Last week we learned about weather that happens as part of the precipitation process that feeds our lakes, rivers, and oceans. Today we will learn what pollution is. Pollutions is trash and chemicals that get into the water and can hurt the people plants, and animals that use it. Pollutions happens in oceans and in lakes and rivers. Most of the pollution happens from our trash and from oil or chemical spills.

Book for class (English): https://www.getepic.com/app/read/48431

Music and Movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3iJjUKWrkk&t=60s

Pretend/kitchen Play: Students will pretend to go pick up trash at a beach/lake. Pretend a carpet or sheet/blanket on the floor is a body of water that has been polluted. Place some plastic, paper, and cans on it to pretend it is pollution that you need to help clean up. Help your child practice picking up and sorting the different types of trash.

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: Use Legos or connecting blocks and work on hand eye coordination, having your child push them together and using 2 hands at the same time so that they are holding on what they already built while adding new blocks.

Art: Create a polluted body of water by painting/coloring a river, lake, or ocean then glue small pieces of trach (pieces of plastic bags, paper, bottle tops, pieces of tin foil as pollution).

Science/discovery: Working on sink and float while cleaning trash out of the water. Use different objects such as metal (spoons, forks cans), pieces of plastic bags, and plastic bottles. See which of the trash objects sink and which of the objects float.

water that does not have salt in it. For animals and plants that do not live in the ocean they need fresh water most importantly to drink. Freshwater is found in lakes and rivers on land. But in our school and in our homes, we can easily get fresh water from sinks through pipes by turning on faucets. Pipes are important because they connect our homes and school to bodies of fresh water.
