We’re better equipped to find extraterrestrial life now than ever beforeBy Smithsonian.com, adapted by Newsela staff
Astronomers are getting closer to being able to find a message from extraterrestrial life. Extraterrestrial life is life that is not on Earth. Scientists have new technologies. They also have more data. This will help them search for life beyond Earth.
The chances of finding life are increasing, says Andrew Siemion. He runs the Berkeley SETI Research Center. SETI stands for Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence.
Siemion spoke at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. They are also called AAAS. Siemion said there is a lot more data now. The data is from a project. The project recorded radio signals from space.
Jill Tarter is an astronomer. She works with the SETI Research Center. She said they are working on a new project. It is called Laser SETI. They will place 96 cameras around the world. The cameras will look for signals from space.
