When I was fourteen year old, Iwalked into the local trading

stamp redemption center with greatpurpose and confidence. I was carryingtwenty-eight completely filled books oftrading stamps, the exact number re-quired to purchase what I wanted-abrand-new fishing rod and reel. I proud-ly walked up to the clerk and said, "Hereare twenty-eight books of trading stamps. You can check every page if you'd like:' I

had licked each tamp my elf, and I knewthat thi was the required payment.

Buying the fishing rod and reel withcash was not an option, because I didn'thave enough saved, but I wanted to ac-quire the new pole honestly and justly. Ineeded a good plan. I decided to investmy time saving trading stamps and fillingup the books so that I would be able topurchase what I wanted with them.

Before I walked into that redemptioncenter, the fishing pole belonged to thetrading stamp company. I paid the re-quired price for it, and I joyfully watchedas the clerk retrieved it from the shelf andhanded it to me. Because the requiredprice had been paid in full, that new rodand reel now belonged to me. I boughtit from the trading stamp company. Myplan of redemption had worked.

God also had a plan of redemption, but His was for something much great-er than a fishing rod and reel. His plan

was to purchase mankind back from Sa-tan's power and authority, for at one timemankind legally belonged to Satan. Therequired price was high, for the paymentwas the life of His only begotten Son,Jesus Christ. Once the price was paid, though, it became available for all of man-kind who believed to legally belong toGod. Jesus Christ, man's redeemer, ful-filled God's plan of redemption for all ofmankind.

Let's first look at how mankind cameto be under Satan's rulership. Our lovingheavenly Father originally gave man do-minion over the earth. We can see this inthe first chapter of Genesis.Genesis 1:26:... let them [man] have dominion over thefish of the sea, and over the fowl of theair, and over the cattle, and over all theearth ....

Not only had God given man the do-minion over the earth, He also equipped

Page 5: Way Magazine January&February 2007

man to be able to successfully carry outthis responsibility. God's man was com-plete in every way. He had a body thatGod formed from the dust of the ground.Man also had breath life, making hima living soul. To complete the package,God created spirit in man, giving him themeans by which he could communicatewith God, Who is Spirit.Isaiah 43: 7:Even everyone that is called by my name:for I have created him for my glory, I haveformed him; yea, I have made him.

God formed, made, and created Hisman to be a three-part being of body, soul, and spirit.

Adam and Eve enjoyed wonderful fel-lowship with God, and they were givendominion and authority over the earth. But something changed all that.Genesis 3:1:Now the serpent was more subtil than anybeast of the field which the Lord God hadmade. And he said unto the woman, Yea,hath God said, Ye shall not eat of everytree of the garden?

The adversary's subtle craftinesstricked Eve into not following God'sWord. She eventually enticed Adam tosin. Because of Adam's disobedience toGod's Word, Adam forfeited his authori-ty and dominion. He could have refusedEve'soffer; however, through freedom ofchoice, he took his conferred rights-the rulership, dominion, and authorityover this world-and transferred themto God's archenemy.

In Luke 4, the Devil offered this powerto Jesus.Luke 4:5 and 6:And the devil, taking him (Jesus] up intoan high mountain, shewed unto him allthe kingdoms of the world in a momentof time. And the devil said unto him, All this powerwill I give thee, and the glory of them: forthat is delivered unto me; and to whom-soever I will I give it.

The Devil rightfully declared, "Allthispower will I give thee, and the glory ofthem: for that is delivered unto me ... ,"because that power and glory had beenhanded to him in man's fall due to Adam'sdisobedience to God. Adam lost authori-ty, dominion, and rulership. Both he andEve lost the spirit that God had createdin them, becoming just body-and-soul

God provided

a brilliant plan by which

individuals. They lost their connectionwith God.

After dominion over the earth wastransferred to the adversary, mankindlegally belonged to Satan. We needed tobe redeemed from this captivity.

According to Ephesians 2, all mankindis born into this world dead in trespass-es and sins, having no hope, and withoutGod (verses 1 and 12). Our loving heav-enly Father knew that we would be inthis terrible situation. He provided a bril-liant plan by which mankind could beredeemed from Satan's rulership. JesusChrist was God's plan for redemption.

Before we look at God's plan, let's lookat what redemption means. Redemptionmeans to be released by the payment ofa ransom. The ransom is the requiredprice to bring someone out of captivity. The main idea of redemption is freedomsecured by payment of a price.

Being dead in trespasses and sins, manneeded release from captivity! The pay-ment required to release mankind fromthis state was God's only begotten Son.I Peter 1:18 and 19:Forasmuch as ye know that ye were notredeemed with corruptible things, as silverand gold, from your vain conversation re-ceived by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of alamb without blemish and without spot.

God's plan of redemption included thesacrificial death of Jesus Christ, "a lambwithout blemish and without spot:' Tounderstand the significance of our re-demption by the precious blood of Christ, let's briefly look at some background from

the Old Testament. The blood of animalswas shed to atone for the sins of the chil-dren of Israel. Their sins were coveredwith the sacrifice of an animal, such as ayoung goat or a lamb without blemish.

For example, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest of Israel entered into theHoly of Holies to make sacrifices. He laidhis hands on the goat outside the Templeand then sent it into the wilderness to die.God had said that as surely as the Israel-ites saw the goat go into the wilderness,so certainly their sins went with it. Thisanimal sacrifice covered Israel's sins by ayearly atonement. Other sacrifices and sinofferings were made at different times ac-cording to Old Testament law.

Another example is the sacrifice at thefirst Passover. God had Moses instructthe children of Israel about the sacrifi-ciallamb.Exodus 12:5 and 6:Your lamb shall be without blemish, a maleof the first year: ye shall take it out fromthe sheep, or from the goats:... and the whole assembly of the congrega-tion of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

This lamb was to be without blemish.Jesus Christ met this qualification as thefinal Passover lamb.I Corinthians 5:7:... For even Christ our passover is sacri-ficed for us.

Jesus Christ was the perfect sacrificiallamb-a lamb without blemish, a male ofthe first year, taken out from among thesheep. He was a man from among men,a lamb from the flock. He had the poten-tial to sin, yet he did not; he lived God'sWord perfectly. He was without blemishand without spot.

The animal sacrifices of the Old Tes-tament law were temporary substitutesuntil God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, whowas the complete and final sacrifice for allsin. Jesus Christ sacrificed his life once forall mankind and ended the yearly Pass-over sacrifices referred to in Exodus. Hisdeath was the complete atonement.

John the Baptist recognized that JesusChrist would be that complete atone-ment.John 1:29:The next day John seeth Jesus coming untohim, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God,which taketh away the sin of the world.

In Jesus Christ Our Passover, Dr. Victor

Because (( Adams sin, mankind becamedead in trespasses and sins. It took a per-fect, sinless human being to atone for thatsin a to make it possible for believersto be reconciled to God. It took a perfecthuman sacrifice to be the complete atone-ment for you and for me and for all peopleever since his sacrifice.

God's plan of redemption was withinall legal boundaries, He purchased man-kind back from Satan's captivity honest-Iy and justly. He didn't steal or kidnap usout from the adversary's grip. He paid forour redemption with the precious bloodof His only begotten Son.

Redemption is to be released by thepayment of a ransom. The price that waspaid for our redemption was not withmoney or trading stamps or any othercorruptible item. Only the precious bloodof Jesus Christ would pay the requiredprice for our redemption.I Corinthians 6:19 and 20:... know ye not that ... ye are not yourown? For ye are bought with a price ....

