As many of you are aware, we had to make the difficult yet necessary decision to cancel our annual June Gala due to Covid 19.

This Gala accounts for 20% of our annual operating revenue.

Also due to Covid 19 and the need to close our facility, income from our therapeutic riding and instructor training programs were also dramatically impacted.With the help of our Gala committee we made the decision to pivot to a virtual event in order to recoup some of these financial losses.

Soooooo…thank you for joining us tonight for the 1st High Hopes BIG VIRTUAL BASH (and hopefully last!)

For every $1,500 donor this evening, we can give need-based financial aid to someone who could not otherwise benefit from what we do here at High Hopes.

Through the generosity of our donors, High Hopes already subsidizes over 60% of the real cost of every lesson. But despite thatsome families can’t contribute anything towards their lessons due to the extremely high costs of other essential medical and social needs and yet we know from them and their families, just how much benefit they gain from riding, carriage driving, or participating in unmounted Equine Learning Programs.

Our participants and volunteers come from all walks of life, all areas of the State and beyond, and from many diverse communities. High Hopes has always undertaken significant fundraising to ensure that ability to pay is not a barrier to the amazing benefits of equine therapy.

We’re getting down to it now – what about $500 – who wants to “adopt” a horse for $500.

And folks, if you want to give to a particular horse you can let us know after the event. Just send an email – or add it to the chat here or in Facebook.

Holly – do they actually adopt the horse?

HS No Brian – our participants wouldn’t like that!

Did you know it costs over $7,000 to keep one of our horses for a year. They need hoof care, veterinary care, chiropractic care to keep their backs in good health. Some of our horses have multiple saddles depending on the needs of the rider.

Also, when a horse is donated to High Hopes they have a VERY strict trial period where our staff ensure that they are suitable for the work that they will be doing. It costs over $500 to take each horse through whether or not they turn out to be suitable.

Most importantly we are unusual in that when a horse is donated, we undertake to ensure that when they no longer work in our program, they get the best possible care throughout their retirement. Retirement care for horses doesn’t come cheap, but it’s the least we can do for these amazing animals that are our partners in care.
