News From The School Board In 2017, Wyong Christian Community School celebrated its 25th anniversary with the school community producing the book Lighthouse Reflections: Celebrating 25 years of Christian Education at Wyong Christian Community School ”. This book gave us the opportunity to not only reflect on our school s humble beginnings in 1993, but to also assess where we are today and where we would like to be in the future. In doing so, the Board and the Senior Leadership Team saw that the school had outgrown the original primary school logo. We felt that the school needed a modern, fresh look that complemented our K-12 status and would fit our purpose for the next 25 years, so we embarked on a journey to update our school logo. In 2018, the Board engaged Simmer Studios to commence the rebranding process. To help us with this, a wide selection of staff, students, parents and members of the Wyong Baptist Church community, were invited to participate in a series of focus group discussions. After the designers had gained an insight into our school and our values, these groups were then presented with four logo options to rate in order of preference. From this process, it became apparent that we hadnt quite found a logo that truly reflected our Christian distinctive. So it was back to the drawing board, and the Board and Senior Leadership Team were presented with another two options. After much prayer and discussion, we are pleased to reveal Wyong Christian Community School s new logo and positioning statement. We feel that the Shine through lifepositioning statement reflects the school s original lighthouse concept of being a shining light into the community, but also encapsulates our vision statement of equipping young people to be responsible and responsive disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ for life. We will be rebranding all areas of the school with the new logo for the commencement of 2020. There will be no change to the school uniform other than some minor changes to the piping on the sports shirt and school cap. Commencing with our winter uniform next year, all new uniform stock will carry the new logo. However, uniform items with the current logo will be able to be worn right through to the commencement of 2022 allowing a 2 year changeover. We thank you for partnering with us in this project, and look forward to your continued support as we seek to deliver new and exciting ventures in the future. News From The School Board In 2017, Wyong Christian Community School celebrated its 25th anniversary with the school community producing the book “Lighthouse Reflections: Celebrating 25 years of Christian Education at Wyong Christian Community School”. This book gave us the opportunity to not only reflect on our school’s humble beginnings in 1993, but to also assess where we are today and where we would like to be in the future.

From this process, it became apparent that we hadn’t quite found a logo that truly reflected our Christian distinctive. So it was back to the drawing board, and the Board and Senior Leadership Team were presented with another two options.

After much prayer and discussion, we are pleased to reveal Wyong Christian Community School’s new logo and positioning statement. Greetings friends of Junior School, Swim school is forging ahead nicely. It has been so exciting to see the progress of our beginning swimmers in just one week. We can rest assured now that our most vulnerable students are well equipped for summer water sports. By the end of the week they may be budding Olympians. Summer Sport and HSC Chapel changes are par for the course for Term 4. Sport is now scheduled immediately after Chapel due to the Spring/Summer heat. Due to HSC exams we will also be conducting our Chapel services in the Wyong Baptist Church hall for the next two weeks. Primary assembly is now at 2:30pm in the WBC hall also. The increase in temperature also has an effect on the behaviour of our students in Term 4. The hotter it gets, the kids experience greater discomfort and potentially become less tolerant, gracious and self-controlled. We are currently experiencing a greater degree of inappropriate behaviour in our Primary years. The teachers’ goal in maintaining effective discipline is to keep all of our students safe and ensure their communication is encouraging. I can promise you that we love ALL of our students and always have their best interest at heart. Discipline with fair, consistent boundaries is an appropriate component of Christian love. Our goal is to equip responsive and responsible disciples. We are keen for our Year 6 students to transition well into High School and for our Year 5 students to transition into Junior School leadership, therefore we do expect our Stage 3 students to develop an age appropriate level of maturity in their final years of Junior School. Thank you for your support in this endeavour. MINOR REPORT FORMAT CHANGES FOR TERM 4 You may be aware that our school has moved to a new management system called Sentral. This has allowed us to make some minor modifications to our reports in order to start to align Junior School and High School reporting. The main changes are to our English and Mathematics comments. We will now have three comments regarding Areas Of Strength plus three comments for Areas For Improvement. Hopefully this will give you a snapshot of student progress and goals for future development. Like all reporting, the most efficient method of understanding how your child/ren are progressing is by sitting down with their teacher. We are all very excited about the announcement of our 2020 Musical, Mary Poppins Jr. The first gathering of our budding thespians will be Wednesday 6th November. Our Junior School Cricket stars head out on Friday for the Year 3/4 T20 Cricket Skills Day at Belmont. God bless Chat soon Marksy Mr Paul Marks| Head of Junior School | [email protected] .edu.au

