usual call for proposals sequence, and will be subject to the SDF fast-track approval procedure.

c) How to apply?

You apply by going through the following steps (Note that SDF Team will carefully scrutinise your application, and will cross check all the information and documents that you have provided):

1. Fill this application form; make sure that all the boxes in the form are filled, and that the information therein is correct.

2. Collect the required supporting documentation, as indicated in the form and in the checklist, and attach them to the application.

3. After completing the form, remember to sign 4. Deliver the application form to the PSFU office; Plot 43 Nakasero Road or agreed drop centers.

Clearly indicate on the envelope "SDF Grant application - Internship Programme" in the right hand corner.

5. Receive and keep the acknowledgement form from SDF - PSFU. Keep this until you receive a formal reply from PSFU.

d) How will my application be appraised?Your application will go through the following appraisal steps:

1. Administrative checkIs the application form fully filled, and all the mandatory documents attached (refer to checklist table 1)? If not, the application may be rejected. If yes, the appraisal goes to step 2.

3. Contract signingIf your application is approved for support, you will sign a Letter of Agreement with SDF-PSFU and a contract with your service provider. In most cases, the grant will be paid to the service provider directly.
