Imagine a world where old age can be enjoyed rather than endured; where illness is not a natural consequence of ageing; where older people stay connected in their communities and feel empowered to live independently for longer. This is our vision at Move it or Lose it, we want to change the way we age.

We can achieve this by motivating people to be more active, by bringing people together in connected communities and by working with other organisations such as RVS and the NHS to help our older generation to live healthier, happier lives.

As collaborating partners with the Centre for Healthy Ageing Research, we translate this evidence-based research into practical applications to help minimise age-related musculoskeletal decline and disease.

We have partnered with Royal Voluntary Service by training their staff and volunteers and also to encourage volunteering amongst our supporters. Through befriending and working collaboratively, we can help more people to live independently and avoid loneliness in later life. Not only is this beneficial to the older person, it has the potential to save Clinical Commissioning Groups million of pounds every year.

We are also working with the NHS to deliver exercise sessions in GP surgeries to bring about positive behaviour change and help patients manage their long-term health conditions, which currently account for 50% of GP appointments. We achieve this by ensuring patients continue exercising in their local community after a twelve-week intervention and by supporting them through technology with our unique app. This leads to improved quality of life for the individual and has the potential to save NHS expenditure through reduced medication and primary care appointments.

Now it’s time to take the Move it or Lose it mission across the UK. I hope you will join us to help more people enjoy healthier, happier lives.

Our aim is to have a Move it or Lose it class accessible to every older person across the UK to help them improve their

flexibility, aerobic health, balance and strength for greater independence. We call this FABS.

We work in community, care and health settings motivating older people to get active and stay active.
