We
Are
Learning
To
• Understand symmetry;• use a template;• work accurately to a line
This is because…
When making products we often need to make patterns that are the same shape on each side of a centre line.
We can use patterns or templates to make copies from other materials.
Remember to:
Cut and work as accurately to the template or line and at all times leave the line on!
Symmetry
Template
Success Criteria!
WILF: What I’m Looking For?
We will be able to: -
1.Sketch a simplistic profile / shape of template
2.Cut-out the template accurately ‘leaving lines ‘on’
3.File accurately leaving ‘all lines-on’
4.Work to a critical dimension/tolerance +/-
5.Produce a quality finish on the edge ‘no file marks’
Theme: Lady Birds & Butterflies
Planning for quality outcomes / teaching Strategies that develop:-
• Design skills / ‘Thinking skills’;• Manufacturing skills / quality experiences;• Graphical skills;• Understanding of the electrical Systems.
Planning for quality outcomes / teaching Strategies that develop:- Design skillsIn your groups/pairs discuss and show:-
• An alternative symmetrical profile shape/template; • how the motor is attached to the body;• how the switch is attached?• How will we get the bug to ‘jitter’/vibrate?
Planning for quality outcomes / teaching Strategies that develop:-In your groups/pairs discuss and evaluate:-
• each others finished product against the mark indicators/descriptors.

a) Show how the motor is attached to the body;
b) Show how the switch is attached?

Points to consider:
• Is the project appropriate to the age group?• Skills development / Assessment? • Pupils skills and capabilities;• Manufacturing – aids?• Constraints - Internal radii, cost….
