Alfreton Park Special School– Forest School Site Features

Within a small space, separate, distinct and interesting places have been created.

The willow dome will provide shade and shelter and produce shoots to be woven in and strengthen the structure or to be pruned for use within other projects.

A large shelter which is big enough to stand in extends the canopy cover provided by the small number of trees.

Doorways to other spaces/worlds. Who uses this door?

A small concrete fire pit purchased from a garden centre has been sunk and a no longer used sand pit is used to keep the area dry.

Stumps are used for seating with the addition of a special storytelling chair (also useful where back support is required). To give an idea of scale this picture shows over half the site.

A mud kitchen/equipment store is included where pupils can select their own resources. A portable version can be used at off-site FS bases.

Screening or planting can be useful where sites back on to areas open to the public and also provide additional shelter from wind and rain.
