Welcome to our 2014/15 WCNS Benefit! A huge thank you to Liz Otto and Christine Keich who have been working since early last summer to make sure everything was in place for tonight. Thank you also to their Benefits Committee of Laura Geiger, Jenn Miller, Julie Bertocchi and Sue DeThomas. It is a big job and we appreciate all you have done. Thank you also goes to the families, staff and various businesses for their contributions to the auction. Our fundraising year began with Grocery Dollars and the Annual Fund Drive. Now we want everyone to come out for an evening of fun as we reconnect with one another and celebrate the growth your children have made this year. WCNS is in its 54th year of partnering with young families of Wilmette and the surrounding communities. While many changes have taken place in our world since 1961 when WCNS began, the basic nature and needs of young children have remained the same. Our play based approach to learning is as relevant now as it was more than 54 years ago. As the caregivers of young children, parents and teachers need to protect and promote the precious, carefree childhood of little ones today. We must allow them to grow and develop in age appropriate ways while creating meaningful memories for their tomorrows. Despite what you may be thinking when you write out the tuition checks, these payments do not cover the operating costs of our basic programs. Since the recession, the enrollment in area preschools has declined while costs have continued to rise. As a result, the success of tonight’s fundraiser is critical to the financial well-being of the School. To maintain the level of excellence we all expect, we must find additional funding to pay for needed “extras” such as:

• Updated materials for the classrooms, a new riding path and equipment • Professional development opportunities to keep our approaches on the cutting edge of

early childhood programs • Programs that directly touch the children such as the music enrichment curriculum that

Cindy Ulrich implements or story tellers for PJ Night in April • Membership in the Winnetka Alliance that allows us to take part in the larger community

activities such as Screen Break and speakers on topics relevant to young families

We realize that it is a difficult time economically for many people. For this reason, we ask that all families in the WCNS community help support our school to the extent possible. Many of the activities your children enjoy have come from the generosity of past families. Please help make our fundraiser a big success for future families by bidding on the terrific items our benefits committee has put together. Thank you so much, Kerry Russell
