The new four-door saloon will be built on FIAT Group’s newest and most advanced architecture, the CUSW (Compact US Wide) platform, which is derived from the best-selling Alfa Romeo Giulietta’s underpinnings. CUSW debuted with the new Dodge Dart at the Detroit Motor Show in January. At 4,679mm long, 1,850mm wide and with a 2,708mm wheelbase, the Viaggio promises to be one of the roomiest cars in the C-segment, an important consideration for buyers in the biggest selling vehicle segment in China. The FIAT Viaggio will also be the only vehicle in its class offered exclusively with turbo-charged engines. The 1.4-litre T-Jet unit will be available with 120hp or 150hp, mated either to a five-speed manual or Fiat Powertrain Technology’s new DDCT dual-clutch transmission. The new saloon, which was styled by FIAT’s Centro Stilo in Turin, will be known as both as “Viaggio” (“Voyage” in Italian) and by its Chinese name “Fei Xiang”, which translates as “Flying”. The new FIAT sedan, the first car produced in the new GAC-FIAT World Class Manufacturing plant in Changsha, Hunan province, goes on sale in the third quarter of 2012.
