Employed by the Wigan Deanery Trust. Start date: October/November 2019 Purpose of role: To facilitate the effective management of the Wigan Deanery Trust (WDT) finances, working with the WDT trustee responsible for finance. Context: The Wigan Deanery is engaged in a 7-year strategic development project of the Church of England with the key objective of turning around the mission and financial strength of the Deanery of Wigan. As part of this development the 29 parishes of the Deanery will be restructured into 7 parishes within a Team Ministry Benefice. We have established the Wigan Deanery Trust to manage certain functions across the benefice and work with external partners to fund activities aligned with Church Wigan's objectives. What we are looking for: A capable and experienced finance officer to offer themselves in this role to serve Church Wigan. Responsibilities of this role: Undertake banking and accounting for Trust. Deliver monthly management reports for Wigan Deanery Trust. Carry out the financial decisions made by the Trustees, ensuring that appropriate financial systems and controls are used. Ensure that all financial transactions are properly authorised, recorded and in a timely manner. Prepare the annual financial statements for approval by the Trustees. Liaise with the independent examiner as required.

Companies Act and Charity Commission requirements and timescales. Run payroll for the Wigan Deanery Trust. Run payroll bureau for the Parishes. Undertake certain other financial admin activities to assist the Joint Council Treasurer in their duties

e.g. collate budgeting information from each parish during annual budget round. Report to the Core Services Manager. Liaise and communicate with PCC treasurers.

Financial Experience of financial processes and procedures. To be able to assist with the budgeting process for the deanery (a/i)

Accounting and banking experience in a context of an organisation with an annual turnover of up to £500,000. (a)

Financial experience in the voluntary sector (a)

IT Skills Experienced in using Paxton, Sage or similar accounting packages (a)

High level of IT proficiency using Microsoft Office. (a)

Knowledge and Skills

A good and effective communicator (i)

Able to prioritise tasks and manage own performance (a/i)

Excellent personal organisation and administration skills (i)

Experience of working in a Church context.(a/i)
