SPECIAL NOTES!!!!CURRENT SINGIGERS ONLY SECTION INFO

I have been getting questions about when the practice files will be accessible in the Current Singers Only section of our web site. I always send out the passwords to access that section once there are files posted. Usually in the 4th or 5th week. This season it will happen a little earlier in the 3rd or 4th week once the registration roundup and record keeping is all finished.

GINGER TEA

This is a great drink to bring to choir, either hot or cold. It is delicious, stimulating and soothing for the throat, and a great aid to digestion.

No recipe is required - simply slice up a bunch of fresh ginger root (one-half cup sliced ginger would do well with 3-4 cups water), add water, and boil for at least 20 minutes, lid on the pot. If it's too strong for your taste, add more water, If it's not strong enough, boil it a little longer - maybe with the lid off, so it evaporates a bit.

Add honey to taste. It keeps well in the fridge for days. A nice way to take care of your voice!

~ Shivon

GLORIA

We are in the midst of a great session with our 14 participants of the Community Choir Leadership Training Program.

I hope that many of you will come to the Church of Truth next Thursday and/or Friday - you can choose the times.

Pick up a slip with the information on it at choir and also see the detailed information in the “Extra Special Note” above.

GETTIN’ HIGHER CHOIR INFO

GHC NEWS & BUSINESSNAME TAG INFO

New people…Gloria will be bringing do-it-yourself name tags to choir for the next couple of weeks. Please write your first name on yours in large letters to make it easy for us all to get a handle on you.

Veterans…Be sure to bring, and wear, your name tags for the benefit of the new members and memory challenged folks like me.

Keeping your name tag in the inside pocket of your binder, or with its cord locked in the rings, so it is available to wear every time you come to choir is also a good idea.

** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** **

REMINDERS RE: BINDERS

Put a label with your name and possibly your phone number on your binder. That will increase your chances of getting it back quickly if you happen to leave it somewhere other than choir. Inside or out, but out is best as makes it less likely for anyone to pick it up by mistake.

NO NUTS TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS!!!

This is a heads-up for new singers and a reminder for veterans. It will run for the first few weeks of choir while we get everyone registered.

Our member who is seriously allergic to nuts (all kinds) is with us again this season. Please do not bring anything to choir that contains any type or amount of nuts. In fact please don’t eat nuts before coming to rehearsals or concerts. Even the smell of nuts on someone’s breath can trigger an anaphylactic reaction with drastic negative results.

Please keep this request firmly in mind and make our GHC Tuesday and Thursday practices absolutely nut free time zones!

OTHER INFO ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY OF CHOIRS

GHC & HNC CAR POOLINGWANTED & OFFERED

To arrange car pools you can announce your request/offer at break time at choir (GHC or HNC).  You can also email me at [email protected] with your name, contact information, where you start from, whether you need a ride or are offering one and which choir you are in.  I will put a listing under the appropriate Car Pool heading for you in the next newsletter.  Don’t be shy about repeating your request in subsequent weeks at choir or in the newsletter if you don’t connect the first time.

MONDAY CAR POOL WANTED FROM/TO CORDOVA BAY

I want to re-join the choir this year after being away for a while.  I drive but am a little hesitant about driving at night and more hesitant about driving in bad weather, particularly on the winding roads of the Saanich peninsula, as the Monday group on West Saanich Road is the closest to me.

I would like to connect with one or more members from the Cordova Bay area, or who could go through it without going too far out of their way, to arrange mutual car pooling.

I am open to a regular arrangement with one person or connecting with a few people I could call on in rotation when a ride is needed.

If either possibility interests you please contact me at either [email protected] or 250-480-5192

RIDE TO/FROM FERNWOOD WANTED

Last year I had the most rewarding experience singing with all of you!  I enjoyed it very much and it gave me a sense of community and togetherness I so much needed, being new to this beautiful city.  I would love to do it again this season, but I don't drive and the friend I went last time to the rehearsals with, moved to Sydney.

I would really like connect with one or more people to car pool with for Tuesday, Thursday or both.  I live in near Bay & Fernwood.

THURS RIDES WANTED TO/FROM MAYFAIR AREA

I am a new singer with a physical challenge that limits the amount of walking I can do. For the time being at least I will be going mostly on Mondays and have a ride that night. I would, however, like to also go on Thursdays sometimes. If you would be willing to give me a lift from time to time please contact me at 250-384-1159.

If more than one of you responds I will spread my Thursday ride request around.

ADMIN TEAM SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

From time to time Shivon, Denis, Gloria or Bill will use this section to announce activities and events that they are involved in, or support, outside of their normal

work for the choirs and the CCLT.

Play:SLEEPING GIANTSCreated & performed byInmates at William Head Prisong

This original play runs from Oct 7 to Nov. 15 so this information is a bit time sensitive since tickets can only be purchased in advance.

I saw the performance last year and haven't forgotten about it. I've seen rehearsals and been working on costumes this year and have been changed. The level of vulnerability, beauty and dreaming these men are diving into is magical.

HELP WITH PACKING NEEDED

Former GHC and Soundings soprano Pamela Vine has to move. Since her need is too time sensitive for the next Community Issue to be of much help here is what she has to say….

I'm looking for a student or anyone who would like to help me pack. It will be mostly kitchen items, not heavy things. I can pay $12 hr, and I  live in Esquimalt.  (I'd also accept volunteers, if anyone feels moved to help me!) Email Pamela at <[email protected]> or call (250) 727-7401.

HEROWORK UDATE

it's only FIVE days TO the Big Reveal of the radical renovation of the Rainbow Kitchen! Here is there latest update…

“Believe me when I tell you that there will be tears of joy when the recipients see what we've done. If you attend you will see the whole thing live, streamed into monitors on the street.”

This past week has been a blast for the HeroWork team, with the power of community on full display including a full complement of trades, community companies, and volunteers. As a result, all major elements will be completed before Saturday.

However, it's important not to underestimate the last 5% of work. This last push often takes twice as much effort as you might think. For this reason we are hoping for a swell of our numbers. We need more carpenters, installers, cleaners, landscapers, painters, and general helpers. About 20 or 25 more people should do the trick.

To see some of the amazing photos from this past week, check out this Facebook Album page. All images are downloadable. Don't forget to "like" us. See examples below!Staying inspired,

~ Paul Latour, Creator and ED of HeroWork

If you are up to volunteering for this spectacular event’s final push this weekend there's two ways to get involved. You can sign-up through the HeroWork Volunteer portal, or you can email our Community Coordinator, Thejasvi Ramu (TJ), at [email protected]. If you email, please include your phone number so she can call back and arrange your shift(s).
