My Fellow Elks,

February will be a very busy month. Kicking off with the Mid-Winter Elks

Conference in Appleton (February 3rd – 5th), Super Bowl Party (February 5th), State

Hoop Shoot and State Presidents Night with Mardi Gras Party (February 11th), 248

RAFFLE PARTY (February 19th), and last but not least Dinner and a Show with come-

dian Jack Willhite (February 25th). We still have a couple of Team Trivia nights in

there as well as a Family Night and a Soup, Soup, and more Soup.

There is still time to sign up for State President’s Dinner and Wausau Lodge

Awards ceremony where I recognize and pay tribute to those that have stepped and

gone the extra mile to not help our lodge but especially the community. It’s a great

opportunity for all members of our lodge to meet the State President and First Lady

and show them how the Wausau Elks Lodge members show their support and their commitment to Elks and

the community. All members and guests are welcome to attend any of the events.

As this lodge year is winding down, I want to thank everyone for the support and patience you have

given me and the officers, as well as our families. There have been so many great experiences this year that I

will cherish forever. Thank you so much!

I am once again asking that every member of our lodge to please reach out and sponsor a new member.

Sponsor a friend, neighbor, co-worker, family member, or acquaintance. Give them the same opportunity that

your sponsor did for you and then be their mentor and show them all of the great things that Elks do. Our

membership is what gives us the opportunity to provide for community and develop long lasting friendships

and bonds with each other. The Elk Family will stand with each and every one of us in our lowest and trying

times, as well as celebrate good news and achievements that we have accomplished.

I look forward to seeing you soon. “Bring a Friend”, I’d love to meet them as well.

Sincerely,

Exalted Ruler

By this time, it is certainly no secret that our club is struggling to not only remain solvent, but also to play a vibrant role in our lodge. To that end, both our officers and members have organized activities intended to draw people to use the lodge. For example, if you have not attended a Steak and Swing night, you have missed a good time. If you are not interested in the steak part, no problem. There is no admission for the dance portion of the evening. Beat that price. While I am no ballroom dancer, I sure enjoy watching those who are. February 11 brings activities virtually all day long. First, we once again host the State Hoop Shoot. That evening, State President Rob Radig visits our lodge and a Mardi Gras dance takes place as well. February 19 brings an extremely important event, our 248 Raffle Party. The party organizers have accumulated a staggering array of raffle items, and of course there is the chance to win $2480 and the lodge has a chance to raise a great deal of money. We even have planned a comedy night and dinner on February 25. Of course, we have our regular Friday night fare. Come join us for one of these events. While fun events are crucial, having a vibrant lodge means having vibrant members. To paraphrase the Marshfield Clinic, we don’t want to just run a lodge, we want it to shine.

PLEASE Carry and use your door card. We are a private club so our building is

available only to our members. New members receive one key card when they pay their

initial dues and you can buy additional cards for only $6.00.

Please carry and use your cards. Please carry and use your cards. Please carry and use your cards. Please carry and use your cards. Yes, you can push the button on the call box and someone on the staff can open the door for you, but on many nights and Fridays so many members buzz the door that the staff

cannot do what they are really here for. If you have lost your card or it no longer works,

please contact the Secretary.

Parking Reminder Please remember that we need to respect our downtown neighbors. DO NOT PARK in the

Associated Bank & Marathon Savings Bank lots until after business hours, 6 PM on weekdays and Fridays. After hours they allow us the use of their lots but they need their spaces for their staff and their customers while they are open.

U.S. CONSTITUTION CONTEST Could a graduating high school senior in your family use an extra $600 or more for college expenses next year? The Wausau Elks Lodge is sponsoring the Annual U.S. Constitution Contest again this year. This involves taking a one-hour written exam on the U.S. Constitution. The test will be given in the Lodge Room at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Three high school seniors from the Wausau area will divide $1,200 and the winner will advance to the State competition with a chance to win up to $2,900 additional. Lodge Lore After climbing the stairs or leaving the elevator on the Lodge Room floor of our building, you are greeted by about one hundred photos of the PER’s of our Lodge. Unfortunately we are missing the photos of nine, but efforts are being made with the Wausau Historical Society to find photos of them. If you should know where any might be located please inform an Officer. You will note that when a PER passes away the frame of their photo is repainted black. Many of the leaders of our Lodge have been important in other areas of the community, state, and nation. 1892-94 E.B. NEWS OUT OF THE GUTTERS: Bowling Stuff

SUPPORT THOSE WHO SUPPORT US II Last month I identified those donors who made it possible for us to upgrade our bowling machines. This month I’d like to give credit to the advertisers who enable us to have bowling score sheets. Those sheets are not free so please make a mental note of the advertisers and patronize them whenever possible. Those businesses who sponsor our score sheets are as follows: Young’s Drug Store, Dave Framke (excavating services) Wausau Awards & Engraving, Baeseman’s Shoe and Clothier, Classic Cleaners, River House Architects, Riverside Specialties, CW Auto Clinic, Kustom Karpet Kleaners, Inc. (not the KKK), Roto-Graphic Printing, Carmelo’s Italian Restaurant, Midwest Amusements, Paper Trail Printing, Coral Lanes Pro Shop (not a competitor, a friendly compatriot), The Boller Group. There are two sets of score sheets. One set is for league bowlers and should NOT be used for open or group bowling. The area with the bowler’s names and handicap is separated by perforations. Just fold the sheet along that line to break the perforations to separate the sections instead of cutting with a knife. The other set of score sheets are narrower and should be used for open and group bowling.

Bob Dustrude, Ace Sports Reporter “So great he’s jealous of himself”

It’s not the lanes, it’s not the ball. I just suck.
