Final Piece Script – Since Morocco

SCENE 1

INT. SAM’S HOUSE - DAYTIME

Open with a Morocco landscape pan and peaceful music

Sam:

(Music cuts abruptly) He hasn’t been the same since Morocco

The scene cuts to Mia and Sam in Sam’s kitchen, Mia is sat relaxed at the dining table. Sam is nervously washing up.

Mia:

(Frustrated) Yes Sam we’ve been over this, just end it already

Sam:

I just…I don’t know what to do. I don’t want it to end. It’s just a phase he’s going through, it’s fine

Mia:

A phase? I wouldn’t call being a complete bellend for the past 7 months ‘a phase’

Sam:

He hasn’t been a complete bellend for the pa-

Mia:

(Interrupting) Oh I’m sorry, he was nice in Morocco. So because he treated you right on one holiday 6 months ago, when you had just got together and he probably just wanted to seal the deal, that makes it okay to-

*Aggressive knock on the door* Sam drops a plate.

Mia:

(sarcastic) Brilliant

Door opens and Nick is revealed. Sudden Morocco flashback is initiated. Video clip of Nick playing with Moroccan children.

Nick:

Sam?

The scene cuts back to Nick standing in the door, looking unimpressed.

Nick:

Jesus Christ, you gonna let me in or not? You’ve been acting like a twat a lot recently. What’s wrong with you?

Mia:

(Calling from the other room) Who you calling a twat Nick?

Nick:

Bloody hell Sam, is she ever not having a go at me? Why you got to be friends with such a-

Mia:

(Interrupting – still from the other room) Such a what Nick? Go on

Nick:

(Shouting) Such a bitch

Scene 1 ends.

SCENE 2

EXT. CEPEN PARK, PARK – NIGHTIME

Nick is out with his mates, smoking and drinking. Wearing intimidating clothing and clearly up to no good. Football is being aggressively kicked about. Laughing, swearing etc.

Nick:

Oi, Haz

Harry continues conversation with someone else, has his back to Nick.

Nick:

(Impatiently trying to get his attention) Harry. Harry you twat.

Harry:

Hang on a sec

Nick: (picks up ball and kicks it hard at the back of Harry’s head) Don’t tell me to fucking hang on. I’m talking to you.

Nick approaches Harry aggressively. The rest of the boys stop, some look excited, some look concerned.

Harry:

Leave it out Nick man, I was just having a conver-

Nick:

(Grabs Harry, pulling his face close to his) You wanna act big man Harry? Is that it?

Harry:

(eye rolling) Come on Nick, we really got to do this?

Nick:

(turns to other boys, smirking) Dickhead lost his virginity to that ugly sket Martha and all of a sudden thinks he can get chopsy

Another boy:

(to Nick) Swear down you ragged Martha like a few weeks ago?

Nick pushes Harry over (potentially the rocking horse in Cepen Park?)

Nick:

You lot better shut up as well

Nick snatches beer bottle from another boys hand and storms out the park.

Close up on Harry.

Another boy (off camera):

You alright Haz?

Harry:

Yeah mate, think it’s that Sam girl getting in his head again

SCENE 3

ALTERNATING BETWEEN INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM AND INT. SCHOOL GYM

This scene will alternate between Sam and Mia’s conversation in a classroom whilst studying and Nick and Harry’s conversation in the school gym.

Classroom

Sam and Mia are typing up essays on computers; Sam is disinterested and more interested in talking about Nick and the upcoming party. She seems to have forgotten about all his misdemeanours and their issues.

Sam:

Martha’s party is going to be so good I cannot wait, Nick says he’s bringing-

Mia:

Do not get involved with anything Nick is bringing, awwh Sam you know he’s going to get out of control like he always does. He’s going to get off his nut, you’re going to get upset and it’s me who has to deal with it after.

Sam:

Not being funny Mia but you do the same stuff he does and I don’t judge you for it

Mia:

Except when I do it I don’t get aggressive and violent Sam.

Sam looks upset and goes back to doing her essay, typing erratically. Mia rolls her eyes.

School Gym

Nick and Harry are working out and talking in the school gym. Harry is buzzing for Martha’s whilst Nick is being strangely intense about the whole thing as if he’s slightly too excited and it’s disconcerting.

Harry:

Buzzed for Martha’s?

Nick:

(Hold’s weight at the top, looks at Harry) Martha’s is going to be unforgettable

Harry:

Is it? What you bringing? Cos I’ve heard… (He trails off)

Nick:

(Finishes exercise) Drugs, Harry. I’m bringing drugs. (Gets uncomfortably close to Harry) Fucking loads of them.

