This type of combination screw is fitted with a plain washer DIN 6902, which has hardness of 200 - 250 HV. The washer is attached to the screw before threading in order to let the washer turn freely without detaching. The combination screw has to meet the following requirements: The bottom face of the head must be level, nominal diameter needs to be between M2.5 - M12 and the material strength has to be, according to ISO 898, at most 10.9.

This type of combination screw is fitted with a spring washer DIN 6905 following DIN 267-26 technical delivery conditions. A plain washer DIN 6902 with hardness of 200-250 HV can also be attached, if so required. The washer(s) is attached to the screw before threading in order to let the washer(s) turn freely without detaching. The combination screw has to meet the fol-lowing requirements: The bottom face of the head must be level, nominal diameter needs to be between M2.5 - M12 and the material strength has to be, according to ISO 898, less than 8.8.

This type of combination screw is fitted with a star washer DIN 6907. The washer is attached to the screw before threading in order to let the washer turn freely without detaching. The combination screw has to meet the following requirements: The bot-tom face of the head must be level, nominal diameter needs to be between M2.5 - M10 and the material strength has to be, according to ISO 898, less than 5.8.

Taptite thread forming screwsMechanical properties according to ISO 7085:1999.

When tapping the neccessary force required is always less than the tensile strength of the screw.

The size of the mounting hole, precision, material properties and lubrication method affects the tapping torque.

The pull-through strength value in the following chart is an directional value, not a constant value set by the ISO standard.

Case hardened self-tapping screws has to be marked with a “-0-” marking.The mark is mandatory in socket and hex head screws with nominal diameter M5 or larger.If separately requested, this mark can also be put in smaller or different types of screws.

Press-in fasteners can be used to create, either internal or external threaded joints on sheet metal. These joining ele-ments are securely clinched to the host material.

The joints can be used to attach and detach objects several times with a screw or a nut. This feature allows the improve-ment of manufacturing efficiency and the production of com-plex sheet metal solutions, such as closed corner products.

There are two types of press-in fasteners, SELF-BROACHING and SELF-CLINCHING based fasteners. Both types are in-stalled to a drilled or punched mount hole in the host mate-rial, by applying a constant squeezing force.

Self-broaching fasteners

A fastener is attached to a mount hole and is pressed from the opposite side, so that the bottom face of the fastener clinches to the host material. The serrated clinching ring in the shank of the fastener provides torque resistance, which prevents any turning between the host material and the fastener. This type of fastener suits well for thin and hard materials.

Self-clinching fasteners

Fasteners with a hexagon head or serrated clinching ring are attached to the host material in a mount hole. The bot-tom face of the fastener is designed to displace the host material causing it to flow into the thread or groove of the fastener, thus locking the fastener securely to the host material. This type of fastener suits especially for sheet metals of medium hardness with minimum thickness of 0.8 mm, as well as for softer materials.

WEARB and WEARBSOWEARB and WEARBSO are internal threaded self-broaching nuts with a serrated shank. When installed the shank rivets around the hole, while the serrated part clinches itself firmly to the host material, ensuring a strong and enduring joint.

WEMINARBWEAMINARB is a miniaturized WEARB. It is especially designed for spots with limited space to operate.

WEMINLOKWEMINKLOK includes the properties of WEMINARB. The last few leads of the nut are distorted in order to give the nut the ability to lock attached fastener, making it resistive to working and vibration loosening.

WES and WECLSWES and WECLS are self-clinching flush nuts, which are installed into a mount hole and locks in place by shaping the host material causing the displaced material to flow to the serrated ring at the bottom face of the fastener.

WEFH and WEFHSWEFH and WEFHS are self-clinching studs that are installed into a mount hole and lock in place by shaping the host material causing the displaced material to flow smoothly and evenly into the groove and around the ribs.

WEHFHWEHFH is a self-clinching stud, which is installed into a mount hole and lock in place by shaping the host mate-rial causing the displaced material to flow smoothly and evenly into the groove and around the ribs.

