Weekly Planner Week commencing: Monday 20th April 2020 Class: Year 6 Squirrels and Magpies Languages, Literacy and Communication This week you will be using the picture 'Animal Town' from’ Pobble 365’ as a stimulus for your written work. The task is to continue the story, but we would like you to focus on using the questions first as a stimulus for your writing. Be creative as you can – we are looking forward to you using your imagination and creating jobs around the town that are suited for particular animals, e.g. What job would a giraffe have? Remember to include your feelings and write in the first person. Can you use verbs and adverbs to describe what each of the animals in the picture are doing? Add those extra details with 'Sentence Challenge.' Remember: - what do most adverbs end in? Test your grammar and vocabulary with 'Sick Sentences' Can you draw a picture of what a scene looks like in the supermarket in Animal Town? If you could be any animal, what would it be and why? Writing Task 'Green Ideas' – Enjoy writing nonsensical sentences and discover that words take particular roles (functions) in sentences. Brainstorming lots of different types of word – e.g. describing words (adjectives) and combining these in odd sentences - Have fun! Reading Comprehension Challenge – We have uploaded the answers to last week’s reading challenge 'The Humble Potato' for you to check before Easter. This week’s comprehension is called “Wolf Pack.” Give yourself 30minutes to read the booklet then work your way through the answer booklet developing key skills of inference and deduction. This fortnight's pattern are words ending in “ible,” and “able.” There are many different ways you can learn these spellings to make the task more fun. Some suggestions are using chalks outside, writing the words using a paintbrush and water outside, using twigs. If you use any other different ways please share them with the class!And remember to Read, Read, Read - enjoy reading for pleasure and for sustained periods of time in your bedroom, living room or even venture out into your garden!'The school Reading List' is a lovely resource listing a wide range of wonderful recommended reading materials from children's classics, to graphic novels, to magazine and newspaper recommendations and are suitable for a wide range of ages, interests and abilities.

Cross curricular As it is the start of the summer term, we will be starting a new topic next week. This week, you may have a choice of the work that you complete.

2. Create a “Time Capsule”. We have uploaded teh 'Time Capsule Challenge' idea sheets to TEAMS/HWB for you to use as a guide if you were creating a time capsule for this unique period of time. You can present the information in any way that you wish. However, an idea might be to use each sheet, perhaps, as a slide for a Power point presentation. Try to include pictures as well.

Year 5 and 6 Topic Tasks Spring Term

Complete a task each week linked to our topic ‘Time Travellers.’ You can present your information on HWB using your class group or teams. Use a range of multimedia to showcase your work E.G. Photographs, audio, video footage, PowerPoint and SWAY.
