WHAT
Engineering Competition, Sr. Design
Design and build a working prototype-Must perform required tasks (marks for each task)
Present and demo your solution the very next morning
Have fun

WHAT
Engineering Competition, Sr. Design
6 hours -Design -Build
4 partners-teamwork-trust your partner-greatest asset
Parts, scraps, and wires-inventory list-shop rules-respect
Mad engineering skills-engineers, aren’t we?-sleep-food
2 hours -Present -Demo

HOW
Engineering Competition, Sr. Design
Gather information:-problem description-inventory list-model pictures-ask questions-establish requirements
DESIGNConceptualize:
-brainstorm-use blackboard-input from team-no wrong ideas, only better ones-simple is better

HOW
Engineering Competition, Sr. Design
Build:-divide and conquer-get materials-put it together-don’t be afraid to change-document everything
DEVELOP
Check everything:-test prototype-document all steps (pictures)-maximize points-don’t change-do not get discouraged by others

Slideshow
Engineering Competition, Sr. Design
Time limit for presentation
PresentationBalance between theoretical background, personal opinion, and design process.
Question and answers – be concise. Don’t annoy others, they won’t annoy you
Have fun

Note
Engineering Competition, Sr. Design
Be goal oriented. Goal is maximize points. Need to make a tough decision? Go with what gets you the most points.
Be prepared to work for EIGHT hours.Staying awake is tough near the end. Most amount of work also gets done near the end. Be prepared.
Sign up for testing time slot early. Plan.
Get materials before they run out. Plan.

Techie Notes
Engineering Competition, Sr. Design
Naman [email protected]
Wire multiple battery packs in parallel – last longerWire battery packs in series – deliver more juice
Rubber bands on tires – more grip
Learn how to put together a tire assembly so the wheel is not connected to the motor shaft directly (i.e. use a differential)
Learn how to wire switches – Make car go forward and back using the same switch
Climbing ‘mountains’ – momentum is your friend. Almost impossible to do otherwise.
