To my fellow veterinarians, my warmest greetings! Before I decide to become an officer or accept a position that requires extra

responsibilities, I first ask myself if I have the three Ts: time, talent and treasure. Having the time means commitment and borrowing time from routine work and family; having the talent means possessing the physical and mental capabilities I can share and contribute to do the job and deliver it well; and having the treasure means some financial dole-outs. Feeling I have these in proportionate manner, I decided to go serve the PVMA!

I started serving the PVMA as a member of the Council on Education in 2003 after the 70th PVMA Annual Convention in Bohol. From then on, it was a journey to the presidency filled with good and enjoyable memories with many ideas shared and learned, colleagues befriended and decisions made. There were many smiles and some laughter and frowns with few tears of joy and probably of weariness. And as I assume my job as President of PVMA, I had always in my mind that the PVMA is first and foremost for the members’ welfare as stated in the Constitution. With this in mind, I had this from the assumption of my position the three-point agenda: veterinarian matters, veterinary profession matters and PVMA administrative matters. However, I would like to include another aspect of a true professional which is the socio-cultural matters - our social and civic responsibility and service to others which are not explicitly mentioned in our Constitution.

As my term of office as your leader will be for just a year, I tried to be realistic. However, with the coming ASEAN 2015 integration, much preparation has to be done to meet the changes and challenges of our times. The ethical issues of professional competence and global competitiveness are right in front of us.

My esteemed colleagues, the PVMA is composed of all of us. The PVMA is not just the 11 National Officers. It consists of the chapters and affiliates. The PVMA is also YOU, one of the more than 8,000 licensed veterinarians. We, the officers whom you have entrusted are your guide. With the unwavering support to me by and the teamwork of the PVMA National Board and Officers, and especially your support and trust, we can work out to make the Filipino veterinarian a global veterinarian..
