Classroom rules:high school students should know the basics such as coming to class on time and being prepared so here’s what else is expected:
1. RESPECT: we are all different in many ways so we all must be respectful of each other and be attentive to whomever is speaking.
2. COOPERATION: we must all be mindful of following directions especially in the lab setting so we all stay safe.
3. TIME MANAGEMENT: you should be in your seat ready to work when the first bell rings; all HW and labs should be handed in by the date due.
Absences o absent students are responsible for ALL content,
labs and assigned work missed during absenceo absence day before test/quiz is not an excuse for
postponing the assessmento students are given detailed handouts of what
missed during absenceo PowerPoint lessons & HW assignments are
posted in your google classroomo missed labs must be made up, after school,
within 1 week
Labs
o student must earn a passing grade on their labs to satisfy the NYS lab requirement
o late labs will have 1 point deducted for each day late, up to 7 days; after 7 days labs receive a grade of zero & are eligible for lab minutes only
o lab make-ups can only be done after school; make-up dates will be given to student
o all missed labs must be made up within 1 week; any lab that is not made up will earn a grade of zero
You don’t want to miss a lab day! Labs are critical towards reinforcing your learning. The Board of Regents has as a prerequisite that students must have successfully completed 1200 minutes of laboratory experience with satisfactory lab reports on file in order to sit for the June Physical Setting, Chemistry Regents Examination. Students who DO NOT meet this lab requirement will be barred from the Chemistry Regents exam in June.
LAB SAFETY: o safety rules in the lab will be strictly
enforced; there are NO exceptions! o any student not practicing safety in the
lab must leave the lab area immediately; a grade of zero will be given for the lab
A NOTE ABOUT ASSESSMENTS:CELL PHONES are prohibited during a quiz/test; having a phone out
(whether in use or not) will result in a grade of zero – NO EXCEPTIONS! Unit Tests are announced in advance and are given at the completion of each unit.
o students legally absent 2+ days before a unit test have 1 week to complete the testo students absent one day before the test will take test as scheduled o students absent on test day will be expected to take the next class day
Quizzes are usually announced in advance, however, pop quizzes can happen anytime
