For over a century, Lone Mountain Ranch has been a symbol of the American West. Since the ranch was first homesteaded in 1915, Lone Mountain has participated in the exploration and preservation of Yellowstone National Park, the formation of the town of Big Sky, and the evolution of ranching and logging in the Northern Rockies. Here in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, often called “the Serengeti of North America,” our cabins sit under a boundless sky and close to Yellowstone’s big five—bears, elk, bison, moose, and wolves. Stay in one of our 23 private log cabins and two private homes with all the elevated comforts of home (including a grand log home with six bedrooms) on our 148 acres of untamed wilderness. Our ranch hands, expert guides, and chefs live and breathe this landscape, and can’t wait to show you the real Montana.

STAYAWHILE

Our 23 historic cabins and two private log homes are all constructed using locally sourced timber and are spread across the heart of our 148-acre ranch. Some are set along the banks of the North Fork Creek and many feature views of the spectacular Rockies that surround us. You’ll feel as though you’ve entered another time (we keep technology out of sight to honor our setting), but we haven’t held back on great Wi-fi.

For those planning multigenerational or group travel, our Ridgetop Lodge, a six bedroom cabin with stunning mountain views, a hot tub and game room, accommodates up to 18 guests.

Montana grass-fed beef, crispy-skin trout, smoked local elk meatballs in guajillo tomato sauce: Our ingredients, grown locally and sourced from Montana purveyors, are the stars of Horn & Cantle’s menu. The other star, of course, is the restaurant itself. We created Horn & Cantle to give our guests a sense of Montana at its most elevated. Whether you have spent your day skiing, hiking our trails, fishing trout streams, or even dogsledding, we welcome you to settle in by our roaring fireplaces and talk about your adventures over Chef Eric Gruber’s cuisine. Our food, as much as our incredible locale, tells the story of this place we’re fortunate enough to call home.

Our vintage Western saloon is our guests’ favorite place to warm up with a cocktail and appetizer prior to dinner in our main dining room. Try a local whiskey flight or stick to Lone Mountain classics like our Big Sky Bramble (Big Horn bourbon, lemon, and cranberry compote). Or play it casual and make a meal of our smoked Montana trout, famous H & C Burger (Yellowstone grass-fed beef with caramelized onions and Kennebec fries) and cedar plank mushrooms with local goat cheese.

OUTDOOR YOUTH ADVENTURE PROGRAMKids have always been a part of ranch life here, and our Outdoor Youth Adventures Program will introduce yours to a little taste of the ‘great wide open’ while they make friends that often last well beyond your stay.

Our youth programs, available June-August, build confidence through outdoor recreation and help kids develop an appreciation for nature in our incredible surroundings. Children are grouped by age: Cubs (3-7), Wolves, (8-11) and Grizzlies (12-14).

Kind and energetic staff take kids horseback riding, canoeing, through ropes courses, and on spectacular hikes, all geared to entertain and challenge them.

RETREAT WITHIN A RETREATLone Mountain Ranch hosts 4 retreats each year. If you have a smaller group, you may wish to take over one of our private houses and join the pre-planned activities. We can also customize any of these itineraries for a full buyout. Join us for our annual Adult Week at the ranch.

Our week-long adult camp is geared toward couples, singles, or groups that just want to let loose and have a great time in a festive environment against the backdrop of Big Sky. We’ll take wine and cheese picnics on horseback adventures, enjoy wine pairing dinners, and a cast iron cooking and whiskey-paired dinner. Evenings end with comedy night in the B-K cabin, and a Saturday night Octoberfest-themed party.

Our picturesque setting is the ideal place for slowing down and recharging. During our Renew Week, you’ll dive deep into meditation and breathwork in classes ranging in intensity from deeply healing and restorative to energetic. Guests of the retreat enjoy all the ranch has to offer, including Horn & Cantle, where chef Eric Gruber has crafted vegetarian and vegan options along with classic frontier fare.

Join us for our annual TASTE at LMR—a feast of food, spirits and music. We love a good glass of wine, a local beer or whiskey, and an incredible meal outdoors. Our friends from local wineries, breweries and distilleries join us for a fun-filled weekend of culinary events. In the evening, enjoy live music under the stars while our chef prepares an epic BBQ. While you are enjoying our culinary weekend, don’t forget to take a horseback ride, learn to f ly fish, or tour Yellowstone National Park with one of our naturalist guides.
