Waterworks Operator Training Newsletter February 2015 Good afternoon! Attached is the February 2015 Operator Training Newsletter for all MSDH-BPWS Regions and following this message are the trainings for your particular region. If you have questions about the counties in your MSDH region, please see the map on the third page of the attachment to this e-mail. Also, remember to please contact the training agency to make sure the training will be held. The information contained in this document was gathered from the MSDH-BPWS Training Calendar, so we have no information about if a particular training may be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. A recent update to the Java programs on many computers have caused some difficulty logging into the water operator CEU database created by MSU Extension Service. There is an easy fix for the Java issue listed below (steps 3 through 8). I am also including complete directions for logging into the database for those who are unfamiliar with the process. Please feel free to access this database at any time to check on your CEU hours. This database only records water operator CEU hours. Wastewater hours are not recorded in this database. If you have been able to log into the database in the past and you are familiar with the process, you may only need to perform steps 3 – 8. If you have never logged into the database from the computer you want to use, please complete ALL steps. Also, please keep in mind if you are logging in using a new computer (or a different computer than usual) you may need to follow all the steps. 1. Make sure you have the most updated version of the Java program that helps run the database. Go to the website https://java.com/en/download/ 2. Click the red “Free Java Download” button. Follow the directions to download, run, or update this program on your computer. 3. Once Java is finished installing, go to Start in the bottom left of your computer screen--> All Programs --> Java -- > Configure Java 4. Once the Java control panel is open, click the “Advanced” tab at the top of the window. 5. Scroll down the list and find the “Advanced Security Settings” section. 6. Check the box for “Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format” (see screenshot below).

Good afternoon!

Go to the website https://java.com/en/download/

2. Click the red “Free Java Download” button. Follow the directions to download, run, or update this program on your computer.

3. Once Java is finished installing, go to Start in the bottom left of your computer screen--> All Programs --> Java --> Configure Java

4. Once the Java control panel is open, click the “Advanced” tab at the top of the window. 5. Scroll down the list and find the “Advanced Security Settings” section. 6. Check the box for “Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format” (see screenshot below).

Page 2: Waterworks Operator Training Newsletter - February 2015...14. In the top right of the screen, type in your entire certificate number in the “Search for this Cert #” blank. Example:

7. Click the “Apply” button. 8. Click the “OK” button. 9. Please make sure you are using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to access the internet. Please do not use

Internet Explorer. I strongly recommend using Mozilla Firefox. If you do not have Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome on your computer, please download one of them from the following websites: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ or https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/.

10. Close out any open Java programs on the computer, and use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to go to the msucares.com/water website. Once the msucares.com/water website is up, click on the blue “Database” link on the right of the screen. A new pop-up window should appear. If no new window appears, there may be a yellow bar that appears at the top of the website that you can click and allow pop-ups from this website.

11. If the pop-up window appears, but it is blank, don’t hesitate to call me. This may happen if you are using Google Chrome. There is usually a lock icon or a puzzle piece icon at the top of the pop-up window that you can click and activate the program to run the database.

12. If the window is gray and says Please enter your pin number, type the word water in the blank and click Log In. 13. This should bring you to a menu with two choices. Select “View Operator Info by Certification #” 14. In the top right of the screen, type in your entire certificate number in the “Search for this Cert #”

blank. Example: B01111. Please remember that any 0’s are zeros and NOT the letter o. Once you’ve typed your cert number, hit enter.

15. Your contact information should fill in the blanks. 16. To view your hours, click on the white and blue >> button next to the current certification term in the bottom

left of the screen. You’ll see your hours come up on the right, along with a sentence that says “You need _____ hours. These may be either reg or non-reg hours.”

Because each person’s computer is different, it may take some trial and error to access the database. If you are having any trouble, or any of these instructions are unclear, please call me at 662-325-6807. Thank each of you for your hard work and dedication.