Classroom

Mia:

“Fucking loads of them”? He really said that?

Sam:

Yeah

Mia:

This is not going to end well

Sam:

It’ll be fine, you’re worrying about nothing. Nick isn’t even that aggressive.

School Gym

Nick:

(shouting at Harry whilst he trains) Come on you pussy, work, push, up up up

Harry lets go of the weight, panting and sweating. He has a drink of water whilst Nick looks at his phone

Nick:

Need to make sure Sam is actually going to be fun at this one. (Sends text) I need everyone to be on it. (Starts exercise)

Harry:

Everyone?

Nick:

(Through gritted teeth) Everyone.

Classroom

Sam’s phone buzzes, she reads it and smiles. Mia rolls her eyes.

Mia:

What do you see in him?

Sam:

He’s just so –

School Gym

Boys are finishing up

Harry:

(Smirking) Exciting?

Nick:

(Humoured) Exciting is one way of putting it, peak if she finds out though

Harry:

She won’t find out mate, its fine

Nick:

It’s Martha’s party dude.

Harry:

I’ll keep her distracted

Nick:

(Smiling) Round two is it?

Harry:

Ding Ding!

Skips to boys walking down corridor

Harry:

Never seen you so worked up over some bird before

Nick:

(snaps) I’m not worked up. I wouldn’t even care if Sam did find out, she wouldn’t do shit. She likes me too much. Still though don’t want to stop shagging either of them, I’ll text Martha quickly.

Harry:

(laughing) Saying what? “Ooh, by the way, don’t say anything about our sexual encounter to anyone, my girlfriend won’t really like it”

Nick:

No, I’ll put a sexy spin on it. (Begins typing) “Hey Martha, let’s keep shit on the down low this Saturday, if you’re lucky we can meet up in the bathroom or something”

Harry:

(laughing and shaking his head) You’re such a twat

Classroom

Sam’s phone buzzes again. Her face drops.

Mia:

(concerned) What?

Scene 3 ends.

SCENE 4

Open with a Morocco landscape pan and peaceful music, followed by clips of Sam and Nick together in Morocco.

Music cuts and pleasant clips are interrupted with phone recording sequence.

Beginning with the point of view of Sam’s phone with the text from the last scene from Nick showing. Sam begins to type: “what the f-” she deletes it and types “we need to meet up before the party”, but deletes that too. She switches to message Mia instead. She types “I need to know what happened between them”. Mia replies “Have you asked him?” to which Sam replies “No, I don’t want to piss him off”. Mia replies saying “FFs, leave it with me”

Scene 4 ends.

SCENE 5

EXT. TUNNEL NEAR DALLAS ROAD

Nick, Harry and other boy(s) walking through tunnel, beers/smoking etc. Intimidating atmosphere, a pair of girls walk past visibly intimidated, boys harass them as they walk past and laugh to themselves

Harry:

Mate, I’m telling you, Sam’s mate, that Mia girl. She’s going round asking about you and Martha

Nick:

How would she know in the first place?

Other boy:

It’s Mia, she’s the biggest gossip going

Nick:

Jesus Christ, this is so much hassle, if Mia’s heard something then she would have obviously said something to Sam and Sam hasn’t said anything to me. It’s fine.

Harry:

Do you even like Sam? Like if you don’t care then what does it matter if she knows? Just dump her ass and move on.

Other boy:

Have you ever actually liked her?

Cue flashback to Morocco

Nick (off camera):

Well….yeah

Flashback consists of multiple sped up clips of Sam in Morocco

Harry:

(Interrupting the flashback sequence) Well Nick? We getting this party started or what? You’ve been going on about this stuff for weeks...?

Nick:

(Snapping back into action) Oh yeah, it’s all in my bag… (Smiles) here we go

Scene 5 ends

SCENE 6

INT. MIA’S KITCHEN

Sam is very drunk and worked up. Mia is trying to calm her down.

Mia:

(alarmed) Sam! I think you’ve had enough! Jesus it’s only meant to be ‘pre-drinks’. You’ve got the entire night to get through

Sam:

(slurred speech, stumbling around, looking for more alcohol) He’s always been a dick. Don’t know why I ever bothered with him the first place. Morocco, morocco, morocco. Stupid fucking Morocco. It meant nothing. I’m done. Done with his bullshit.

Mia:

Sam?

Sam:

Let’s go to the party now…Nick will be off doing his ‘drugs’. They won’t be there for hours, let’s go meet some boys!

Mia:

(face brightens) Now we’re talking!