In Jesus Christ Is Not God, Dr. Wierwillewrote:

God accomplished seven things by His Son,Jesus Christ, to bring about our redemp-tion: (1) the birth of Jesus Christ; (2) hissinless life; (3) the death ofJesus Christ onthe cross; (4) his resurrection three days andthree nights later; (5) his ministry follow-ing the resurrection; (6) Christ's ascension;and, finally, (7) the coming of holy spirit onthe day of Pentecost. Had anyone of theseparts not taken place, our lives would notbe totally redeemed.

By his freedom of will, Jesus Christfulfilled God's plan of redemption. Therewas a ransom to be paid, and Jesus Christwas the only one capable of paying it. Hefulfilled the law with his birth, life, death, resurrection, resurrection appearances, and then ascension to the right hand ofGod; and the gift of holy spirit was sentforth on the day of Pentecost. That ran-sam was paid, and this redemption, deliv-erance, liberation, and release from legalownership by the adversary is available

total release from

for all of mankind. That is a powerfulredemption!

Jesus Christ willingly gave himself asa perfect, sinless sacrifice-a perfect re-deemer. By offering himself as the sac-rifice, he fulfilled the required paymentto purchase our freedom. All we have todo is accept it by confessing Jesus as lordand believing in our heart that God raisedhim from the dead (Romans 10:9 and 10).It cost us nothing, because it cost God Hisdearest and best-the life of His only be-gotten Son. Oh, the price He paid for youand for me!

Paying the price entitles the owner tolegal rights. For instance, if I purchasean automobile, then I become the owner.Once I pay the required purchase price, Ireceive the title for that vehicle. The titletate yerr clearl . and in legal terms that

the automobile belongs to me. The previ-ous owner can't come back to me a weekafter I purchase the vehicle and say, "Youknow, I've owned that automobile muchlonger than you have. It really belongs tome. I think I'll drive it back home now:'If he were to try that, I would show himthe title and boldly claim what is right-fully mine. This car now belongs to me. Ipaid for it-it is mine.

Similarly, God has paid the requiredpurchase price for you and me; there-fore, we belong to Him. No longer do welegally belong to our previous owner, forGod has fully paid the price and boughtus back from Satan.

The Epistle of Ephesians, addressed toall those born again of God's spirit andfaithfully living the truth, tells us plainlywhat Jesus Christ has done for us.Ephesians 1:7:In whom [Jesus Christ] we have redemp-

tion through his blood, the forgiveness [re-mission] of sins, according to the riches ofhis grace.

The word translated "redemption" inEphesians 1:7 comes from the root wordIUD in the Greek language. Accordingto Strong's concordance, one definitionof IUDis to loose. This word is used inMark 7:35 as Jesus the redeemer bringsfreedom to a man that was in bondage:And straightway his ears were opened, andthe string of his tongue was loosed [IuD],and he spake plain.

This man had a speech impedimentand couldn't speak plainly. After Jesusministered to the man, the man's tonguewas loosed, and he spoke plainly.

In Acts, chapter 2, we find another oc-currence of this Greek word IUD.It is usedin reference to the resurrection of JesusChrist.Acts 2:24:Whom God hath raised up, having loosed[IUD]the pains of death: because it was notpossible that he should be holden of it.

God loosed the pains of death whenHe raised His Son, Jesus Christ, fromthe dead. That is powerful freedom frombondage!

Ephesians tells us we have redemp-tion through Jesus Christ's blood, the re-mission of sins, according to the richesof God's grace. Jesus Christ's shed blood, meaning the giving of his life, was theransom that loosed us from the adver-sary's grip. We have total release from allcaptivity. At the time of the new birth, our sins are not just covered-our sins arecompletely washed away. We have com-plete remission of all our sins and startour walk in perfect fellowship with ourheavenly Father.

Jesus Christ was the perfect sacrifice. His blood was shed for you and me, andthis precious price was paid to purchaseour freedom. We no longer belong tothe adversary. We are God's children, re-deemed from the corruption and sin ofthis world. We are redeemed from a lifeof destruction, from a life of negatives, frustrations, fears, and defeat.

At one time, mankind legally belongedto Satan. Because of what our wonderfullord and savior accomplished, we no lon-ger live under Satan's rule. This sectionof Romans from The New English Biblegives a vivid summation of what we have

Page 7: Way Magazine January&February 2007

learned about our redemption.Romans 5:12 [The New English Bible]:Mark what follows. It was through one manthat sin entered the world, and throughsin death, and thus death pervaded thewhole human race, inasmuch as all menhave sinned.

The consequences to mankind result-ing from Adam's fall were sin and death.Without a redeemer, mankind would re-main in this despair. But God's graciousplan made His overflowing freedom andrelease available for all of mankind.Romans 5:15 [The New English Bible]:But God's act of grace is out of all pro-portion to Adam's wrongdoing. For if thewrongdoing of that one man brought deathupon so many, its effect is vastly exceededby the grace of God and the gift that cameto so many by the grace of the one man,Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ fulfilled God's brilliantplan to purchase mankind back fromSatan. That is why he is our redeemer. It is God's wonderful grace in giving thelife of His Son that paid the price for our

redemption. Being born again of God'sspirit, we no longer belong to the adver-sary. We belong to God. Our redemptiongives us the right to reign in life, to rule.By what Jesus Christ has accomplished,we have life.Romans 5:17 [The New English Bible]:For if by the wrongdoing of that one mandeath established its reign, through a singlesinner, much more shall those who receive

in far greater measure God's grace, and hisgift of righteousness, live and reign throughthe one man, Jesus Christ.

Paying the required price to purchasea fishing rod and reel was very satisfy-ing to me when I was fourteen years old.How satisfying is it for our heavenly Fa-ther to have purchased us back from theadversary? Our loving Father wanted us,and He paid the ultimate, required priceto redeem us and set us free.

Even though mankind at one time be-longed to Satan, God had a plan to releaseus and make us free. Jesus Christ, man'sredeemer, fulfilled God's plan, makingredemption available for all of mankind.

Jesus Christ willingly gave himself asa perfect, sinless sacrifice-a perfect re-deemer. God bought us back from theadversary's power by paying the requiredprice-the life of His only begotten Son,our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. No lon-ger are we held in Satan's captivity. Nolonger are we dead in trespasses and sins. The result of the work of Jesus Christ islife, because he is man's redeemer. ~

The Word of God has integrity,

and believing it

produces what God promises.

Barbara P. Me Culloeh

The Word of God has integrity! That'sa bold statement. How can I say

that? I can say that the Word of God hasintegrity because I have looked into theWord of God to help me understand thisgreat reality. I have believed it and seenGod's promises come to pass in my life. When we understand and believe that theWord of God has integrity, we are ableto take believing action on it and receiveGod's promises.

I would like to invite you to look intothe Word with me and discover what theWord says about its own integrity. Thenwe will see how believing the integrity ofGod's Word brings the promises of Godto pass. The greatest of God's works isHis Word; and when believed it produceswhat God says.

The Word of God speaks for itself re-garding its integrity. As we look into the

been a hard-pointed instrument. Somebooks were made of soaked palm leaves, and the writing was done with an ironpen. Words written on palm leaves neverfaded nor were eaten by worms.

Another mode of preservation usedduring this time was cutting letters intostone and pouring molten lead into them. The lead poured into the rock preservedthe writing, permitting the words to re-main for a very long time. From theseexamples we see various ways that the in-tegrity of the Word of God may have beenpreserved so that we can be blessed withits accuracy and integrity today.

In II Timothy 3:16 the Word describesitself as the "God-breathed" Word.II Timothy 3:16:All scripture isgiven by inspiration of God,and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteous-ness.

The word "All" refers to all scripture, all without exception, from Genesis 1:1 toRevelation 22:21. The fivewords "givenbyinspiration of God" are actually one wordin the Greek. This word is theopneustos, which literally means "God-breathed:'We see again that God is the Author ofHis Word; it is God-breathed. The fol-lowing verse tells us why God gave thisGod-breathed Word.

