Dear Future Third Grade Parents, Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I am Mrs. Garcia, next year’s Third Grade Teacher. I am looking forward to having your child in my classroom. In order for your child to be prepared for Third Grade, I am including a list of skills they can practice on, over the summer. Language Arts: Purchase the workbook 2-3 Summer Bridge Activities Book and complete all the pages. o The book is available online at sites such as Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and in store at Education Station. This is a very popular book, quantities may be limited at stores, early purchasing is highly recommended. o Parents, please throw away answer key. o Have your child complete as many pages as he or she can. 1-2 pages daily will be sufficient. o Please bring the workbook to class on the first day of school. Read 20 minutes a day. It would be best if your child practices reading aloud, if not, silently is fine. Chapter books, comic books, magazines, appropriate articles from the Internet, and newspapers are all acceptable. Spelling: Attached is a spelling list. Please have your child learn the listed words. It is imperative that the student’s have all their materials on the first day of school. There are a few items that need to be available all year, reminders to restock these certain supplies will come every trimester. Please read the school supply list that will be mailed to you.

Have your child study and memorize the spelling of these words. It is important that your child knows the spelling of these words by the 3rd grade. Try giving them 15-20 words a week to study and orally (or written) give them a test on those words. You could give them more words at a time if you notice that the words are easy for them.
