Nursery Page 1 Nursery Home Learning Grid Week 7 week beginning 1 st June 2020 Mon 1 st June: Understanding the World including Maths and Literacy (INSET day so optional) Activity : Create some bubble painting. Use two tablespoons of bubble solution/washing up liquid and two tablespoons of paint and add into a cup. Dip in a straw or bubble wand into the bubble paint and blow onto the paper. Choose someone special to send the picture to in the post. Maths Activity: Have a bag and fill it with different items e.g. soft toys, paper, a few tins from the cupboard. Ask your child to lift it up and get them to use the words heavy or light. Model how to compare the different weights e.g. The bag of soft toys is much lighter than the bag of tins. Literacy Activity: Focus on rhyme. Sing favourite Nursery rhymes together. Focus on Humpty Dumpty and sing a few times together. Once memorised, sing the first part of the line and pause so your child has to sing the last word. Cut out the pictures on the attached sheet and stick in the correct place on the Humpty Dumpty rhyme. Extension; Boil and egg and ask you child to draw a face and clothes as if he was Humpty Dumpty and re-enact the song. Tuesday 2 nd June: Expressive Art and Design including Maths and Literacy Activity: Sit outside in a garden quietly for 5 mins. Talk about or draw different creatures that you saw, e.g. robin, butterfly, worm, beetle. Talk about what they looked like and how they moved. Which did you see the most/least of? Maths Activity: Can you set up your own weighing scales? Enjoy playing with it seeing what happens when more or less objects are in the buckets. Talk about the words heavy, light, heavier, lighter etc. Challenge your child to make the scales balance. Literacy Activity: Sing Heads, shoulders, knees and toes. Repeat and each time whisper the next body part and sing the rest of the song. Sing it at different speeds or using different voices. Is your child able to point to each body part? Make up your own version using different body parts e.g. chin, eyebrows, thighs and feet! Wednesday 3 rd June: Personal, Social and Emotional Development including Maths and Literacy Activity: Paint your own rainbow as big as you can to fill the paper. Once it is dry, what different objects can you find inside our house or outside in the garden that match the same colour? Are there any colour that are more difficult to find? Thursday 4 th June: Communication and Language including Maths and Literacy Activity: Go on a walk and collect some dandelion flowers to make dandelion honey,. You will need approx. 150 g of dandelion petals, washed, 1 litre of water, a lemon and 1 kg of sugar. Pick the petals from the flowers and add to the water. Bring to the boil and let it simmer for a short time. Leave it covered, overnight, to stew. Pass

Activity: Paint your own rainbow as big as you can to fill the paper. Once it is dry, what different objects can you find inside our house or outside in the garden that match the same colour? Are there any colour that are more difficult to find?

Maths Activity: explore weight using a natural balance scale. What different objects can you find to measure? How do you know which is the heaviest/lightest? Talk about a seesaw and what happens when someone is heavier than you.

Thursday 4 th June: Communication and Language including Maths and Literacy

Activity: Go on a walk and collect some dandelion flowers to make dandelion honey,. You will need approx. 150 g of dandelion petals, washed, 1 litre of water, a lemon and 1 kg of sugar. Pick the petals from the flowers and add to the water. Bring to the boil and let it simmer for a short time. Leave it covered, overnight, to stew. Pass the liquid through a muslin and add the lemon and sugar. Bring to the boil so it reduces to two thirds or like a hone consistency.

Maths Activity: What is the heaviest animal you can think of? What is the lightest? Is an elephant heavier or lighter than a rhino? Use the internet or books to find out different animal facts linked to their suggestion. Read the Billy Goats Gruff and talk about the different sized animals.

Literacy Activity: Go on a particular letter sound treasure hunt e.g. b. What can you find that starts with the sound ‘b’? Imagine you are playing with a bat and a ball as you say ‘b’ e.g. bat, ball, banana etc. Look at the picture and see what different objects you can see that start with ‘b’.

Literacy Activity: Go on a particular letter sound treasure hunt e.g. f. What can you find that starts with the sound ‘f’? Imagine you are squashing a fish filled with air as you say ‘f’ (remember not to say ‘fuh’ just ‘fffff’ e.g. fish, frog, fit. There is a colouring sheet attached.

Friday 5 th June: Physical Development including Maths and Literacy

Activity: Go on a walk and collect some treasures or use what is available in your home or in your garden. Create pictures using the different objects.

Maths Activity: Using your homemade balance scales or kitchen scales find out what weighs more/less than an apple? Try using different objects to investigate.

Literacy Activity: Go on a particular letter sound treasure hunt e.g. l. What can you find that starts with the sound ‘l’? Imagine you are licking a lollipop as you say ‘l’ (not ‘luh’ but ‘l’ e.g. lemon, lips.
