We Bring Behavioral Healthcare Closer to Home

Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare

In Atlanta, most mental health programs are concentrated around the psychiatric hospitals or located in the city. Many clients and families find getting treatment difficult due to distance, traffic congestion, and busy family lives. These barriers can lead to delaying treatment, dropping out of treatment, or more difficulty following continuing care plans, impacting treatment outcomes or resulting in overall dissatisfaction with the treatment experience. Medical healthcare services, such as rehabilitation centers, laboratories, and physical therapy are readily available in the local community. Shouldn’t mental healthcare services be just as easily accessible?

Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare brings services to the community making them more accessible and more feasible for the client and family, whether as an opportunity for early intervention or when transitioning from a higher level-of-care. Being closer to home bridges the gap between existing outpatient providers and the program for improved continuity-of-care and offers the client and family a better opportunity to engage in treatment to support the healing process of the family system.

Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare (PFBH) offers Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) that serve adolescents and adults who suffer with Mood and Anxiety Disorders, such as Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, ADHD, and other common behavioral health conditions.

We are committed to meeting the needs of clients and their families by providing exceptional clinical services that are evidence-based and offered in an environment conducive to healing. Our program emphasizes clinical acumen, professionalism, skillful negotiation of the behavioral health continuum of care, a scholarly approach to clinical practice, and using performance measures to continuously improve program effectiveness.

At the heart of Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare is compassion - the desire to alleviate suffering. Compassion is a fundamental value at Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare, providing empathy, kindness, acceptance, and warmth in understanding another person’s suffering, a willingness to help and to promote the well-being of that person - all to support the process towards healing.

Dedicated to Clinical Excellence and Compassionate Care

About Pyramid Healthcare

At Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare, our treatment philosophy is a clinically integrated program that offers a client-centered, insight-oriented, trauma-informed, strength-based, and family-systems approach that provides comprehensive treatment services with the goal of fostering intrinsic change within our clients.

The program’s foundational clinical orientation is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The goal of our program is to help the client begin to develop and increase the ability to adapt to the human experience, cultivate skill sets to overcome life’s adversities, understand the importance of balance among life domains, and support our client’s understanding of and commitment to behaviors that are aligned with the client’s own values.

Our model is trans-diagnostic across conditions, providing treatment for the whole person rather than addressing one specific issue or cluster of symptoms. Our program targets the client’s mood, thoughts, dynamics associated with forming meaningful relationships, and physical response to managing distress.

Our psychiatric team consists of a board certified psychiatrist and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who supervises the clinical treatment program in addition to providing an initial psychiatric evaluation and ongoing medication management.

Experiential Groups and Approaches

Our process groups offer a safe and supportive environment to share and explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences while receiving support, encouragement, understanding, and acceptance from group members and the facilitating therapist.

These groups provide new information that can empower us in understanding parts of our struggle and enhance our ability to achieve therapeutic change.

These group modules are based on the six constructs of ACT to support the client in understanding and gaining insight into the root causes of distorted thoughts and beliefs, encourage psychological flexibility and adaptability, promote balance across life domains, and understand committed action to the client’s values.

Experiential groups include mindfulness and skill development to remain in the present moment, mind/body activities, relaxation strategies, interpersonal skills practice through role-play, art and creative expression, journaling, communication and active listening skills, and assertiveness training.

Adolescent Program

Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare offers an adolescent Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), combined with individual and family therapy, serving 13-17 year olds providing a continuum of care that allows PFBH to meet clinical needs as the process of change unfolds.

Our program is designed to deliver content that is age appropriate and recognizes the unique characteristics of adolescence at this stage of development. The program accounts for ongoing physical development, differences in their values and belief systems, environmental considerations, such as strong peer influences, identity development, and academic issues – all of which dominate the adolescent experience.

With these characteristics in mind, our program uses a broad range of modalities to engage the adolescent, focusing less on lecture formats that demand longer attention spans and more on group participation and activity-based approaches. Adolescents are also always part of a larger family unit, so our program emphasizes family involvement as playing a critical role in the success of treatment.

Adult Program

Family Program

Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare offers an adult Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) combined with individual and family therapy that serves clients 18 years old and older. Clients can enter the continuum of care at any point and move about as needs dictate and treatment goals are met.

