7 steps to starting a society
at your university
Step 1: Get in touch with us so we can provide you with more information about
WaterHarvest and so you know this is a charity that you would like to commit to.
Step 2: You will need to the approval of your Student Union to start t a society so before
approaching them, you need a solid plan. Using information from our website and your
personal reasons for starting a society, write a mission statemen, design an organisational
structure and devise a plan of action.
Step 3: Recruit people that are like minded; find out how many people you need before you
can apply to your Union, and start spreading the word. University is full of students that will
be interested in starting something like this, so you don’t have to stick just to the people
you know! Make sure you have everyone’s names, student ID nus and signatures.
Step 4: Choose a bunch of your members to take on responsibilities that will fit your
constitution. as part of your society’s committee. Depending on the structure of your
constitution, you could assign roles through a nomination and election process, or take the
lead and assign them yourself, with the knowledge of different peoples’ skill sets.
Step 5: You are now ready to apply to the Student Union; all the best with your application,
and prepare for an interview if there is one.
Step 6: Get a stall at the fresher’s fair
Step 7: Carry on the hard work and start your WaterHarvest legacy at your university!

Laxmi, now confidently goes to school, the market,
visits relatives and plays with her fellow mates any
time she wants, even during those days in a month
which are supposed to be forbidden for her in a
small rural under developed place like place
Bhakoomba village. Menstruation among grown up
girls and women here is not only a taboo but also a
difficult time for them. It becomes a question of
their dignity, secrecy and comfort ability. Before
Laxmi met Rashmi Ji, a social worker, she did not
know how to dispose of her sanitary pads. Rashmi
offered her individual consultancy. It was during this
session Laxmi realized the necessity and frequency
to change the pad during effective days. Now she
understands the risk and diseases it can lead to.
Earlier she used to wait for the evening to throw the
used pads somewhere little far from home so that
no other person could see her. She never
considered the aftermath effect of water
contamination. Rashmi explained her proper way of
disposing it. She now not only changes sanitary pad
in every 8 hours, but also properly disposes it.
