7. Instant meals, snacks, and treats- purchase some “instant” items and show how to make following the instructions- things to try: brownies, puddings, cakes, oatmeal, or microwave meals8. Show which items are cheaper.- Store brand- Frozen fruits and vegetables over fresh produce- If applicable, look for a bulk section. This usually works well for items like dry beans, lentils, etc. 10.Eggs and milk department- Check the eggs to make sure none are broken- Store brand versus name brand- Explain expiration date.- Emphasize that keeping eggs in the refrigerator is important because not all countries have processed eggs which are required to be in the fridge11.What is healthy? What is not?- There are very many unhealthy choices in the grocery store. Harvard School of Public Health does a great job of describing the essential dietary nutrients you need in a typical meal.- This is important to discuss because some of the foods that taste good and are easy to make can be unhealthy for the refugees if they do not understand the nutrition values.

Having these pre packaged and microwavable options is fine, but they should be consumed in moderation.