AND THE TABLES WERETHE WORK OF GOD, ANDTHE WRITING WAS THE

WRITING OF GOD,GRAVEN UPON THE TABLES.

EXODUS 32: 16

Word to develop an understanding ofintegrity, we will see some occurrenceswhere the Word speaks of itself.

In Exodus 31 the Word declares that itwas "written with the finger of God:'Exodus 31:18:And he gave unto Moses, when he hadmade an end of communing with him uponmount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tablesof stone, written with the finger of God.

In ancient times it , as not unusualfor important truths and events to be en-graved into tablets of stone. The word"testimony" here refers to God's Word. The phrase "with the finger of God" is afigure of speech emphasizing God as theAuthor of His Word.

Looking into the Book of Job we canlearn more about how important wordswere preserved during this time.Job 19:23 and 24:Oh that my words were now written! ohthat they were printed in a book! That they were graven with an iron penand lead in the rock for ever!

Job desired that his words should bepreserved. Iron, lead, and rock are long-lasting substances that were used duringthe time of lob to preserve words, savingthem in a complete and unbroken condi-tion. Words were inscribed with "an ironpen" into books; this iron pen would have

Page 9: Way Magazine January&February 2007

II II Timothy 3:17:

That the man of God may be perfect, thro ugh ly furnished unto all good works.

The first word in II Timothy 3:17 is"That:' indicating purpose. The purposeof the Word of God is that "the man ofGod may be perfect, throughly furnishedunto all good works:' Who is "the man ofGod" in this verse? It's one who speaksfor God. Whenever we speak for God, webecome His spokesperson. God's Wordsays we are equipped to speak for Him;we are throughly equipped unto goodworks. What the Word says we are, weare-because the Word is truthful; it'sGod's Word.

The Word is truth. This is the testi-mony that it gives of itself.Psalms 119:142:Thy righteousness is an everlasting righ-teousness, and thy law is the truth.

"Thy law is the truth" means what itsays. The Word, "thy law:' is truth. He-brews 6:18 states that it is impossible forGod to lie. The words of the Word aresteadfast and upright. They have integ-rity because they are the words of God;they are truth.

Jesus Christ is the living Word. AsGod's Son, Jesus Christ had integrity. Helived by the standard of his Father's Word, which is truth.John 14:6:Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, thetruth, and the life: no man cometh untothe Father, but by me.

Jesus Christ said that he is the way, thetruth, and the life. He provides "the way"to the Father. As the living Word of God,Jesus Christ was "the truth" in everythinghe did or said; he provides the way to "thelife" that is eternal. These three realitiesdenote completeness. What Jesus Christgave as the living Word of God is the wayto the truth and eternal life.

Another quality of integrity that theWord reveals about itself is that it is faith-ful.Psalms 119:138:Thy testimonies that thou hast commandedare righteous and very faithful.

The word "faithful" relates to firmness,to stability, to faithfulness in fulfillingpromises. But God's testimonies are notjust faithful. The Word itself says thatthese testimonies are "very faithful:' Wecan hold fast to the promises of God

!.'

because they are very faithful.Titus 1:9:Holding fast the faithful word as he hathbeen taught, that he may be able by sounddoctrine both to exhort and to convincethe gainsayers.

The Greek word for "faithful" in thisverse means trusty. This adjective meansthe Word can be relied upon; it is depend-able and trustworthy. These are qualitiesof the integrity of God's Word.

Also, the Word is pure, which is an-other quality of its integrity.Psalms 12:6:The words of the Lord are pure words: assilver tried in a furnace of earth, purifiedseven times.

row, rocky paths at night would tie footlamps around the ankle or hold lampsin their hands. They would swing theirlamps in front of themselves to throwlight onto their path so that they couldsee to walk safely. One step at a time, theWord of God gives us spiritual light forour path to move ahead safely. It illumi-nates our steps; it imparts wisdom andguidance. Where the Word is, there islight.

We have seen that God's Word declaresits own integrity. It is God-breathed andcan be trusted as much as God Himself. His Word is true, faithful, pure, and alight for our path.

We will now see that whenever the

We can hold fast to the promises of God

because they are very faithful.

The words of the Word are purewords-as pure as silver which has beenpurged and refined from impurities seventimes. In the Bible, the number seven sig-nifies spiritual perfection. Not only is thisWord pure, but it is spiritually pure!Psalms 119:140:Thy word is very pure: therefore thy ser-vant loveth it.

The word "pure" relates to the processof refining gold and silver to the point ofseparating the pure metal from the drosswhich forms on the surface of moltenmetals. The Word states that it is "verypure"- to the fullest degree. Therefore, the original God-breathed Word is freefrom any impurity.

The pure Word of God gives us lightto guide our path.Psalms 119:105:Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and alight unto my path.

A lamp or lantern gives light to ourpath. The Word states of itself that it is alamp; it gives light to our path. In someparts of the East, men walking over nar-

Word of God is believed, it will producewhat God says. Hebrews 4:12 tells us thatthis Word of God is quick and power-ful:For the word of God is quick, and power-ful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of souland spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and in-tents of the heart.

The Word declares that it is "quick:'which means it is alive and vital; it is also"powerful:' meaning it is energetic. Thisverse also states that God's Word is "adiscerner:' meaning one skilled in judg-ing. Because the Word has this forthrightstandard of integrity, we believe what itsays. When we believe and act on whatit says, we receive the promises in God'sWord. To further examine this truth, let'slook at a practical example from my lifeand then at a record from the Old Tes-tament.

As a young child I had been taught tobelieve the Word of God. I was taught thatGod was with me every step of every day.

The Way Magazine/January-February 2007 9

Page 10: Way Magazine January&February 2007

I knew God's Word had integrity. I wastaught Proverbs 3:5 and 6:Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; andlean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and heshall direct thy paths.

With the believing heart of a child, Iabsolutely knew that God was there todirect each step of the way. God and Ihave been friends as far back as I can re-member. I acknowledged Him every stepof my day.

As I grew, my life moved smoothlyalong paths of believing action. I gradu-ated high school and sailed across theocean to attend the University of Lau-sanne in Switzerland. I returned to theUnited States and graduated college inBoston where I was trained to be a teach-er (kindergarten through eighth grade). Aweek after graduation I was married to mywonderful husband. One week later wewere living on the island of Crete, Greece. My husband resumed his job on the airbase, and as I began to think about whatI would do to fill my days there on the is-land, I talked with God. I knew He wouldtake care of me and that He would directmy paths. I knew I could trust Him-Hehad always supplied all my need (Philip-pians 4:19). He had always been a faith-ful God to me.

Shortly after we had arrived on theisland of Crete, we were listening to air

name was Captain Gabriel. (I love God'ssense of humor!)

Captain Gabriel hired me. He gaveme an assistant to help with the fifty-twofive-year-olds and provided a building forthe kindergarten class, complete with astove to keep us warm during the thirty-five-degree winter. This building was aone-hundred-foot-long World War IIQuonset hut, made in the shape of a halfcylinder, with some child-sized tables andchairs provided. Every step of the way,God faithfully met each challenge with avictory. For example, the frequent huffingand puffing of the old stove enabled ourclass to become the best-practiced five-year-olds in the fine art of fire evacua-tion techniques.

I had the privilege to establish a kin-dergarten class where none had existedbefore. It remained in operation until theair base closed several years ago. I ac-knowledged God, I believed the truth ofGod's promise to supply my need, and Iacted upon that promise. He directed mypath so that I could receive the victory.God's Word has integrity, and believing itbrings the promises of God to pass.

