BuzzUse numbers or number some keywords. Choose a multiple of a number to be ‘buzz’. On multiples of that number the person doesn’t say the number/keyword, they say ‘buzz’. If they don’t they get a ‘mark’ (bee). If a person says the wrong number or takes longer than 3 seconds in their turn, they get a ‘mark’ (bee) too. The person with the least ‘marks’ (bees) at the end wins.

What's the time Mr Wolf? What's the time Mr Wolf is a classic kids party game for children of all ages to enjoy. Play along and make this kids activity the highlight of your party. Get ready for lots of laughs!Number of players:4+What you need:

a clockActivity:One child is chosen to be Mr Wolf, who then stands at one end of the playing area. The other players stand in a line at the other end.

Mr Wolf turns his back to commence play. The players call out, "What's the time Mr Wolf?" and Mr Wolf turns and answers with a time (i.e. 3 o'clock). He then turns his back again while the children advance again chanting "What's the time Mr Wolf?" To which Mr Wolf will continue to respond until the players come very close.

Once the line of players is close to Mr Wolf, he can respond to the chant with "It's dinner time!" at which point, he will chase the players back to the starting line with the aim to catch one of the them, who will then become Mr Wolf for the next round of the game.

Cup-to-Cup Age: 3+What you will need: Plastic cups, small items that can fit inside cups eg. erasers, magnets, coins, wrapped candy Number of Players: 6 or moreThis is a great party game for indoor or outdoor fun. Each player is given a plastic cup and players form into 2 teams. Each team sits in a line, side by side, facing the other team.A collection of small items are placed at the end of each team, next to the first player. These small items might include erasers, magnets, coins, wrapped candy; these should be things that are small enough to fit inside the plastic cups. The object of the race is to see which team can pass each item down the line from cup-to-cup the quickest. Each item must be passed one at a time, and the next item can only be picked up once the first item has reached the end of the line. No hands can touch the objects, expect for the 1st player who has to pick up new items, and if an item is dropped and needs to be put back into the cup – although for older kids, no hands at all might be an added challenge!

Players must search through magazines to complete the list within the time limit

Musical Drop Age: 3+What you will need: MusicNumber of Players: 6 or moreThis is a variation on Musical Chairs, but without the chairs. When the music stops, players must sit down on the ground as fast as they can. The last player standing is out. Another variation is to place soft toys in the centre of the play area, with the toys numbering one less than the number of players. The kids dance around the toys while the music plays, and one it stops must try to grab a toy from the centre. The player who misses out on a toy is out.

Pass the Parcel (3 Options) Age: 3+What you will need: Music, prize or prizes wrapped in layers of paperNumber of Players: 4 or moreOption 1 – One prize is wrapped in many layers of paper. The players sit in a circle and pass the parcel while the music plays. When the music stops, the player holding the parcel must un-wrap a layer. This continues until the last layer is removed to reveal the prize to the winner.Option 2 – The same number of prizes as players are wrapped in the parcel. As each player un-wraps a layer they receive a prize and sit out for the remainder of the game. The final prize is usually slightly better, but not essential – everyone’s a winner.Option 3 – One prize is wrapped in many layers, but each layer has a different message that directs the player holding the parcel to pass it to someone else. For example the message might read ‘pass to the person opposite to where you are sitting’ or ‘pass to a person with brown eyes’. A different message is contained in each layer, until the final player un-wraps the prize.

Who am I? Take turns in choosing an animal/vocab and giving everyone else clues about what your animal is. Give away clues until someone else guesses what the animal is. Tailor the clues to suit the class. Eg. “I have 4 legs” or “I like to swing in the trees and eat bananas”.

Number of Players: 4 or moreEach player is given a hat with the name or picture of a celebrity or character. They are not allowed to look at their own hat, but they can see each other’s hat. Players must guess the identity of the celebrity or character on their hat by asking questions that can only be answered ‘yes’ or ‘no’One by one, each player asks the group a question to try and learn the identity of their hat. If their question is answered with a ‘yes’ they can have another turn. Eg “Is it a female?”, “Are they are a singer?”

Duck, Duck, Goose Age: 3+Number of Players: 4 or morePlayers sit in a circle on the floor with one player selected as leader. The leader walks around the outside of the circle saying “duck” as they lightly touch each player on the head. The Teacher’s Cat The object of the game is to fill in the blanks of the rhyme with an adjective and a name both beginning with the same letter1. Each player takes a turn in reciting the rhyme “The teacher's cat is a ____(adjective)____ cat, and his/her name is _(name)_” and include the missing words starting with the letter ‘a’. 2. Eg “The teacher's cat is an awful cat and his name is Austin” 3. After each player has had a turn using the letter ‘a’, they move on to use ‘b’ and so-on through the alphabet eg. “The teacher's cat is a beautiful cat and her name is Beth” 4. Players drop out as they repeat words or can’t think of a word within 3 seconds

Heads Down, Thumbs Up This is a great game to play indoor or outdoor with a larger group of kids. The children have to correctly guess who touched their thumb while their eyes were closed. The fun begins with three or more children selected as the thumb tippers. All other children in the group sit on the floor, either in a circle or scattered around with their eyes tightly closed and thumbs pointed up in the air. The tippers must quietly tip one person in the group. Once the tippers have completed their task, the children who had their thumbs tipped must correctly guess who tipped them. If they guess

correctly they become a tipper, if not the tipper remains in.Musical Statues Age: 4+What you will need: MusicNumber of Players: 6 or morePlayers stand in the play area and when the music plays, they dance around to the beat. Word Smith The object of the game is for players to think of as many words as possible starting with a particular letter1. Each player is given, or selects a letter of the alphabet from a hat2. They have 1 minute to yell out as many words as they can that begins with that letter3. One player acts as the time keeper and word counter4. Another variation of this game, for older kids, is to have different categories eg girls names, colours, cities, animals, that begin with that letter 5. The winner is the player with the most words

Page 14: €¦  · Web view2. The 1st player chooses any word that fits that category, the next player must then think of a word that also fits the category and starts with the last letter

Hangman (draw a house instead)The object of the game is to guess the word or phrase using correct letters before the house is drawn1. One player thinks of a word or phrase and draws dashed lines on a piece of paper to represent each letter2. Each player then takes a turn at guessing a letter that is hopefully part of the mystery word or phrase3. The letter is either marked on the dashed line if it does appear, or else it is marked to the side and a section of the house image is drawn4. Each incorrect guess adds another element to the drawing of the house until either the word or phrase is correctly guessed, or the house is completely drawn.

