Principal’s Message
Do you know our school rules? There are only three and they are
really quite easy to remember.
Work Hard. Be Kind. Show Respect.
This is my eleventh year at WCCS and these rules were established before my
time. I wonder if these verses in Colossians (see Shining Light to the left) helped
to shape these rules. Kindness is a word I think everyone is familiar with, yet it is
also a word that is often not used in our vocabulary. Kindness is listed as one of
the fruits of the spirit, yet it seems to encompass so many Christian character
traits.
As I have reflected on this passage this term, I have also reflected on some of my
teachers from school and the impact they had upon me. One teacher I remember
well was my Geography teacher. She had a huge impact on my love for Geography
and my desire to continue studying it at University. Interestingly, ten years after I
had left school, I was working part-time at Koorong Bookstore. I met a young guy
straight out of school who was studying to be a Geography teacher. As we
chatted, I asked what had inspired this career choice, to which he responded by
telling me about the wonderful Geography teacher he had at school. I was
surprised to discover that he attended the same High School as I did, but it came
as no surprise when I guessed the teacher’s name.
As we reflected on our time at school, one thing was obvious; this teacher had
impacted both our lives. What was it about her? Kind is certainly a word that I
would use to describe her. Patience, going the extra mile, believing in you, clear
boundaries and fun are just some of the outworking's of her kindness.
God calls us to clothe ourselves with kindness. Is kindness a term people would
use to describe you? Sadly, we live in a world where kindness is often lacking and
has been replaced by self-centredness and greed. Being part of a community
where people value and display kindness is an incredible blessing. I hope when
people come into our community they are struck by kindness.
God bless,
Ian Liney

OUR MISSION
To provide a Christian
educational community
founded on Biblically
based beliefs, values and
behaviour.
We do this to equip

Lord Jesus Christ.
SHINING LIGHT
Therefore, as God’s
chosen people, holy and
dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with
compassion, kindness,
humility, gentleness and
patience. Bear with
each other and forgive
whatever grievances
you may have against
one another. Forgive as
the Lord forgave you.
And over all these
virtues put on love,
which binds them all
together in perfect
unity .

missed it last year.
Grandparents’ Morning Our Junior School Grandparents’ Morning will be held on Friday, 17th March.
Grandparents are welcome to join us for Junior School Chapel starting at 9am in
the Multi-Purpose Centre. Afterwards, grandparents will be able to spend some

Opal Cards - Important Reminder for Students to Tap On
Please remind your child of the importance of ‘tapping on’ their Opal Cards when
they get on a school bus. Bus companies gather data from Opal Cards such as the
number of students on each bus. If the bus companies can see that there is a
demand for a particular service (i.e. full buses), it aids in our requests for
additional services. If students don’t ‘tap on’, it may appear that a current bus
service is sufficient, when in fact it may not be. Please pass this information on to
your child/ren if they catch a school bus.
WOOSH - Wyong Baptist Out of School Hours Care

other areas of our school.
Pray for our five sponsor children whom we have the blessing of partnering with through Compassion