Let'snow look at the record in II KingsofNaaman, a leper and a pagan who hadthe promise of God spoken to him by theProphet Elisha. When Naaman believedwhat Elisha spoke, he was able to receivehealing.

I scheduled aninterview with the captain in charge; his

This record of the healing of Naamanin the Old Testament provides us with anexample of an individual who initially didnot know the true God or His integrity, but who believed and took action uponthe Word to receive his deliverance. Hisbelieving brought about his healing.II Kings 5:1 and 2:Now Naaman, captain of the host of the

king of Syria, was a great man with hismaster, and honourable, because by himthe Lord had given deliverance unto Syria:he was also a mighty man in valour, buthe was a leper. And the Syrians had gone out by compa-nies, and had brought away captive outof the land of Israel a little maid; and shewaited on Naaman's wife.

As the commander of the Syrian army,Naaman was honorable and a mightyman of valor. Naaman's first step in re-ceiving his deliverance began when heacted upon the words spoken by the lit-tle maid.II Kings 5:3 and 4:And she said unto her mistress, WouldGod my lord were with the prophet thatis in Samaria! for he would recover himof his leprosy. And one went in, and told his lord, say-ing, Thus and thus said the maid that isof the land of Israel.

He took action on what the littlemaid said about the Prophet Elisha. Thewords "Would God my lord were with theprophet that is in Samaria! for he wouldrecover him of his leprosy" are a figureof speech. This figure consists of a shortprayer. These words would ultimately in-troduce Naaman to the one true God!II Kings 5:5 and 6:And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, andI will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him tentalents of silver, and six thousand pieces ofgold, and ten changes of raiment. And he brought the letter to the king ofIsrael, saying, Now when this letter is comeunto thee, behold, I have therewith sentNaaman my servant to thee, that thoumayest recover him of his leprosy.

The king of Syria wrote a letter to theking of Israel on Naaman's behalf. Alongwith this letter, Naaman took gifts of sil-ver and gold and ten changes of raimentto the king of Israel. At this time in histo-ry, scarcely any transaction of importancetook place without giving a gift. Naamanfollowed the Eastern custom of carryingcostly and beautiful gifts.II Kings 5:7-9:And it came to pass, when the king of Is-rael had read the letter, that he rent hisclothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and tomake alive, that this man doth send untome to recover a man of his leprosy? where-

Page 11: Way Magazine January&February 2007

fore consider, I pray you, and see how heseeketh a quarrel against me.And it was so, when Elisha the man of Godhad heard that the king of Israel had renthis clothes, that he sent to the king, saying,Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? lethim come now to me, and he shall knowthat there is a prophet in Israel. So Naaman came with his horses and withhis chariot, and stood at the door of thehouse of Elisha.

As was customary Naaman waited atthe outside gate, thinking that the Proph-et Elisha would come out to see him.II Kings 5:10 and 11:And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, say-ing, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, andthou shalt be clean. But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will sure-ly come out to me, and stand, and call onthe name of the Lord his God, and strikehis hand over the place, and recover theleper.

God's prophet, Elisha, spoke wordsfrom God. He sent his messenger out tospeak these words to Naaman. Elisha'ssending a messenger with God's Word in-stead of personally speaking it to Naamanwas perceived as an insult. Being a pagan,Naaman was used to pagan rituals andenchantments. Naamans perception ofwhat he thought should be happeningclouded his focus on the actual words spo-ken to him by Elisha's messenger: wordsof integrity given by God to Elisha.

These words from Elisha had integ-rity; they were pure, they were true, andthey provided guidance to receive God'spromise to be clean. These words wereGod's words with more truth than anypreconceived ideas that Naaman mighthave had. But the direction to "Go andwash in Jordan seven times" took Naa-man by surprise.II Kings 5:12 and 13:Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Da-mascus, better than all the waters of Israel?may I not wash in them, and be clean? Sohe turned and went away in a rage. And his servants came near, and spake untohim, and said, My father, if the prophethad bid thee do some great thing, would-est thou not have done it? how much rath-er then, when he saith to thee, Wash, andbe clean?

Whenever the Word of God is

believed, it will produce what God says.

Naaman did not like what Elisha'smes-senger told him. He had a difficult timebelieving he should wash in the muddyJordan. He knew the Jordan was a muddyriver; he thought he should be washingin the beautiful rivers of Damascus. But

counsel from his servants prompted Naa-man to more carefully reconsider theprophet's words. As he considered andbelieved those words, he arrived anotherstep closer to receiving God's promise andhis deliverance.

Naaman's final step to deliverance isin II Kings 5:14.He listened to the wisecounsel of his servants and acted uponwhat the Prophet Elisha said.II Kings 5:14:Then went he down, and dipped himselfseven times in Jordan, according to the say-ing of the man of God: and his flesh cameagain like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

Naaman went back to the Jordan towash seven times. What was he thinkingeach time he dipped? Was he expecting tosee results each time? Bythe seventh dip,Naaman saw his flesh return to that of alittle child: soft, clean, and pure. Can youimagine how excited and blessed Naa-man must have been when he saw that hewas clean? Naaman humbled himself torespond to the godly instruction he wasgiven. Therefore, he received deliverance, and he was thankful to God.II Kings 5:15:And he returned to the man of God, he andall his company, and came, and stood be-fore him: and he said, Behold, now I knowthat there is no God in all the earth, butin Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, takea blessing of thy servant.

Naaman appeared to no longer bebound by high thoughts of his militaryposition or the rituals of idolatrous prac-

tices he once knew. He was healed! He be-came meek to the one true God. Naamanacknowledged the God of Elisha openlyin front of all of his company.

Dr. Victor Paul Wierwille, our minis-try's Founding President, said: "Healing

is not dependent upon whether or notyou're a Christian, but whether or notyou believe." God's Word is truth; it isquick and powerful. Naaman was movedto action at the words spoken by the littlemaid, by Elisha's messenger, and by hisown servants. Naaman believed and tookaction on the words spoken by Elisha andreceived his deliverance.

The Word of God has integrity, andbelieving it produces what God prom-ises. We can have the confidence to be-lieve and receive from God because weknow that the Word of God is true, it isfaithful, it is pure, and it is a lamp and aguide unto our path-we know the Wordof God has integrity. Taking believingaction upon the Word of God energizesthe power of God; believing the integri-ty of God's Word brings the promises ofGod to pass.

In II Kings 5 the words spoken by theProphet Elisha had integrity. Naamanacted upon those words and believed forhis own healing: he received the result ofthat quick and powerful Word of God.Today we are the ones who act on andbelieve the promises from God. Our Godis the same God Who Healed Naamanthousands of years ago.

Today we have the Word of God writ-ten down for us in a book. What a privi-lege! Let's look into that book and findthe promises we desire. Let'sbelieve themand act upon them to receive what Godsays is available. It's that simple. Why?Because God's Word has integrity! Wecan believe it! ~

to resemble the intended design. Even-tually, the finer detail are culpted. And,at long last, even the mo t minute detailare carefully and deliberately carved fromwhat was once a mas ive pile of snow. Thefinished piece is one they are proud tohow to townspeople and tourists alike.

These artists begin with their finalgoal in mind, and diligently they fashionthis huge, shapeless pile of snow into abeautiful, unique piece of art. Likewise,as artists of our own lives, we can sculptourselves into beautiful believing exam-ples by diligently fashioning our livesaccording to God's Word.

In I Timothy is a verse of scripture thattells young people how to become an ex-ample for others, and in the Old Testa-ment is a record of a young man whogrew to become an example to others. We'll look at both of these to see how wecan grow in shaping our lives with God'sWord.I Timothy 4:12:Let no man despise thy youth; but be [be-

come] thou an example of the believers, inword, in conversation, in charity, in spirit,in faith, in purity.

