Our Mission Statement
1. To help women who are
recovering for some form
of domestic violence. We
are either providing them
with a steady stream of
work, paying them a living
wage, helping to provide
the tools and training to
begin a sewing business.
2. To reduce the solid
waste that is going into
our landfills by
repurposing clothing and
textile remnants.
We value making a difference in the
world around us. We make recycled
shopping bags and day bags but our
business is freedom!
Poverty and a lack of options for
women of all ages feed the Mexico
border towns domestic violence
epidemic.
We are a bag manufacturing
business whose purpose is to
provide these women with a way
out of domestic violence. Women
are employed on the basis of their
need for a job, not the skills they
bring to it. They are trained, and
paid a living wage. Best of all they
begin their journey to freedom.
Helping Women One Bag at a Time
All of our bags are made from 100% recycled or repurposed material. This is material that would end up in our landfills. We collect it locally from furniture and clothing manufactures and have these wonderful shopping bags made from them. Our bags are the most eco-friendly bags available because they are made out of scrap textiles, not plastic, they can be cold water-washed and reused for years.
INTERESTING FACTRecently published in Family Circle Magazine
Researchers found large numbers of bacteria in all the recycled bags they tested, and even detected E. Coli in 8% of them.
One laundry cycle would reduce the bacteria by 99.9%.
Since plastic bags cannot be washed cloth bags are safer.
Lieber Designs is a shopping bag company that works to provide a cottage industry for women recovering from domestic violence or are too old to enter the work force in the boarder communities of Mexico. We provide the material to produce shopping bags, pay a living wage, and purchase all the bags produced.
The material is up-cycled scraps or out of production fabric samples, collected from the LA Clothing Mart, LA Furniture Mart, and local furniture and upholstery shops. This material would normally be thrown away.Giving the Gift of Independence and Helping the Environment.
