Classroom Counseling Lessons • Grades K through 5th will receive a lesson each month based

on the needs of the students and the AACo. Essential Counseling Curriculum Small Group Counseling (Lunch Bunch) • Small groups will be held during lunch and recess periods once a week for 6 to 8 weeks • Small group topics will be based on the needs of the students and input from teachers and parents

(Topics include…anger management, study skills, divorce, family related issues, social skills, friendship, etc.)

• Small groups will begin in October • Parents may contact Mrs. Patterson directly to refer their child for a group

• Purpose is to bring positive male role models into the building to

provide security and support.

(Dads, stepdads, uncles, granddads, male guardians, etc…)

• Assignment is to volunteer at least one day or even part of a day

to perform tasks such as:

– monitoring the school entrance

– assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars

– monitoring the lunch room

– most importantly helping in the classroom with the teacher’s

guidance by working with small groups on homework,

flashcards, and spelling to name a few

– All absences require a parent

note within three days of

returning to school.

– After 3 consecutive absences, a

doctor’s note is required.

– A ½ day absence occurs 2

hours before dismissal and 2

hours after dismissal.

• Counting and Cardinality

– Count to 100 by ones and by tens—not just beginning at 1.

– Write numbers from 0 to 20.

• Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of

no objects).

– Understand that when counting a set, the last number represents the total

number of the objects in the set.

– Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things

• given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.

– Greater than, less than, or equal to (objects in two groups)

– Compare two numbers between 1 and 10 presented as written numerals.

• Operations & Algebraic Thinking

– Represent addition and subtraction with a variety of

objects (fingers, objects, drawings, etc).

– Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add

and subtract within 10.

– For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes

10 when added to the given number.

– Fluently add and subtract within 5.

What will they learn?

Math

• Number and Operations in Base Ten

– Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and

some further ones.

• Measurement & Data

– Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight.

– Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in

common.

• For example, directly compare the heights of two children and describe one child

as taller/shorter.

What will they learn?

Geometry

• Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and

describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above,

below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.

• Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.

Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles,

hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres).

• Identify shapes as two-dimensional (lying in a plane, “flat”) or three-

dimensional (“solid”).

• Analyze, compare, create, and compose shape