This verse was written to Timothy todirect him as a young man, which in Bibletimes was until thirty years of age. Todaythis verse still provides great encourage-ment and exhortation to young people onhow to become an example. Additional-ly, all believers can learn from this versewhatever their age, for if God expects ayoung person to be an example, certainlyHe would expect the same, if not more,of those more mature.

The word "be" in this verse means "be-come or come into a particular state orcondition." Becoming an example is agrowing process; it takes time of faith-fully learning and applying God's Word.

"Example" is the Greek word tupos, which in English is the word "type:' Thay-ers Greek-English Lexicon of the NewTestament defines tupos in this verse as"an example to be imitated:' "Be thou anexample of the believers" can be literallytranslated "become thou [youth] a believ-er's example:'

The exhortation ofI Timothy 4:l2listsspecific categories oflife in which a youngperson is to become a believer's example.Let's look briefly at each of these catego-ries: word, conversation, charity, spirit, faith, and purity.

First, "word" refers to the Word of Godwe speak, which proceeds from that Wordthat dwells in our heart. Next, "conver-sation" refers to behavior, conduct, andlife, including the actions that life is madeup of. Then "charity:' the Greek wordagape, means the love of God in the re-newed mind in manifestation. Anotherway agape is defined is "love in its fullestconceivable form ... the distinctive char-acter of the Christian life in relation tothe brethren and to all:'

The next words in this verse are "inspirit:' These can be deleted since theyare not in the majority of critical Greektexts. Then "faith" means believing, or be-lieving action. And, finally, "purity" is thestate of being lustrous, clean, pure fromevery defilement.

Putting these categories together, wesee that youth can faithfully shape theirlives with God's Word to become believ-ers' examples. Their words, thoughts, and

actions in life are to correspond withGod's Word. In relationships, with be-lievers and with all people, young peopleare to become examples in showing forththe love of God, in believing action, andin keeping themselves pure in this world.Believers who are more mature can con-tinue to grow in these areas as well.

With this understanding of I Timo-thy 4:12,let's now see the Old Testamentexample of Daniel as a young man, spe-cifically focusing on how he became abelieving example by faithfully sculptinghis actions according to God's Word ineach of these areas of life.

Daniel was a Iudean believer, and ashe grew up in Judah, he would have beentaught the Old Testament law recordedin the scrolls. When Daniel was a youngman, his country of Judah was besiegedby King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. Asa result, Daniel and other Iudeans weretaken captive to the unbelieving andidolatrous nation of Babylon. There hewas selected along with other able youngmen to be trained for three years to beput in a position to serve the king.

During this training, the king pro-vided food for these young men, butthe meat had been offered in sacrificeto idols, which was contrary to the OldTestament law. Daniel had a decision tomake. Would he eat the meat anyway,or refuse it? He decided to keep himselfpure from this defiled meat.

Daniel approached Melzar, "whomthe prince of the eunuchs had set overDaniel" (Daniel l.Il). He asked Melzarfor "pulse:' or vegetable food, to avoidthe idol-tainted meat. Daniel's words pro-ceeded from the thoughts of the Word

he held in his heart. Melzar agreed tolet Daniel and three other well-knownbelievers, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, try it, and after ten days, they ap-peared healthier than those who hadeaten the king's food. Daniel's love forGod benefited himself and his fellowJudean believers in this three-year train-ing for the king.

Daniel was firmly persuaded in hisbelieving, and he became an example toothers by his behavior. Daniell:9 says thatGod had brought Daniel into favor withthe ruler of the Babylonian eunuchs re-sponsible for training these young men.Let's see what the Bible says about Dan-iel and his three friends at the end of thethree years.Daniel1:l8 and 19:Now at the end of the days that the kinghad said he should bring them in, then theprince of the eunuchs brought them in be-fore Nebuchadnezzar. And the king communed with them; andamong them all was found none like Daniel,Hananiah [Shadrach], Mishael [Meshach],and Azariah [Abednego]: therefore stoodthey before the king.

Daniel 1:21shows that Daniel contin-ued in office, serving with godly authori-ty "unto the first year of king Cyrus:'which would have been about seventymore years. From this first chapter of theBook of Daniel, we see that Daniel didn'tcome upon his position of service in theBabylonian kingdom simply by chance. He lived according to God's Word ad-dressed to his administration, the OldTestament law. He faithfully sculpted hislife according to God's Word.

Though Daniel lived about twenty-fivehundred years ago, his believing exam-ple has left an impression on me. Why?Because of his heart's desire to faithfullymodel his life after God's Word. Youngpeople can faithfully model their livesafter God's Word and become believers'examples as well. And just as diligentlyas the snow sculptors at the McCall Win-ter Carnival fashion those huge piles ofsnow into beautiful snow sculptures, socan each one of us, whether young ormore mature, sculpt our lives into beauti-ful believing examples. In word, behavior, love, believing, and purity, let us becomebelieving examples to others of livingGod's Word in our day and time. ~

God Promises US...

Editor's Note: There are over ninehundred promises in God's Wordand many examples of God's faith-fulness to fulfill His Word. Followingare three promises of God, one fromeach feature article in this issue, alongwith scriptural examples of believerswho claimed and lived those promis-es. Enjoy looking these up and build-ing your understanding and believingto walk out on what God promisesus. You could even search out morerecords and perhaps start an indexof your own!

1. ... redemption through JesusChrist (Ephesians 1:7).

On the day of Pentecost, in responseto Peter's bold declaration of God'spromise of salvation, about threethousand people believed and re-ceived salvation, accepting redemp-tion (Acts 2:1-47).

2.... His Word can be relied upon(Psalms 119:138;Titus 1:9).

God told Gideon He would save Is-rael from the hand of the Midianitesand that He would be with Gideon.Walking out on God's Word, Gide-on claimed that promise and savedIsrael with only three hundred men(Judges 6 and 7).God's Word to Noah was a covenantwith him to save Noah and those inthe ark from the flood. Noah trustedin God'sWord and "prepared an ark tothe savingof his house" (Hebrews11:7;Genesis6:5-9:17).

3.... that a young person can be-come a believer's example(I Timothy 4:12).

As a youth, David behaved him-self wisely and gained great respectamong God's people (I Samuel 17and 18).

Inthe articles in this series, we havebeen considering how the Scripture

interprets itself: in the verse, in the con-text, or used before. Along with keepingthese very important Biblical researchkeys in mind as workmen of the Word,we will now begin to look at the Bibli-cal research principles which pertain toBiblical truths we must adhere to. In thefoundational class on The Way of Abun-dance and Power we learn three Biblicaltruths we must adhere to as workmen ofthe Word:l. Get "to whom" correct-administra-

tions.2. Difficult verse must be understood in

light of the clear verses.3. Interpretation and application are

always with respect to whom it is ad-dressed.We will focus on the first Biblical truth

listed: Get "to whom" correct -admin-istrations. "All scripture is given by in-spiration of God, and is profitable fordoctrine, for reproof, for correction, for[which is] instruction in righteousness"(II Timothy 3:16). But not all of God'sWord is directly addressed to us in thisday and time. Understanding to whom ascripture is written helps us to rightly di-vide God's Word. As part of understand-ing to whom the Word of God is written,a person must accurately recognize theadministrations in the Bible.

In the Bible there are seven admin-istrations' which are periods of time inGod's historical and spiritual timetablegoverned by certain policies and spiritu-

al truths. We must understand that thesepolicies and truths may change in thevarious time periods, so having a knowl-edge of these seven administrations helpsus to resolve apparent contradictions inthe Bible. It also helps us in our under-standing of what part of the Bible is di-rectly addressed to us in our day and timeso that we can put it into application andbenefit from it in our lives.