Mia stands up, excited. They get their drinks and walk out the room together; Mia puts her arm around Sam. As they walk out the room Mia is heard saying:

Mia:

I hear Liam is interested in you

Scene 6 ends

SCENE 7

EXT. STREETS NEAR TUNNEL

Nick and his friends are visibly intoxicated from the drugs they have taken. They stumble around the streets, a couple of them lie on the curb, some are standing still as if entranced and others appear more sober and are trying to shepherd the others along. Nick lies up against the curb and Harry is shaking him.

Harry:

Did you hear what I said Nick? Nick?

Nick:

(incoherent mumble, followed by:) Haz?

Harry:

Nick, look. This is serious. It’s that Liam kid.

Camera shot focuses on the phone which shows a picture of Liam and Sam, Sam has her arm drunkenly around Liam’s neck and they’re laughing. Camera shot shows Nick forcefully blinking in an attempt to clear his eyes. Nick should make a number of crazed mannerisms and gestures in order to convey he is on serious drugs.

Harry:

Nick mate, word is they’ve got together twice already, parties only been going for an hour!

Nick:

(Crazed look on his face) We stop at mine, then party. (Bites lip manically)

SCENE 8

INT. NICK’S BATHROOM/HOUSE

Nick stumbles into Bathroom

Harry:

(Calling from downstairs) You alright?

Nick slams the bathroom door and clears the area by the mirror erratically. (Could throw shampoo, tooth brush, tooth paste etc. to the floor)

Sweating profusely and breathing heavily, he stares at himself in the mirror.

Camera shot transitions into a position where it appears to be the mirror.

Nick checks his teeth, bites the air and then rubs his eyes and stares deeply into his reflection/the camera.

Camera transitions back to viewing him from the side, he turns away from the mirror suddenly as if he’s heard a noise. Looks back to the mirror and there’s the picture of Liam and Sam from Harry’s phone stuck to the mirror. Camera shot switches to his face then back to the mirror and the photo is gone.

SCENE 9

EXT. OUTSIDE NICK’S HOUSE/INT. NICK’S HOUSE

Sam is stood outside Nick’s house facing the door. She looks at her phone, camera shows a text from Nick saying “Come to mine NOW”. She looks nervous as she knocks on the door. After a pause Harry answers it.

Harry:

(Visibly displeased) Look who it is. What do you think you’re doing here?

Sam:

(Nervously) Nick texted me. He told me to come over.

Harry:

(Angrily) Thought you’d be busy at the party….with Liam

Sam:

Just let me in Harry

Harry:

Knew he should have got rid of you months ago. He says you stopped being fun ever since Malaysia.

Sam:

Morocco.

Harry:

What?

Sam:

Morocco, not Malaysia

Harry:

Morocco, Malaysia, bloody Zimbabwe. It doesn’t matter. Get upstairs, I’m sick of dealing with him when he’s monged off his face anyway.

Sam walks past Harry and into the house. Nick appears at the top of the stairs, he’s topless and there’s a white powder all over his face.

Nick:

(shouting manically) Upstairs. Now.

Camera is positioned facing the bedroom door from the point of view of the corridor. Nick appears on camera grabbing Sam and shoving her into the room. He steps in and slams the door behind him (leaving the camera behind). The camera remains on the door as noises of banging and movement are heard.

Sam:

(off camera - screaming) Nick! Nick! Stop!

Nick:

(off camera - shouting) Liam, Liam, fucking Liam. You disrespect me. You slut. Slut slut slut. Do you know who I am? (slapping noise)

Sam:

(Sobbing) Nick

Nick:

(Shouting louder) Who am I? Answer me! Stupid bitch, I said answer me. (another slapping noise) I haven’t loved you since-

Camera switches to Harry at the bottom of the stairs. Looking scared.

Camera goes back to the door.

Nick:

(off camera) You have been disgusting to me since-

Camera switches to Mia in the bathroom at the party with muffled music in the background. She is looking at her phone nervously as if waiting for a phone call.

Camera goes back to the door.

Nick:

(off camera) You’ve been a bitch since –

Camera switches to the Moroccan landscape from the beginning

Sam:

(calmly) Since Morocco

Loud thud. Scene turns to black for a few seconds.

Camera returns to the bottom of the door, it slowly pans upwards, to the door handle. The camera pauses on the handle and then the handle moves. Camera moves back and the door opens slowly. Sam is stood there, panting, holding a knife dripping with blood. Nick’s lifeless feet can be seen behind her.

Slow motion shot of the pair of them in Morocco.
