July 12, 2020 / 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time It goes without saying that most people would rather feed their first-born to an alligator than listen to a boring homily. When an assembly is bored, its obvious from their body language. If a sermon starts off with a theoretical or abstract statement, attention is lost like a radio station falling out of range. On the other hand, when a preacher begins with a story that those in the pews can easily connect with, the people will relax, settle in, and pay attention. So today, we hear Jesus begin with a story about sowers and seeds, a topic very familiar to his listeners. Isaiah had learned quickly that if he jumped right into harsh condemnations, no one would listen to him for a very long time. So in todays First Reading, he opens with comparing Gods word to rain and snow, which softens and saturates the earth so it can cultivate produce and vegetation. Isaiah says when this happens, Gods word does not return to Him void, but achieves the end for which it was sent.If Jesus were here today, hed probably talk about parents working from home overseeing their kids in remote learning, or perhaps hed talk about a frequent flyer standing in a homeland security line at the airport. He might mention a ball player who has to make a decision whether to play ball this year or stay home for the safety of his family. He would certainly help people understand these stories with frames of references they can relate to. And when you think about it, its a matter of life or death. Fr. into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through Word, Worship, and Outreach.

July 12, 2020 / 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

It goes without saying that most people would rather feed their first-born to an alligator than listen to a boring homily. When an assembly is bored, it’s obvious from their body language.

So in today’s First Reading, he opens with comparing God’s word to rain and snow, which softens and saturates the earth so it can cultivate produce and vegetation. Isaiah says when this happens, God’s word does not return to Him void, but “achieves the end for which it was sent.”

If Jesus were here today, he’d probably talk about parents working from home overseeing their kids in remote learning, or perhaps he’d talk about a frequent flyer standing in a homeland security line at the airport. He might mention a ball player who has to make a decision whether to play ball this year or stay home for the safety of his family. He would certainly help people understand these stories with frames of references they can relate to. And when you think about it, it’s a matter of life or death.

Fr. Bob

During this pandemic, the demands on our Food Pantry have increased substantially. If you are able to help, we have a gray bin just outside of the back doors to the

parish center into which you may place your donations. Many of you have responded and we appreciate your generosity! Please check the expiration dates, we are unable to distribute expired food. Thank you!

ALL WOMEN who would like to grow in faith and in their relationship with God and one another are invited to join us online! Weekly participation is not required - join us when you can! We have two faith sharing groups which connect weekly:

* Tuesdays at 12:15PM, email Patty at [email protected]

* Thursdays at 7:30AM, email Kathleen at [email protected]

Groups meet via Zoom, a teleconferencing platform. Not a tech whiz? Don't let that stop you! It's easy and we can help.