The first administration, Original Para-dise' started to be put into operation inGenesis 1:3 and ended in Genesis 3:24.Within this administration there werecertain policies and spiritual truths thatpertained to Adam and Eve, such as theirhaving dominion over all the fish of thesea and fowl of the air, as Genesis 1:28says:And God blessed them, and God said untothem, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replen-ish the earth, and subdue it: and have do-minion over the fish of the sea, and overthe fowl of the air, and over every livingthing that moveth upon the earth.

Also in this administration, before thefall of man, there was no sickness, sorrow,or death. After Adam and Eve were driv-en out ofthe garden of Eden, this Origi-nal Paradise Administration ended.Genesis 3:24:So he [God] drove out the man; and heplaced at the east of the garden of EdenCherubims, and a flaming sword whichturned every way, to keep the way of thetree of life.

The second administration, or Patri-archal' began at this time and was the ad-ministration of all the patriarchs, such as

Biblical Truths We Must Adhere To:Get "To Whom" Correct-Administrations

Noah, Abraham, and Isaac. In this Patri-archal Administration believers adheredto unwritten laws and precepts oflife thatwere communicated to them via God'sspirit upon the prophets as wellas throughthe Word written in the stars. This timeperiod lasted until the law of Moses.

The third administration was the LawAdministration, and it began when Moseswent up to Mount Sinai and God gavehim the initial ten commandments.Exodus 24:12:And the Lord said unto Moses, Come upto me into the mount, and be there: andI will give thee tables of stone, and a law,and commandments which I have written;that thou mayest teach them.

These commandments were the basisfor the policies and spiritual truths of theLawAdministration. Later in this admin-istration other revelation was given, suchas is written in Exodus, Leviticus, Num-bers, and Deuteronomy, so that other as-pects of the law were filled out in detail.John the Baptist was the last prophet ofthe LawAdministration, and this admin-istration ended when Jesus Christ beganhis earthly ministry following his bap-tism by John.Luke 3:21 and 22:Now when all the people were baptized, itcame to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,And the Holy Ghost [holy spirit] descend-ed in a bodily shape like a dove upon him,and a voice came from heaven, which said,Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I amwell pleased.

The fourth administration, Christ, orGospel, differs from the Law Adminis-tration in that Jesus Christ was person-ally on earth to keep and fulfill the lawso that preparations could be made forthe fifth administration. In the Gospelperiod, Jesus Christ reduced the approxi-mately nine hundred laws of the Old Tes-tament down to two, and he fulfilled thelaw. This fourth administration ended onthe day of Pentecost.

Page 15: Way Magazine January&February 2007

Today, you and I live in the fifth ad-ministration-the Church, or Grace, Ad-ministration. It began on the day of Pente-cost. The seven Church Epistles (Romansthrough Thessalonians) are specificallyand directly addressed to the Church ofthe Body. These Epistles contain the doc-trine, reproof, and correction that makeup the policies and spiritual truths of thisGrace Administration, which you and Iapply in our lives. This Grace Adminis-tration will end with Christ's return forhis saints, the gathering together.I Thessalonians 4:16 and 17:For the Lord himself shall descend fromheaven with a shout, with the voice of thearchangel, and with the trump of God: andthe dead in Christ shall rise first:Then we which are alive and remain shallbe caught up together with them in theclouds, to meet the Lord in the air: andso shall we ever be with the Lord.

During the sixth administration, Ap-pearing, or Revelation, Christ will comeback to earth with his saints. The Churchof the Body will have been judged for re-wards, and the "great white throne" judg-ment of Revelation 20 will take place forall those except the Church of the Body. The sixth administration will end whenSatan and death are destroyed.I Corinthians 15:26:The last enemy that shall be destroyed isdeath.

BIBLICAL RESEARCH PRINCIPLES

All Scripture interprets itself:

1. In the verse:a. Right where it is written.b. A word or words must be interpreted

according to Biblical usage.c. The words must be in harmony with

the verse as well as with all thescriptures relating to the subject.

d. Scripture build-up; narrativedevelopment.

2. In the context.3. Used before.

Biblical truths we must adhere to asworkmen:

1. Get "to whom" correct-administrations.

This brings us to the seventh and finaladministration. The Original ParadiseAdministration that terminated in Gene-sis 3:24 takes up again in Revelation 21 forthe Final Paradise, or Glory, Administra-tion. There shall be a new heaven and anew earth wherein dwells righteousnessand where once again there will be nomore sickness, no more sorrow, and nomore death.Revelation 21:1 and 4:And I saw a new heaven and a newearth: for the first heaven and the firstearth were passed away; and there wasno more sea.And God shall wipe away all tears fromtheir eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shallthere be any more pain: for the formerthings are passed away.

This administration will be in placefor all eternity, "... and so shall we everbe with the Lord:' What a joy to realizeand anticipate this great reality.

A right dividing of God's Word in-cludes understanding to whom scriptureis addressed in light of the seven admin-istrations. For an example of scripturewritten during the Law Administration,we can go to Deuteronomy.Deuteronomy 28:15:But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt nothearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God,to observe to do all his commandmentsand his statutes which I command theethis day; that all these curses shall comeupon thee, and overtake thee.

This verse is part of the Old Testa-ment law and is therefore addressed tothe Judeans, to Israel living in the LawAdministration. In the remaining versesof Deuteronomy 28, we see the conse-quences of not hearkening to the com-mandments and statutes of God. In theLaw Administration Israel was directedto observe to do all the law.

Let's look at a verse regarding the lawthat was written during our present Ad-ministration of Grace.Galatians 3:13:Christ hath redeemed us from the curse ofthe law, being made a curse for us: for it

is written, Cursed is everyone that hang-eth on a tree.

Galatians is written to the born-againbelievers living in the Grace Administra-tion. This verse is addressed to us todayand states that we are redeemed or boughtback from the curse of the law.The con-sequences of Deuteronomy 28 writtenduring the Law Administration shall notcome upon us or overtake us living inthe Grace Administration, because ouradministration operates under changedpolicies and spiritual truths. Certainlythis is a comforting reality. By knowingwho is being addressed and in what ad-ministration, we recognize there is nocontradiction in God's Word betweenDeuteronomy 28:15 and Galatians 3:13.

Is there learning available to us fromthe scriptures in other administrations?Yes,most certainly; but the Word of Godwe are to hearken to in particular is theWord that is addressed directly to us. Aspart of understanding to whom the Wordof God is written, we see that we must ac-curately recognize the administrations. This allows us to avoid thinking errone-ously, such as, that we too are under thecurse of the law.

In Biblical research there are Bibli-cal truths we must adhere to, and oneof these important truths is to get "towhom" the Word is addressed correct inlight of administrations. Apparent con-tradictions and error can be avoided byrightly dividing under which administra-tion a scripture is addressed.II Timothy 2:15:Study to shew thyself approved unto God, aworkman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

To be approved as a workman of theWord we need to rightly divide the scrip-tures. When we look to see to whom aparticular scripture is addressed, we mustalso see which administration governsthe policies or spiritual truths. We havethe privilege to properly apply the appro-priate Biblical truths we must adhere toin our research of God's Word. As we do,we will accurately unlock the treasures oftruth in God's matchless Word.

From the New Students

"What blessed me about the Ad-vanced Class? I'd have to mention thegreat meals, the beauty of the landscape, the organization of the entire class, andthe love of the people. However, whatblessed me the most was the teaching ofthe Word. The Advanced Class boostedmy confidence in my walk with God andgave me an even greater desire to serve. The riches and depth of God's magnifi-cent Word are fathomless. THE RENEWED MIND: THE KEY TO POWER

On November 24-26,2006, overeight hundred Advanced Class

graduates gathered at The Way Interna-tional Headquarters to build their un-derstanding of the renewed mind at Ad-vanced Class Special 2006.

