Dear Friends of the College,

Every year we challenge ourselves to reach higher and respond to the needs in our community. Whether it’s for our students, our workforce or our team, we continue to focus on transforming lives.

This year we saw lots of success through the transformation of lives in our graduates. We continue to inspire our students through the dynamic speakers and networking sessions we offer with employers in our community. We are creative through our offerings of state-of-the-art learning facilities that allow our students to grow. We continue to be innovative through partnerships with corporations to bring national programs to our local community. We are supportive in the communities we serve through philanthropy and giving of our time. And finally, we are delivering an educated and skilled workforce that is ready to make its mark on the economic, cultural and social fabric of our community.

WE ARE Transformative. WE ARE Inspiring.The Florida Department of Education recognized students Natascha Kehri, above, and CJ Adams with the Commissioner’s Leadership Award at the State Board of Education meeting held October 2018 in Crystal River. Kehri was a student in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Organizational Management program at the Ocala Campus and served as graduation speaker in December, sharing her story with the more than 1,000

graduates. During her last semester at CF, she completed an internship with what was then Front Street Realty, a local company, while also working toward her real estate license. She made such an impression that her supervisor hired her before she graduated. Adams, from the Citrus Campus, is enrolled in the Associate in Arts program and is completing prerequisites for the nursing program.

CF’s Business, Technology and Career and Technical Education Department hosted several events to help students network with Marion County’s top employers. In October, Doug Cone, above, CEO of Cone Distributing, spoke to more than 135 students, faculty and staff on how to learn from your mistakes and how changing careers can be beneficial. “The Future is IT,” also in October, had 195 attendees. “Stay Local” in November

focused on local career opportunities and brought 162 potential students to campus. “Crunching the Numbers,” which focused on accounting careers, brought in 173. In addition, the CF Foundation hosted Bernadette Castro, who shared “It’s Okay to Change Your Dream” with more than 175 current and potential students. Through many and varied speakers, CF is inspiring students and connecting them with potential employers.

WE ARE Creative. WE ARE Innovative.CF celebrated the grand reopening of the Clifford B. Stearns Learning Resources Center in March. The first floor of the LRC now contains an open collaborative learning commons, an information desk, a mindfulness room, a conference room, Cliff’s Cyber Café with extended hours, and comfortable and functional furniture - including the ability to charge devices in as many places as possible. All of this joins the Learning Support Center with

free tutoring including the Writing Lab and the Anatomy and Physiology Lab, an open 56-seat computer lab, the Special Collections room, and the library instruction classroom on the first floor. Upstairs is the library, including the circulation and reference desks, group study rooms, individual study spaces and 18 additional computers. The renovation supports student engagement and success by creating a collaborative learning environment.

The College of Central Florida was approved by FANUC America Corporation earlier this year as a FANUC Authorized Satellite Training Academic Institution, offering HandlingTool and 2D iRVision through the world leader in robotics. CF has offered credit and noncredit courses in robotics as part of its engineering programs for several years, and this new designation has enhanced robotics courses even further.

The FAST designation from FANUC allows machine operators, programmers, maintenance professionals and machine tool builders to receive a certificate of completion from the only FANUC Authorized Satellite Training Center in Florida. The college is taking the lead in bringing innovative technologies to the businesses and organizations in the communities that we serve.

WE ARE Supportive. WE ARE Skilled.CF employees continue to support the community through a variety of volunteer and fundraising activities. In October, faculty, staff and students participated in a schoolwide read-in with College Park Elementary School, CF’s elementary school partner. In November, the CF family served a pre-Thanksgiving lunch to residents of Evangeline Booth Garden Apartments, a Salvation Army residence, and the team returned in

February to wash cars, do light house cleaning, play games and enjoy fellowship during United Way’s Day of Caring. The CF family also provides fundraising support for our community’s needs, raising more than $11,000 for United Ways in Citrus and Marion County, and $4,500 for the American Heart Association.

In May, CF celebrated our students with two graduation ceremonies, conferring 1,836 certificates and degrees. Among the group were nine students who earned an Associate in Science in Radiography. They were the first cohort in the program, which was recently accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. CF was also recognized by the website RNCareers.org among the top 10 nursing programs in

Florida and one of the best in the nation. The website evaluated 1,892 Registered Nurse programs on a number of factors important to nursing students including first-time passing rates on the licensure examination, accreditation, program offerings, cost, graduation rate and institutional ranking. CF ranked ninth with a score of 93.49 percent for best Associate Degree in Nursing.
