Maize Road Civic AssociationJanuary Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order 6:37 p.m. by Curtis McKenzie. Members were reminded of the Oakland Park Spring Fling, and KickButt March 25th. Geri asked for volunteers to help with NNO. Marie asked members to email her addresses of vacant houses in their area. She also questioned the noise level of trains at Cooke Rd. The guest speaker was Jeff Young and his assistant Kelly McGuire, from Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Mr. Young stated that his agency oversees emergencies such as tornadoes, floods, blizzards and terrorism. He works closely with Franklin County fire chiefs, TV weather personnel, airport officials and The Ohio State University. He stated that there are 193 tornado sirens in Franklin County, all on public property. A mapped was passed out showing the location of the 4 sirens in the local area. An all-state tornado drill is scheduled March 22, 9:50 a.m. Study is being made to have the alarms set up in 4 quadrants, activating on those needed. Members were encouraged to sign up for ALERT Franklin County at alertfranklincounty.org. A variety of questions were answered by Mr. Young. Meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