These serious Biblical students trav-eled in from forty-two states and the Dis-trict of Columbia in the United Statesand from twelve International Outreachcountries to attend the Special, hostedby the Board of Directors. Upon theirarrival, the students received a welcomeletter from Rev.Rosalie F.Rivenbark, thePresident of The Way International, ex-pressing her believing expectations forthem: "May this November AdvancedClass Special be a power-packed time ofrenewed growth, commitment, and bless-ing for you:'

The students joyfully focused on thetheme "The Renewed Mind: The Key toPower:' These disciples shared a hungerto learn more about the practical aspectsof the renewed mind, and their expecta-tions were met abundantly. One partici-pant shares, "The teachings have beenwonderful in their practicality, impress-ing upon us the importance ofloving theWord, holding it in mind, and acting ac-cordingly:' Another comments, "It was agood time! The purity of the Word andthe love with which it was presented hashelped me improve the quality of mythinking. I came to the event with meek-ness to receive, and I received more thanI anticipated. The testimony to this will

be the change in the quality of my life:'On Friday evening, after the guests

had registered, the weekend took offwiththe opening Household Session in theVictor Paul Wierwille Prevailing WordAuditorium. A Word-filled Way Produc-tions concert opened the event, followedby a teaching from Rev. Steve Longley, who answered the question, why renewthe mind? From the Scriptures, studentssaw that renewing the mind is man's onlylogical response out of thankfulness toGod for all He has done to bless His peo-ple and supply their every need.

The powerful teachings continued onSaturday and Sunday, morning and eve-ning, as Rev. Tom Mullins, Rev. HarvePlatig, Rev. Joe Coulter, and Mrs. DavidChavoustie, Patsy, joined Rev.Longley tofurther expound on the renewed mind.Rev.Mullins coordinates the Mid-AmericaRegion, and Rev. Platig coordinates theOhio Valley Region. Rev. Longley andRev. Coulter serve on the President'sCabinet at Headquarters, and Mrs. Cha-voustie serves in the Way PublicationsDepartment at Headquarters.

Some of the topics covered were essen-tial how-tos of the renewed mind, waysto enlarge and strengthen the mind, howto manifest our release from mental pris-ons, the benefits of the renewed mind, keys to help overcome concerns aboutthe future, fiveactivities to help us renewthe mind and eliminate pressure, the re-newed mind and health, the renewedmind at home, renewed-mind relation-

ships, and the renewed mind in light ofjobs and our finances.

Rev. Rivenbark shares about the Spe-cial, "We took slices of life that our peo-ple are involved in and painted a picturefrom the Word of how it could be accord-ing to the Word in those areas oflife. Aseach teacher taught, people got a beauti-ful image of what renewed-mind livingis all about:'

Advanced Class Special 2006 not onlyprovided a time to receive invaluableteaching, it also included sweet fellow-ship-breaking bread together and shar-ing the Word with one another. Guestswere invited by the Board of Directors toattend two special meals: a dinner or sup-per on Saturday and a dinner or supperon Sunday in the Outreach Services Cen-ter Dining Room. During these meals, they enjoyed fellowship with one anotheras well as a sharing by a Director.

These disciplesalso met in "sharepairs"on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Forthese times they received assignments tolook up occurrences of specific words inthe Book of Proverbs relating to the re-newed mind, utilizing a Youngs AnalyticalConcordance to the Bible. They also dis-cussed practical aspects of the renewedmind with each other.

One couple shares the impact of this:"The afternoon share pairs were exhila-rating. We want to continue working theuses of 'heart; 'mouth; 'lips; and 'tongue'from the Book of Proverbs. One particu-lar verse that really blessed our group was

Page 19: Way Magazine January&February 2007

Proverbs 18:21: 'Death and life are in thepower of the tongue: and they that loveit shall eat the fruit thereof.' We thoughthow Jesus Christ loved the power of thespoken Word, and it brought life to allthose that heard his words. How his heartrejoiced when he sawthe fruit manifestedin people's lives. We can walk in his stepsand bring deliverance to many and enjoythe fruit thereof:'

On Sunday afternoon, internationalparticipants gathered to view a histori-cal video in the Founders Hall Resourc-es Room. The video demonstrated therenewed-mind believing it took to buildour ministry from the start.

The closing Household Session includ-ed a time of sharing with the Board ofDi-rectors and premiered a video slide show,"Camp Gunnison-The Way HouseholdRanch: Reaching New Heights, SettingNew Sights in 2007-2008:' This presen-tation, narrated by Rev.Rivenbark, showsthe breathtaking beauty and some of thehistory of the Gunnison Valleyand CampGunnison-The Way Household Ranch. The video then unfolds the exciting an-nouncement of new golden opportuni-ties at the camp for classes, special events, leadership conferences, and vacations forthe 2007-2008 ministry year.

Roger Mittler, Vice President, Min-ister of Facilities, shared that believers ofall ages would enjoy the many and var-ied activities available-hiking, fishing, golfing, and shopping, to name a few-but best of all would be the opportunityto soak in the riches of God's Word andthe beautiful and peaceful surroundingsof The Way Household Ranch.

Next, Rev. John Rupp, Vice Presi-dent, Minister of U.S.A. Operations, announced the ordination of two menas ministers in the household of TheWay-Rev. Dan Davis, who coordinatesthe North Atlantic Region with his wife,Dee, and Rev. Gary Livedalen, who co-ordinates the Blue Ridge Region with hiswife, Valerie. Rev. CAMP GUNNISON CELEBRATES ITS THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY!

On October 19, 2006, Camp Gunni-son- The Way Household Ranch

celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. Rev.Rosalie F. Rivenbark, President of TheWay International, enjoyed this moun-taintop anniversary at Camp Gunnison.Rev. Vince McFadden, Vice President,Minister of Camp Gunnison-The WayHousehold Ranch, and his wife, Brenda, hosted Rev. Rivenbark as she visited theStaff and in-residence Way Corps.

How did The Way International ac-quire such an outstanding locationdesigned for learning, healing, andgrowth?

During the thirty-fourth anniversaryof The Way International, Dr. and Mrs.Victor Paul Wierwille were on an itin-erary and were believing to find a camparea for The Way Ministry. They had spe-cific criteria for the camp. It needed to bewest of the Mississippi River and seclud-ed from larger cities to provide an atmo-sphere of rest and tranquility. It would bea place conducive to sharing God's bestto bless people.

The Wierwilles received the desire oftheir hearts on October 19, 1976, whenThe Way International acquired the sce-nic 105.l-acre property, then known as"Sleepy Hollow:' At the time, this campconsisted of a meadow with a few cabinsand the wraparound beauty of the RockyMountains.

When Dr. Wierwille announced theacquisition of the camp, he shared, "Thisis some of the most beautiful territoryin the state of Colorado with a fabulousview of the mountains. It should proveto be a 'mountaintop experience' for WayFamily Camps and other ministry func-tions. I am excited about the possibili-ties!"

On July 17, 1977, Camp Gunnison wasofficially dedicated to the glory of Godand the outreach of His Word. Since thattime Camp Gunnison has hosted WayFamily Camps, Sunday Teaching Servic-- Region and State meetings, and otherecial events. It has also served as a vital

training location for The Way Corps.Over the years, the facilities at Camp

Gunnison have expanded, including theaddition of multiple log cabins built forhousing, teaching, dining, recreation, and more. In 1983 the ministry acquiredadditional acreage with two houses anda barn, bringing the total area of CampGunnison- The Way Household Ranchto over 140 acres.

