Jesus…Stephen…Saul…in Unity In my eyes, one of the toughest aspects of pastoral ministry is preparing couples for the Sacrament of Marriage. I have sensed this from early in doing ministry. In a very brief span of time, a priest or deacon has to instruct a couple (which would be wise to share this knowledge learned with their families) on what the Sacrament is, their knowledge of each other necessary for being the Sacrament (living witnesses to God as Jesus was, is and will be) and how they need to grow (work at being the Sacrament). In order to do the minis-try, time is a challenge as well as each individual’s preconceived understanding of what Marriage is according to the Church both in mind and in heart. One may be thinking what does the above have to do with these Easter Season readings at Church? Actually, there is lot to learn from these readings regarding faithful folks that want to be in the front of the faithful believers as a witness of the unity of God as Father and Son. In the Acts of the Apostles, both Stephen and Saul experience God’s communications. Note that the experience of the two are similar (in a type of trance but Saul’s is later on route to Damascus). Is it not true of couples? At any moment, the individuals of a couple can be either a Stephen, insightful, or a Saul, head strong on doing his or her way rather than as God would have one see it. John’s Gospel is about a community striving to be united as the Father and Son are united. The com-munity (like a couple) witnesses to the “world” what Jesus gave them: 1) a challenge to recognize God in him (each other); 2) God’s pleasure with his (their) behavior (totally self-giving); 3) God’s approving action, Jesus’ (their) resurrection (coming to a fuller life on earth). Marriage is about witnessing through daily efforts to the unity of the Trinity!

Reminders and Gratitude Many thanks are extended to the parishioners and neighbors who have contributed to the livelihood of the parish of Saint Maria Goretti. Whether in services to the poor, the needy, the Masses, the school or various ministries, we all are important and valuable to the welfare of our faith community. We all need each other.
In addition, the physical buildings and other facilities of our parish also are in need of your help and considerations. All parking lots and garbage dump-
sters at the Missions of Immaculate Conception, St.
Lawrence O’Toole and St. Joseph are for the church, convent, or school uses only. Please do not misuse and abuse them. Common goods require communal care. Keeping them clean, neat, efficient and beautiful not only enhance the quality of our worship and save money, but also make the neighborhood and physical plants more appealing. Thank you for your understanding and consideration.
Please also keep our parish staff informed if you see anything destructive, wrong, or misuses to our church, convent, or school properties.
Payment of Debt Report In the desire for transparency, we make the following report:
The sale of the parking lot at St. Joseph Mission realized proceeds of $647,938.90. $200,000 was applied to the past due debt of the parish and school insurance.
The remaining balance from the lot sale was applied as follows: $422,057.25 to the past school insurance debt and $25,881.15 to past due parish insurance debt.
As of February 28, 2019 the Parish debt is $51,441.47 of unpaid insurance and $510,362.56 of outstanding loan balance for a total of $561,804.03.
Please note that this does not reflect any unpaid insurance or other debt accrued by the school or parish over the past three months, since February 28.
