    Marijke MorichWe will be using special plastic encing weapons with buzzing tips to allow or easier controand increased saety. is class provides a great environment or kids to do one o the thingsthey enjoy most-play with swords! Students will learn basic en garde position, advance andretreats, salute, lunge, extend, beat attack and parry riposte. We will talk about target areaand basic rules o encing. In addition to Olympic style encing we will also use the weaponsor more dramatic war games pitting two teams against each other in an attacking melee.is class will use games to develop speed, reaction time and balance.     MEET OUR YOUTH ATHLETICS INSTRUCTOR

    Chris Beacom is the President o Illinois Baseball Academy. As a ormer New Trier Head Coach, Chris has been teaching kids o all ages anability levels how to play baseball or the past 20 years. Prior to coaching, Chris captained the Northwestern University team and then playproessionally in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. In addition to Coach Beacom, Illinois Baseball Academy employs some o the most acomplished and dynamic coaches on the North Shore, many with college and proessional playing experience.

    Hot Shots Sports is a private organization that develops and organizes youth athletic programming. Hot Shots Sports programs stress th

    pure enjoyment o being involved in athletics and ofers the opportunity or children to develop their skills in an environment where everyoplays and reward is given or the efort rather than the result. Participants learn to have respect or each other on and of the court. Hot ShoSports was ounded in 1994 and continues to provide athletic programming in New York City, Denver and Chicago.

    Hoops4Health is a newly ounded organization whose aim is to better the lives o its students. Our goal is to make a positive impact on youby providing them a un learning experience in the sport o basketball as well as teaching them how to live a healthy liestyle of the court. Wcater to kids o all ages and skill levels. Our our keys are mind, body, nutrition and discipline. We ofer a wide range o programs includibasketball camps/clinics, nutrition classes, Tai-chi, Kung-Fu, AAU basketball travel teams, and more.     FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD GRADEYOUTH BASKETBALL HOUSE LEAGUE

    I you have a rst through third grade boy or girl interested in playing basketball against other area players without the hassle o travel-ing to a diferent location or every game, this program is or them. Participants will learn undamental skills through weekly practice andgames. Adult volunteers coach all teams. First grade games will have youth size basketballs and eight oot basketball rims. ird gradegames will have adult size basketballs, 9 oot basketball rims and score will be kept. All games will have staf reerees and timekeepers. Allparticipants will receive a team t-shirt and commemorative basketball.1.     KARATEAbout Our Karate Programe Winnetka Karate Program ollows a systematized belt ranking or all its participants. Traditional Karate is a martial art which emphasizethe principles and applications o weaponless sel-deense.

    Belt Rankinge Winnetka Karate Program ollows a systemized belt ranking or all participants. ere are 11 belt levels (kyu) beore rst-degree black bel

    (shodan). A new student is assigned the white belt rank (eleventh kyu). One must ulll certain requirements under normal practice conditionand in a test environment to secure progressive promotions up to and including the black belt (dan) levels. When one has acquired a stronoundation in the undamentals o Karate, he or she can be promoted to the rank o rst degree black belt.The following items are optional and will incur additional costs: uniforms, belt tests and tournaments.

    Pee Wee KarateStudents learn how to control their energy levels and concentration through study o undamental Karate principles. Participants will learn hoto ollow instructions and exercise sel control in a un and exciting environment.

    Beginner Karate Iis is an introduction to Karate. No experience is necessary. (Beginner to Orange Belt/White Stripe)

    MEET OUR KARATE INSTRUCTORS

    Frank Chrzanowski, chief instructor, developed the Traditional Karate Program for the Winnetka Community House in 1989. He has trained in Karate since 1975 and has attained the rank of fourth degree black belt in the Japan Karate Association. He has been featured in articles in the ChicagTribune, the Sun Times and the Pioneer Press, and has appeared on local and national television programs.

    Ron Stein has trained in karate since 1981 and is a third degree black belt in the Japan Karate Association. His karate experience extends to Europand Japan, where he lived for four years, training under many instructors and studying various Japanese martial arts. His karate teaching experiencincludes e University of Chicago, e University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the United States Marine Corps in Tokyo. He has been withthe Winnetka Community House Karate Program since 1994.

    TAEKWONDOTaekwondo, one o the newest Olympic sports, is a 2000-year-old martial art, ofering a variety o benets or people o all ages and physicalabilities.     Master Shi Heng Long is a decorated kung-Fu and Tai-Chi Master. He has taught in many dierent provinces in China including Bejing, Shanghai, Hebei, Shangdong, and Guangzhou. After coming to the USA in 2007 hes taught at e Chicago Shaolin Temple, Health Kick Kung-Fand Energy Fitness. In 2009 he taught at e Shaolin Temple Overseas Headquarters in New York and O-Mei Shaolin Kung-Fu in WashingtoDC. He has studied martial arts since the age of eight at the Shaolin Temple in China.

    You may know Kung-Fu because o Bruce Lee. However, it actually dated back thousands o years beore him. It is an ancient Chinesmartial art that brings sel deense, condence, discipline and conditioning to its students. We will teach Northern and Southern styles wit