Our program promotes intrinsic change through self-reflection, self-analysis, and improved insight into the client’s own sense of the conceptualized self. The program design encourages growth in flexibility within the human experience and a commitment towards self-directed values. Our program is a meaningful combination of conceptual work, behavioral change, and the development of mindfulness techniques. Clients will be able to build a more meaningful and connected life through a deeper understanding of self, expanded skills, and enhanced use of both internal and external resources.

Primary Focus

We believe that the family plays an essential role in a client’s development and life. By integrating family support with the client’s treatment goals, treatment becomes a partnership in achieving well-being within the family system. Family may consist of parents, a spouse, children, a significant other, or anyone whom the client identifies as an essential member of their support system.

Our goals of the family program are to promote empathy, increase understanding, improve communication, and empower the family system to support the client. Our clinical orientation is Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) combined with psychoeducation and process-oriented groups as a foundation to build that support. The program also assists those who attend the Family Program to increase their understanding of how their own life experiences may influence their repertoire of parenting or their formation of family bonds.

Continuing Care Planning

Alumni Association

This step in treatment starts shortly after admission and is refined throughout the treatment process. Continuing care planning is essential in order to build upon the successes gained while in treatment, just as any medical condition requires some amount of ongoing care. The Continuing Care Plan includes identifying or returning to ongoing care providers, contingency planning and goals to work on post-treatment.

We provide a connection to others that builds wellness and inspires hope. The Alumni Association is here to offer support and build a community of ongoing encouragement and healing as part of a Continuing Care Plan for clients and their families who have attended Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare. The goals of our alumni association are to offer a bridge of support from treatment to the return to normal daily activities, give and receive support, solidify skill building, educational opportunities, and community activism – all to support healthy socialization with others who share the common goal of achieving long-term wellness.

Weekly Family Therapy Sessions

Weekly Family Workshop

Bi-Weekly Family Engagement

Family therapy is a type of counseling session that acts as a catalyst to nurture change and development within the family system. These sessions emphasize family relationships as an important factor in psychological health.

Our weekly family workshop focuses on improving communication, enhancing the bonds within the family system, improving understanding and empathy, and emphasizing that treatment is a partnership among all family members.

In collaboration with the treatment team, the treatment plan review process allows the family and the client to have a primary decision-making role in facilitating change by setting goals, measuring progress, promoting accountability, and planning what comes next.

Assessment Center

Assessment Process

Navigating the behavioral health landscape can be challenging and overwhelming. It often takes families an unnecessary amount of time to receive an appropriate diagnosis and treatment, during which time the condition may continue to worsen.

To meet this need, Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare created The Assessment Center to provide clinical, medical, and educational providers, clients, and families with the clarity and guidance they need on the wide variety of behavioral health issues that families are facing today. Our Assessment Center can pinpoint clinical needs, determine the appropriate level-of-care, and identify treatment options for adolescents and adults with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, eating disorders, and other common behavioral health conditions.

The confidential assessment is conducted in an interview format with the client while collateral information is gathered from the family and any existing treatment providers, when available. A psychosocial history is completed and supplemental screening tools may be administered as a part of the assessment.

The assessment will identify the immediate clinical needs based on the information gathered. The appropriate level-of-care can then be determined along with the clinical issues that are preventing the client from returning to a state of equilibrium and well-being.

The Assessment Center can help narrow treatment options so clients, families, and providers can make informed decisions about what solutions may best suit their circumstance. The Assessment Coordinator will also assist the client and family in connecting with a behavioral health provider who can support the next step in getting the help that is needed.

Community Integration & Collaborative Care

Pyramid Family Behavioral Healthcare believes in bringing treatment closer to home.

Through our Community Events, we strive to be a valued member of the community by being a resource to those in need, providing community education, and working to reduce the stigma associated with behavioral health conditions.

One of our core values is to provide collaborative care by bridging the gap between existing community providers and our client’s treatment. This improves continuity-of-care and builds upon skills learned in treatment.

As a teaching institution, we support the professional development of emerging clinical professionals while providing continuing education to the local area professional community.
