Covid 19 School Closure

Class: Primary 1 Date: 1/06/20

Dear Parent,

Please see below for some ideas for you to support your child during the coming weeks. This fortnight we will look at Colours & Three Little Pigs. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch by email if you have any questions.

Fine Motor Skills

● Using coloured pencils, draw small circles all over a sheet of paper. Then encourage your child to

match the colours and fill them in, keeping inside the lines as much as possible. You may need to guide your child by putting your hand over their hand.

● Painting Fireworks A lovely activity with items from the home that is also sensory and can help

children learn about different colours and mixing paints. All you need are some empty toilet rolls, scissors and paint.

Gross Motor Skills

● Balloon Activities - practise throwing and catching, rolling and bouncing.

Sensory Activities

● Using an ice cube tray or any other small containers, create sensory ice cubes with small items in them for the children to find as the ice cube melts. Great for the hot weather. You could put a lego man, pom poms, some flowers etc. Using food colouring can make this activity more interesting.

Communication Activities

● Develop understanding of ‘where’ questions using real objects and activities. Repeat these

activities using as many different objects from your home/locality

o Play Hide and Seek. You can use toys and hide them around the house asking ‘where is x?’ using plenty of gestures and facial expression. Then model ‘here it is’ or ‘here is x’, when it’s found.

Literacy

● Create your own Word Search Puzzles

● Three little Pigs; read the story, sequence and worksheets (attached)

● Sight Word Practise sheets (attached)

● Try the Endless Reader App for learning Sight Words as suggested by the NCSE on Useful Apps –

National Council for Special Education

Numeracy Activities

● Colour and count the flower activities. Print and create the booklet (attached)● Colour Match Cars Painting This is a lovely fine motor and sensory activity also.● Order the numbers, two worksheets (attached)

SPHE

● We are beginning to see more and more people around us wearing masks, this can be very strange for children so I’ve attached a Social Story about Seeing Others Wearing Masks to help ease any anxiety about this. You could also help your child by letting them touch and feel a mask, try it on if they want or see someone in their family try it on.