Secret Whispers This is a classic word game perfect for groups. Children sit in a circle and the first person thinks of a message to whisper into the next child’s ear eg ‘games are fun’. The message is passed from one child to the next until it reaches the last player who repeats it out loud. As children become more confident, tongue twisters can be whispered down the line, or phases from a nursery rhyme and all players can sing the rhyme when the message reaches the end.

I went for a walk This games is a great word game for kids that helps in developing language, thinking and memory skills. Everyone sits in a circle and the game begins with someone saying “I went for a walk” and adding something they saw along the way. I went for a walk and saw a dog I went for a walk and saw a dog and a car I went for a walk and saw a dog, a car and a tree I went for a walk and saw a dog, a car, a tree and a bird Another idea is to draw the objects as they are added to help the children, especially younger ones, remember all the words. The theme of the game can also be changed so the children can think of different ideas .eg. I went to the zoo and saw a…

Story Boards A board and magnetic pictures can help bring a favourite story to life. Using a magnetic white board, draw or collect pictures that relate to your child’s favourite story book and glue them onto magnets. As the story unfolds your child can add new pictures to the board. Classic fairy tales such as Cinderella, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread Man can all be brought to life this way.

Last and First The object of the game is to use the last letter of the previous word and make it the first letter of your new word1. Players decide on a category eg. Animals, cities, food, names2. The 1st player chooses any word that fits that category, the next player must then think of a word that also fits the category and starts with the last letter of the first word eg. if the category is animals and the first word is dog, the second word might be goat, the third word tiger etc3. Players have 5 seconds to think of a new word. Any player that repeats a word, or uses a word not suited the category, or fails to add a word is out

Hot and Cold Age: 4+Things you need: Small objects to hideNumber of Players: 2 or moreThe object of the game is for a player to try and find a hidden object while the other players give clues depending on how close they are to it – hot or cold1. The other players give clues by instructing if the hunter is warm or getting warmer as they move towards it, or cool and getting colder as they move away

4. As the hunter moves towards ‘burning up’ they will ultimately find and claim the prize

Hide and Seek Age: 4+Number of Players: 3 or moreThe object of this hide and seek game is to both find and tag the other players if you are the seeker, or to make it back to home base if you are hiding1. One player is selected to be the seeker and a ‘home base’ is established. This could be a tree, wall or patio2. The seeker counts to 50 while the other players find hiding spots. When the seekers has finished counting he yells ‘ready or not, here I come’ and begins searching3. Once a player has been found the seeker yells “1, 2, 3 on ‘players name’” and both have to race back to home base. If the hider wins he is safe, if the seeker wins the hider is out4. The game continues until everyone is caught or made it to home base

Page 17: €¦  · Web view2. The 1st player chooses any word that fits that category, the next player must then think of a word that also fits the category and starts with the last letter

Coin Hunt Age: 4+Things you need: Small objects to hide such as coins or lollies and each player has a cupNumber of Players: 2 or moreThe object of this hide and seek game is for players to find the most hidden coins 1. An adult or game supervisor hides coins around a room or area, inside books, behind photo frames, under cushions2. Squeeze Spotter Age: 5+Number of Players: 8 or moreThe object of the game is for the ‘hunter’ to spot the hand squeeze as it moves around the circle1. Players sit in a circle with the hunter in the middle2. The players have to hold hands and one player is chosen to discreetly start by squeezing the next persons hand who then passes the squeeze along3. The Hunter has to try and spot a hand squeeze as it moves around the circle4. The players can change the direction that the squeeze is moving by squeezing a person’s hand twice5. When the hunter spots the squeeze, the person squeezing becomes the hunter

Pairs (Memory Game)Age: 3+Things you need: pack of cards with pairs or sets of fourNumber of Players: 2 or moreThe object of the game is collect matching pairs of cards1. Go Fish The object of the game is to collect the most sets of 4 cards of any rank (eg. All four Jack’s in Spade, Club, Heart and Diamond, all four Kings, Aces, Queens, 3’s, 5’s etc..) 1. Everyone picks a card, and the highest card deals2. If there are 2 or 3 players, each receives 7 cards. If there are more players, each receives 5 cards3. Spread the remaining cards face down on the table or floor (this becomes the ‘fish pond’) 4. Each player should group their own cards into sets, so they can easily see what cards they need to complete their sets of 45. The 1st player is to the dealers left, and begins by choosing another player and asking for the card they need to complete their set of 4 eg. If they have 3 Queens, they may ask the other player if they have any Queens6. If the player has the requested card they must hand it over and the set of 4 is complete. The 1st player continues to request cards7. When the requested card is not available the player cries out ‘Go Fish!’ 8. When told to ‘Go Fish’, the player selects a card from the ‘fish pond’ and adds it to their pile. It is then the next player’s turn9. Players should pay attention to what cards people are requesting, so they can request the same cards later if needed10.
