2015‐2016 Faculty Profile Highlights

• Wayne State employs 1,677 full-time faculty members serving in 14 of the university’s colleges or divisions.

• The racial composition of the faculty is 67% White (n = 1,127), 22% Asian (n = 370), 7% Black (n = 112), and 2% Latino (n = 39). 1

• 41% are female (n = 691); 59% are male (n = 986). • 44% of the faculty are tenured (n = 733), 14% are on the tenure track (n = 232), and 42% neither

have tenure nor are on the tenure track (n = 712).

• Of the female faculty, 31% (n = 214) have tenure; whereas 53% (n = 519) of male faculty members are tenured.

• The average age of a faculty member is 52.

• 25% of faculty are age 62 or older.

• The College of Engineering, School of Social Work and School of Medicine have the most racially diverse faculty.

• Wayne State employs 64 international faculty members (not U.S. citizens or permanent

residents).

• All tenured faculty at WSU are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

• Wayne State hired a total of 113 new faculty members in the past year.