One of the largest buildings at CampGunnison is The Gunnison triplex, a9,400-square-foot facility completed in1982to provide housing for The Way Corpsin residence and other guests. The camp'slargest structure-and one of the largestwhole-log structures in the state of Colo-rado-is The Household Commons. This30,000-square-foot building was com-pleted in 1988 and houses many aspectsof The Way Corps training. It contains a

250-seat auditorium, a library, a book-store, meeting rooms, and guest housing. This beautiful and unique facility also hasan observation mezzanine upstairs forlooking out over the surrounding terri-tory and inspiring mountain views.

At the dedication of Camp Gunnisonin 1977, Dr. Wierwille expressed the pur-pose of this location, which continuestoday:

"We're a Biblical research and teachingministry; and that, by God's mercy andgrace, we're going to continue to be. Andthat's what this place is also going to con-tinue to represent-a Biblical research andteaching location that will bless God's peo-ple who want to hear God's Word."

Happy Thirtieth Anniversary, CampGunnison!

"To walk as Iesus Chrisl walked, wemust think as Jesus Christ thought. Wehave the ability to do the works of JesusChrist when we carry his vision for theworld in our minds, in our hearts, in ourmotivalions, and in our actions. Becauseit is Christ in us, the hope of glory, we'reable to walk in his steps and stand inhis stead. We can do all things throughChrist who strengthens us:'

October 8, 2006-STS #2313Walking in the Steps of Jesus Christ:Lookingfor the Coming MessiahRev. Steve Longley

"The hope of Christ's return givesus endurance. It gives us that capacityto continue to stand faithfully on God'sWord, to continue with our work of be-lieving and our labor of love. We lookforward with great enthusiasm to the sec-ond coming of Christ when he gathersthe believers together, and this gives us atremendous capacity to endure:'

October 15, 2006-STS #2314Walking in the Steps of Jesus Christ:The Birth of Jesus ChristRev. John Linder

"By going to the Word of God andstudying about Jesus Christ's birth, wecan backtrack to the beginning of his'trail: We get to see where his steps start-ed. Learning about Jesus Christ's begin-ning helps us put his life into context, and it sets the stage for his future life andministry, It helps us see more clearly thedirection his life would take so that wecan follow him:'

October 22, 2006-STS #2315Walking in the Steps of Jesus Christ:Joseph and Mary-Believing ParentsMrs. Jean-Yves De Lisle

"Mary was a doer of the Word as a dis-

ciple and as a parent. She was not only awonderful helpmeet to her husband, Jo-seph, but also a believing partner withhim in raising Jesus, as well as their otherchildren, according to God's Word:'

Rev. lean-Yves De Lisle

"Joseph performed the role of a fatherin raising God's Son, and he was com-mitted with his wife, Mary, to raise Jesusaccording to the Word that he knew andlived. These qualities of obedience andcommitment to God and His Word thatJoseph developed in his life continue toimpact the world to this day"

October 29, 2006-STS #2316Walking in the Steps of Jesus Christ:Jesus Christ's ChildhoodMrs. Lou Guigou

"Jesus' parents provided him withliving examples of God's Word and thebest education in the Scriplures that theycould give him. And Jesus diligently ap-plied himself to the Scriptures, gainingwisdom and strength, day by day, as hegently but aptly grew to an understand-ing of Who his Father was and of who hewas as God's only begotten Son:'

Mr. Lou Guigou

"To answer his call as the Messiah,Jesus Christ needed to be taught, and be-cause he had faithful teachers-his par-ents and instructors in the law-duringthese precious childhood years, Jesusgrew, becoming strong, being filled withwisdom from God's Word, realizing thathe was to be about his heavenly Father'sbusiness. As a result, he would impact aworld that was spiritually upside downby turning it right side up:'

November 5, 2006-STS #2317Walking in the Steps of Jesus Christ:The Purpose of the Four GospelsRev. David Chavous tie

"Each of the four Gospels was given toholy men of God by revelation. In the OldTestament, the prophets wrote of a com-ing 'Branch' who would have four char-acteristics. He would be a Icing, a servant,a man, and the Son of God. Now, whileevery Gospel encompasses all of thesecharacteristics of Iesus Christ, each Gos-pel specifically emphasizes one of them. And this is a major reason why four Gos-pels were necessary-to fully reveal thegreatness of Jesus Christ's life and min-istry:'

November 12, 2006-STS #2318Walking in the Steps of Jesus Christ:This Is My Beloved SonMr. Aaron Hampton

"When the pressure was on, JesusChrist didn't rely on his ability, any sec-ular knowledge, or the philosophies ofmen. He relied on only one thing-'Itis written: This is also our blueprint forsuccess, We want to walk in the steps ofJesus Christ and please God as he did.We can do this as we build the Word ofGod deep into our hearts and minds andspeak it forth with believing:'

November 19, 2006-STS #2319Walking in the Steps of Jesus Christ:We Have Found the MessiahMrs. Laura Lombardi

"From the first days of his ministry,Jesus Christ was redeeming the time, speaking the Word to individuals, wit-nessing, giving, blessing, serving, andmanifesting power. Right in the early daysof his ministry he was leaving us steps towalk in. We can speak the Word to indi-viduals, and we can team up with oth-ers; and by combining our long suits, wecan move the Word together with them.We too can redeem the time, manifest-ing God's power and leading people tobelieve on the Lord Jesus Christ."

CLEAR PATHCHARTED

Dear Board of Directors:Thank you for the believing and love

put into the new Foundational Class. Ithink the verse that most accurately re-flects my thoughts on the class as a wholeis Psalms 16:11: "Thou wilt shew me thepath of life: in thy presence is fulness ofjoy; at thy right hand there are pleasuresfor evermore:'

The class, with outstanding clarity andfocused simplicity, presents foundation-al principles from the Word of God thatare understandable and applicable. Thereis a clear path of life charted for all whochoose to believe. Iam excited for everyperson the class will reach, knowing thedeliverance they will experience in theirlives.

GRATEFUL FOR THELOVING LABOR

Dear Board of Directors:The Foundational Class brought great

joy to my heart and tears to my eyes! It isa magnificent presentation of truth thatwill bless the ministry for many years. The heart and tenderness with which it ispresented complements the clear founda-tional truths in each session. When theycomplete the class, people will know whothey are and what they have in Christ, and how to rightly divide the Word ofGod.

Having several teachers sure adds va-riety to the class, and each teacher waswell-suited for the sessions they taught. Each session stuck to the foundationaltopics and flowed logically from pointto point so that it was very easy to fol-low and understand. I am very grateful

for the loving labor put forth by everyoneinvolved to make this class.

M.S.University Place, Washington, US.A.

A SPIRITUAL SUCCESS

Dear Rev. Rivenbark:We want to extend our thanks for the

opportunity to participate in the newFoundational Class. Our thanks also ex-tend to the Staff and to the teachers, whodid an exemplary job not only impartingthe accuracy of God's Word but their ownsouls also.

We were impressed with the simplicity, clarity, and boldness with which this classis presented. We thrilled to hear some ofthe classic principles, illustrations, andquotes from Power for Abundant Livingcoupled with additional truths that have

been incorporated into the FoundationalClass over the years.

The three- teacher format added va-riety and freshness. The illustrationsand incidents were well constructed andheartfully shared. The class is very easy tobe entreated and has an overall tender-ness. It reminds us of the statement inRomans 2:4, that it is the goodness ofGod that leads to repentance. The classradiates the goodness of God and invitespeople to consider God's Word and thusHis will.

This new class will be a blessing tothose with hungry hearts seeking toknow God and His Word, as well as afurther blessing to faithful followers ofThe Way. Our love and thanks again toall who contributed to making this classa spiritual success.