WEFWEF is a self-clinching flush nut, which allows level surface on both sides of the host material. When installed the hexagonal head embeds into the base material causing the displaced material to flow into the groove, thus locking the fastener to the host material.

WEBSO and WESOWEBSO and WESO are self-clinching standoffs, which allows fastening in different distances from the host mate-rial. When installed, the hexagonal head embeds into the host material causing the displaced material to flow into the clinching groove.

If there are room for the serrated ribs in the mount hole, using a size bigger nut is recommended.

Usage

In order to achieve the best possible joint, it is recommended to install the screw through the opposite side of the head, although it is possible to install the screw from the top face side.

Self-broaching nuts are installed by clamping with a proper sized punch.

1. Punch or drill proper sized mount hole to the sheet metal.

2. Apply steady squeezing force until the bottom face of the fastener touches the sheet metal.

3. Attach the desired object into the sheet metal with a fastener.

Self-clinching studSelf-clinching studs WEFH and WEFHS are external threaded joining elements, which are installed in to the sheet metal by pressing.

The ribs and the groove at the bottom face of the stud shape the host material creating a strong and enduring joining.

Benefits• Easy to install by pressing• High torque resistance• Clean joining• Level opposite side of the joining

When installed, apply squeezing force sufficiently enough to achieve a steady embedment of the head. Using excess force must be avoided. Installation squeezing force varies depend-ing on the material of the sheet and the size of the fastener. See page 104 for more information.

Noteworthy

In particular installation combinations depending on the size of the fastener and the thickness of the sheet metal, the anvil must be equipped with a countersink. Countersink is needed for self-clinching studs M5 or less when installed in to a sheet with thickness 1.5 mm or less. Self-clinching nuts M6 or larger also require a countersink, when the sheet thickness is 2.5 mm or less.

All self-clinching fasteners are easy to install without special tools. Self-clinching fastener is installed by ap-plying constant squeezing force. It is recommended to install the fastener into a punched or drilled mount hole.

WES & WECLS self-clinching nut installation

1. Drill or punch a proper sized hole into a sheet metal and install the press-in fastener directly into the place.

2. Clamp the fastener steadily with a right sized tool above the fastener until the head is embedded into the sheet.

3. Fasten the desired fastener from the opposite side.

WEF Self-clinching flush nut installation

1. Drill or punch a proper sized hole into a sheet metal and install the press-in fastener directly into the place.

KALEI clinch nutThe KALEI clinch nut is installed manually or by clamping into a drilled or punched mount hole.

Rivet nuts

Tools are important when using rivet nuts. They are strong and easy to use. The nosepiece and cap screw are easy to replace. A single tool suits for the installation of various sizes. Easy to use manual, pneumatic and hydraulic tools are available for use. The rivet nuts are placed into drilled or punched mount holes. The rivet nut is then placed into the nosepiece manually or automatically, depending on the type of the tool. When the jaw pusher is drawn out the non-threaded part of the nut expands radially, thus riveting the nut into the material. Turning the cap screw counter-clockwise releases the tool from the nut.

When the material is thin, using rivet nuts is a simple and ideal way of creating a threaded joint.

The rivet nut suits well for materials with thickness of 0.25 to 8.00 mm.

Available in different materials: Steel, aluminium and stainless steel.

Thread range: M3 – M12

Shank models

Round:Most common when using normal load on a steel sheet.

Round, Rifled:Grants higher torque resistance.

Hexagon:Grants the highest torque resistance with high loads.

Head models

Pan head:Most common when joint surface isn’t required to be level.

Flat head:Used when the joint surface needs to be level.

Reduced Head:Used when the joint surface needs to be level with the sheet metal.

Thru-holed or blind model

Thru-holed:Most common when an efficient and strong penetrating internal thread, without the need for sealing, is required.

Blind:Grants liquid proof sealing, which protects the joint from corrosion or dirt. Important when the joint is painted and the thread isn’t protected.