Working Beyond Creative Arts Class

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES Some of our Year 9 students travelled to Covenant Christian School last Friday 25th October to take part in this enrichment day. Ten other schools from across NSW also attended. The students were able to choose electives including Art, Philosophy, Drama, Biblical Studies, Robotics, Coding, The Philosophy of Science and Creative Writing. It was great to see them interact with each other and with students from a variety of schools. SPEAKLIFE PROJECT We are focusing on being good to people for no reason other than it’s the right way to be. As followers of Christ we give and love with no expectations and we do it to demonstrate God’s love in us. We are hopeful that our secondary students this term are recognised for their goodness in all circumstances. Mr Stephen Moody | Head of Secondary - Teaching & Learning | [email protected] Mrs Rachael Wilesmith | Head of Secondary - Student Wellbeing | [email protected] In 2020 we are continuing the Year 7 Working Beyond program with our Creative Arts students. The program is for those of our students who are gifted and/or talented in the areas of Music and Visual Arts. It will run alongside the usual Creative Arts program offered at the school. However, students who show promise in these disciplines will be in a class that offers and encourages working beyond in these areas. Application for selection for the Working Beyond class includes submission of an art portfolio for Art and an audition for Music. More information can be found in the application packs available at the school office and The Space. If you have any questions Mrs Stein and Mrs Samways would love to hear from you! NATIONAL FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIPS During the holidays, 8 students from Secondary School and Junior School competed at the National Futsal Titles in Brisbane. Kaiden K (8s), Joel E, Levi F, Cooper C (10s), Aston M (11s), Keisha C (12 Girls) and Tanaysha C (16 Girls) all represented North NSW Futsal. They had been selected from gala days that WCCS had competed in earlier this year. The teams played three days of round robin competition, with a fourth day of Semi Final and Grand Final. This was the first year that Kaiden had played at the championships, and at only the age of 6 he was playing against kids a full year or more older than him. However, he stepped up and played tremendously well. His team came 5th overall. I had the pleasure of coaching Joel, Levi, Cooper (10s) and Aston’s (11s) teams. The 10s played very well throughout the normal rounds and came 4th in their pool. They qualified for the Quarter Finals. Unfortunately, they lost in a very close game. Aston’s team did really well, however, were on the wrong side of results in a couple of games and unfortunately came 5th in their pool. Although to their credit, in their final game against one of the eventual grand finalists, they actually beat them which was a great effort. Keisha’s team (12 Girls) played well and after three days of competition, they placed 6th overall, so unfortunately did not make the finals. Tanaysha’s team (16 Girls) did extremely well and won most of their games during the pool games. They made it all the way to the Grand Final. However, they were runners up, which was an outstanding achievement. I would like to congratulate all of the students who competed. You did your school proud and played in great spirit. I would also like to thank all the parents who took their children up to the tournament. Mr Dean Knibbs AFL SUPER TOURNAMENT During Term 3, students in Years 3 to 6 played in an AFL Round Robin Tournament for Sport. On the last day of term the two winning teams, The Swans and The Kangaroos, played off in the Grand Final. The Swans defeated The Kangaroos. Then last week, Mr Knibbs and I took both these teams to an AFL Super Tournament at Belmont Christian College. Both teams played five games each, with the Swans winning four and the Kangaroos winning all five. This placed both teams at the top of the ladder for a Wyong verse Wyong Grand Final. The Kangaroos came out on top this time 6-27. Both teams played exceptionally well and in good spirit. Congratulations to The Kangaroos for winning the AFL Super Tournament. Mr Robert Higgins

Attention all ‘musical people’ On Wednesday 6th November (Week 4) from 3:30-4:30pm, we will be meeting in the MPC to dream, sing, pray and chat about all things musical. Please come along ready to be creative. You will need to complete the Mary Poppins Jr. Information & Permission Form on pages 11 and 12 of this Newsletter. Please make this date a priority. If you are unable to come to our first meeting, please email your Mary Poppins Jr. Information & Permission Form, to Mrs Katie Worboys. Auditions will commence in Week 5. Students will be notified via the CANVAS musical page, the digital notice boards and their classroom / homeroom teachers.

During the past weeks, Year 9 Design and Technology have been designing and creating clocks. The Design Brief required that the students needed to incorporate a recycled product (upcycling). Some of the designs incorporated bike parts, tin cans, books, vinyl records, and skateboards and scooter parts. As you can see there are many creative designers in this class.