they may grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Prayer Points
Recently our Years 11 and 12 Drama students had the opportunity to attend Onstage performances at the Seymour Centre. Onstage is a compilation of the best 2016 HSC performances. The students enjoyed the individual and group performances, and also looked for inspiration in the costume and set design. It was a great night that the students thoroughly enjoyed. Junior School News No surprises that the Years 5 & 6 Camp was totally amazing. The teachers, parent helpers and camp staff were so proud of our blossoming disciples. We had two nights of amazing worship and inspirational messages from Pastor Kirsten Long. Our theme song became The King Of My Heart from Bethel, and the lyrics of the bridge and chorus echoed around the activities as the kids set and met personal achievement goals – You’re never gonna let, never gonna let me down… because You are Good, Good, Oh Oh. One of the absolute blessings of camp is seeing the kids cry out to God for courage and then see them walk through their fears as God hears their cries and gives them strength. Thanks to Coco, Ellie, Eva and Issy for all of their wonderful song leading during our worship time. Thank you also to Mrs Nolan for stepping into our camp nurse role. It was also wonderful to have Mr Creanor with us on camp again. Mr Isaac Creanor that is; he is almost as awesome as his father and much less terrifying. ;-) I promised Michelle that I would include this victorious image in our newsletter because it took her three terrified attempts to achieve her goal to trust God for protection and conquer the high ropes. I am looking forward to the life challenges that Michelle will conquer in the future as she serves our wonderful God. The wonderful Mrs Ormsby is heading up Pulse this year on a Thursday afternoon after lunch. Miss Simes has her hands full with Kindergarten this year so Mrs Ormsby is flying solo in Primary. The focus of Pulse will be singing. Our dancers will not miss out because Mrs Ormsby is putting together some senior student helpers to assist her with a Dance Troop on Mondays at lunchtime. We are already excited about the upcoming musical items prepared for our young performers. Our Zone swimmers head out to Newcastle this week (Tuesday, 28th February) with Mr Knibbs and Mr Watts-Thomas. We will be praying for safety and God honouring competition for our little aquatic legends. The Junior School Leader speeches were conducted this week and they were simply amazing. What an outstanding group of leaders we have in Year 6 this year. It never ceases to amaze me how much the students step up into their leadership roles in Year 6. What a blessing. The leaders of each portfolio will attend the Halogen Young Leaders Day Conference this week on Friday, 3rd March at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. Mrs Brown has the honour of escorting our Junior School Leaders on their first official duty. We will be praying for safety, inspiration and courage for our young leaders as they take up the mantle of leadership in our Junior School. Chat soon, God bless. Assessment Tasks Due Assessment Booklets Assessment Booklets are a vital planning tool for our Middle School students. They plan out the year indicating when the students will need to be prepared for their Assessment Tasks. The booklets also include important information regarding assessments, and answer many questions families may have. We strongly encourage our families to become familiar with the details of the assessment policy, so that school and homes are working together. Year 9 students received a copy of their Assessment Booklet last week. Year 7 and 8 students will receive their booklets this week. Electronic copies will also be available on the Middle School Canvas page, under the appropriate year group pages. Year 8 Hike – Week 8 (Wednesday, 22nd – Friday, 24th March) Thank you to all the families that came to the Year 8 Hike Information Evening. We also understand that some families had other commitments and could not attend. Please be aware that Permission Notes for this event were due back last Friday. Knowing the number of students attending helps us immensely with our planning. Year 7 Immunisations Year 7 will have their immunisations on the morning of Tuesday, 14th March. Information Packs and Permissions Notes have been sent home with students. Those students receiving immunisations at school need to return their Permission Note prior to Tuesday, 14th March. Any further information should be directed to Central Coast Health. Their phone number can be found on the bottom of the Permission Note. Mr Stephen Moody | Head of Middle School | [email protected]

Senior School News It’s been a busy few weeks for Senior School as the students get into the routine of lessons and confirm their patterns of study. All students in Years 10–12 have now received their Assessment Booklets for 2017. This is a very important document which outlines all the assessments that students will be required to complete for each of their subjects. It also explains the policies and procedures the school implements to ensure that we have a fair and equitable process for everyone and that we are compliant with NESA requirements. Upon distribution of the booklets students were reminded that assessment dates do not change, so it is important that they organise their time and external events in their life to accommodate all their assessments. Year 12 students are busy working hard to stay on top of their subjects, recognising that their Half-Yearly Examinations are only five weeks away. They will receive the timetable for these exams in three weeks’ time, but should already be working on unit summaries, past questions and study notes. The subject choices for Year 11 have now all been finalised with some students choosing to utilise options of studying online or through distance education as part of their course of study. Students often talk about the significant jump in workload and expectation once they arrive in Stage 6. It is really important that they develop the skill of working consistently and not allow themselves to fall behind in their work lest the challenges of getting back up to date become overwhelming. Even though we are still early in the year, it is a good time for Year 10 to be considering what work experience they will engage in. This year, we have made a change and placed work experience during Week 5 of Term 2. This was done to allow the students to have experiences that may inform their choices of subjects for 2018. Now is the time to commence making enquiries about possible employers who would be prepared to take you on for the week. Should you have any enquiries about work experience then Mrs Stein, our wonderful Careers Advisor, would be the person to speak with. In my last newsletter article, I mentioned the story of Mary and Martha and the dangers of always prioritising work over spending time with our God. Following on from that challenge I find is the temptation that I can do all things under my own strength and that I don’t need the help of others. I know in my own life there have been many occasions when God has shown me that this is not the case and that I should always be reliant on him. I found the words of Dr Kenneth Boa helpful in this regard:
In C.S. Lewis’ Prince Caspian, a child named Lucy encounters Aslan, the Christ-figure of the Narnia stories, after not seeing him for a long while. “Aslan, you’re bigger,” she says.
“That is because you’re older, little one,” answered he.
“Not because you are?”
“I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”
The more mature in the faith we are, the bigger God will be for us. As our vision of God becomes clearer and we understand his enormity, we learn to rest in him. We grow in our ability to depend completely on him and know that with a God as competent as the God we find in the pages of Scripture, the universe in which we find ourselves is truly a safe place for us.
You can read the full article here: https://bible.org/seriespage/4-dependence-god I pray that through the challenges our Senior School students will face, their understanding and reliance on God will continue to develop and serve them well throughout their whole life.
